That is a beautiful site. I've got a question for those of you that have majored in "dirt". Where does the sand go? One of our local tracks that is now closed brought in a ton of sand and other dirts and it seemed to last for a month and then it just went away. Does it mix with the other soil and thin out? Seems like at some point, you would have enough brought in to be more of a permanent fix.
It doesn't go anywhere around here. It's just endless whoops and blown out turns. But when it rains it gets grippy. We have to truck in clay to build jumps.

Just booked my campsite and and my new truck bed tent should be here next week. I was only at Southwick once and that was in 1998 and it rained a lot from what I remember. I hope the weather is good there this year, but if not, I'm still going! As of now it's looking like a solo trip, but hoping that changes. 4.5 hours is a long, lonely drive

Just blew beer out my nose after reading this! Great line and I agree! Always love the Southwick race regardless.

Wait until Ione MX takes the place of Hangtown next year.

Should be epic with the sand track they have.

The series is lacking a good variety of surface and dirt types IMO which gives different riders a chance to shine in the type of dirt/terrain they grew up riding in or are better at. Just another variable. I know I looked forward to sandy tracks and mud didn't worrry me as much cause of the track I grewup racing on

Most of the sand at Southwick has washed into the swamp to the left of the starting gate over the years,It started being noticeable in the late 90's ,the track started its downward spiral then, they started adding soil now and then but it was crappy dirt and clay, the track should be awesome with all this new sand,I might go to the open practice this Sunday,I haven't ridden the track since 2015.

Lol. For a moment I thought you meant call herlings because he knows where the sand went (not that I agree with that view on Herlings).

Straight men care if their yard isn't perfect?

No amount of sand can help our Orygun clay. After a year, its right back to its hard packed slickness. The devil made our dirt.

I always thought they should add a really deep sand track on the circuit, but I don't know of one in the US. Are there any deep sand tracks that could hold a national? I think watching riders tear up the sand is one of the coolest things.

It was a awesome day of riding today at Southwick, the new sand really helped out the sections of the track where it was added. I'm completely worn out. lol I rode three 15 minute motos, one 30 minute moto and one rainy forty minute moto, At the end of the day there were only a few of us out on the track.

Here is a photo of the same section of the track that Dedi posted but taken from the top of the hill.

Funny, you were pulling off today after the finish jump, vet class, I saw the name on your jersey went by on your left.
Good time today, I love that place, I did my last session at 1230 and it was getting gnarly....

I left after my 1230 session too. There were too many people crashing and I didn't want to be one of them. I saw some good get offs.

The track was just getting good then,I didn't even ride my first moto until the 11:30 session, I hate Southwick when its smooth,I always get wicked arm pump but when its rough I hardly ever get arm pump.

Damn... finally, someone actually paid attention.

Rumor has it that Hangtown might've held their last national.

I'll just leave this right here -
