Seems silly to me that Suzuki would invite all the media to ride a bike that isn't production. Of course a works bike is better than a production bike. 18 is everything and more, but it seems to me Suzuki is trying to hype up something.

Maybe they are going to offer a factory edition and this is it?

It's called marketing, no better strategy then to make sure there is hype sorrounding a new product that a lot of hard work was put into.

Its too bad Suzuki doesn't just offer a FE version like KTM. I would pay extra to get one, plus it probably wouldn't hurt the JGR guys to get one either!

Will the swing arm be the same on the production? That's trick.

5 minutes after the release of the 18, KTM will release the 18.5 KTM FE and 10 minutes after that the 19 FE.

Laughing

Real talk though, I wonder just how far ahead these guys go. Are there blueprints of a 2020 model already somewhere in their building? I imagine they test things multiple years before they release it to the public.

After watching that video, it seems to me that is the production bike. Maybe a few extra stickers, but everything I can see on it looks production. Where KTM has the 'Factory EdItion' it appears Suzuki has the 'Works special', or whatever WS stands for.

Curious to see how this plays out.

WS..."Works special" have been used on all Suzuki japan factory bikes for many many years.

It´s nothing unique just for this bike.

The production bike will look as a normal production bike usually do.

And no...Suzuki will not sell this "WS-bike" as an "factory editon" bike.

There is a main event moto podcast with Keefer and he was testing exhausts for the 2018 and I am pretty sure he said lighter, spring fork and same handling.

I'm assuming the embargo on writing about the bikes coincides with that "around three weeks away"?

I still don't get the point of riding those 'factory' bikes unless they have some relatively significant connection to the production variants.

its pretty simple, its a production bike with bolt-ons. BFRC suspension would be cool though; the GSXR-1000 gets it stock (as does the ZX-10R).

This is what I was told. Sometimes the press dept. would change a date for one reason or another, but this was from a very recent discussion with the guy who would know, so I'm thinking this afternoon.

That new 18 Suzuki better be close to that works bike or I would say this whole circus is an epic fail.

The ONLY reason to have the media ride those "factory" bikes would be if they had a VERY close connection to the '18 production bikes. My guess, with zero insider information, is Suzuki is going to try and shake things up a bit. They need to do something.
