Glen Helen carnage...

A ton of carnage today. What else did I miss?

Cunningham - down hard, injured?
Jmart - 1st lap slide off track, 1st to last
McAdoo - down hard, injured?
Plessinger - down hard, got back up
Forkner - seized bike
Savatgy - seized bike?
Hill - seized bike?
Tomac - front brake repeat
Grant - crash 2nd moto?
Craig - broken hand/knuckle/wrist?
Webb - what happened, did the blue pig have a seizure?
Decotis - what happened moto 2?

Impressive rides of the day:
Colt Nichols
Justin Hoeft
Christian Craig until he crashed
Anderson
Jmart
Tomac - rear brake only
Izzi - finished another 2 motos, good for him

Mechanicals aside, maybe the tracks are getting too difficult....ease off the "prep to be rough" a little.

I think that the 2nd moto from Ferrandis was very impressive... Kind of expected him to fade towards the end, but he kept pluggin away. Good stuff Smile

I'd really like to see a national this year that wasn't ripped all the way round. A proper hardpack track so we can see some block passes/squaring up etc. I know it's been discussed before but that'd be awesome to see it switched up!

I thought the track was awesome, ( except coming into the grandstand bleacher area where it was only one line ) maybe the riders should've slowed down a little bit. My 89-year-old mother texted me and said it was the best track she's ever seen. She watched the entire broadcast including the commercials.

Does Jody still design?

I thought track was pretty awesome. Yeah let's trade this out for a hard pack dusty track. Makes sense.

I agree it looked awesome. From a watching on TV perspective, Glen Helen is my favorite track of the year hands down. I'm sure the dudes who have to race it don't feel the same way lol

For the record i wasn't on about changing Glen Helen, I'd meant to quote rutsmash. I thought Glen Helen was awesome. Prep was good for the surface and the new layout was way better than previous years from a viewing perspective!

THAT sounds painfu! Craig was obviously hurting after the fall, holding his wrist/hand.

Shout out to Mark Worth out of AZ for his 18-18 finishes as a full privateer. Very respectable finishes for his first set of motos on the season and with a privateer bike set up. Solid effort.

How long will that side line him for? Man he was killing it
That's hard to say I would guess, because its not a body part that gets a lot of blood flow needed for the healing process. I think it also depends on which knuckle and where on the hand - meaning, can he ride through the pain? It's why I'm a big advocate for the Fox gloves with carbon fiber protection on the knuckles.

Glen Helen doesn't need to be prepped to be rough. I just is. I though the track looked good and mostly kept it's character and while the sand section got rutted rest of the track stayed pretty decent.

Hey Pop, have you worn / raced in these? If so, how did you like them? Haven't seen them before but love the idea, if they're good for moto, I'll grab a pair!

Yes I have, love them! I started using them when I took a really bad cactus needle about 1" directly into my knuckles (between the knuckles) when ripping through the AZ desert. They are all my son and I will ride with now. Go get a pair, you will like them a lot.

Edit - we also wear them on the MX track too, not just for desert.

Yes, Jody still designs the track and Karl Scanlon and crew do the maintenance. I think it was a really good track and a really good race. Hated to see a few guys have some unlucky breaks (CC, Joey, Oldenburg, Martin, Eli and Grant) but loved seeing Colt Nichols and Michael Mosiman up there in both motos, Anderson and Ferrandis' exceptional second motos, Marvin getting a win and just a whole bunch of spectators filling up the place and having a good time on a very pleasant SoCal day...

Sweet, thanks! Two races ago literally came out of the first turn with a cut up left hand / knuckle area just from banging off other bikes, no crash or anything, just rubbing and racing! Not a fan of the minimalist gloves in tight quarters!

I thought the racing was awesome , and it really got the standings all mixed up , which will make for a great season.

Weird thing on the weather. In the 70's down at GH yesterday , and up here we rode all day in the mid 90's. 3 weeks ago we were still 55 and raining. Instant summer! It came late.....but yeah , it's here!

Great racing! The mechanical's are unfortunate. Our local tracks (mostly deep sand) will drag ,smooth out the deep ruts and one line berms and.leave the braking bumps alone, makes for better, safer racing.
