That's good, because I had about six pros tell me someone was going to ruin their wheels and themselves as badly as the landing was built...lack of landing was the wording actually.

Izzi jumped it almost every lap. Obviously tv didn't catch it.
Dude has nothing else to lose & everything to gain. I'm not shocked.

Did anyone time how much faster it was to jump it last year? I bet that it wasn't that much because of the amount of time the riders were in the air.

The track crew definitely tried to get someone to jump it. They basically scraped and prepped the corner before it just about every time bikes were off the track. They even removed the rollers from the section before so they could come into the corner faster. Also re shaped the lip about 3 different times throughout the day. Kinda sucked not seeing anyone hit it all day but if not one guy tried it Saturday they're must have been a good reason not to hit it.

Go to a freestyle competition if you want to see big jumps. I think big jumps (read stupid jumps) are one of the reasons motocross is declining locally and GNCC type racing is growing. Don't get me wrong jumping stuff is fun and one of the thrills of mx, but only if there is a margin for error built in.

Really? I find that hard to believe but cool if true. Tomac said it was really deep and before it and it was really steep that...

Tomac said it was really deep and before it and it was really steep that you wouldn't go far enough to clear it.
face palm if you believed him

Yeah if Grant couldnt pull it, you know the other 79 riders were like F that

jumps are just too big.. 100-120 ft should be the max distance for a jump..

Yeah looked like the corner was closer then it was then last year too. Honestly the angle of the face was to steep, guys were scrubbing it hard all day. We stood near there most of the day.

I would think that the track crew could have fixed whatever was keeping the riders from jumping it. Does anyone know what was going on?

Yep, this and that the corner before wasn't prepped suitable for jumping it.
I heard Jason Anderson in the pits say corner before was the issue.

99.9% of the time someone gets carted off, it's not because of air.

Jumps like that shouldn't make up the entire section between two turns, because the time you lose going wide in the turn before (and maybe even after) and extra air time won't be made up by faster speed for such a short distance over the jump. Any jump that is difficult to clear (regardless of size) should be followed by a straight or uphill section. This way there is a clear advantage in momentum for the next section from clearing the jump, forcing riders wide to clear it and thus creating a passing opportunity.

A good example of this is the uphill double at Spring Creek, followed by that long uphill. It's a slow enough double to where landing short won't kill you, but you'll lose a few mph through the whole uphill.

Big jumps that get wedged into a short section never work.

99,9% LOL Was last weekend the first race you watched?

Not sure if that jump leading into the right hander was there last year but it lowered the approach speed into the right hander before the 150.

100% of the time it's not because of air, it's just the sudden impact with an immovable object after getting air.

If Josh Grant is not cool with it, you bet there are some others who are shitting themselves. How is that good for racing?
Exactly what I thought too. If JG isn't sending it, Nobody is going to.

Well thats a choice right?...depends on what they want to accomplish. Either way, they could have found a test rider.

I've heard quite a few locals hit it when it's open, but the way they prepped the corner and take-off for the national...it just didn't workout.
This.

The reason why is they built the landing up taller and the take off sent you to high and not far enough.

I watch local guys jump that thing just about every weekend when the take off and landing are right.

Especially when FLY puts together a huge hospitality tent by the fly 150 and no one jumps it.

That's what I was thinking, that was the most expensive premium ticket option they had, $450 for that one I believe. I'd be pissed, lol!

It was fine until the national this year, local guys jump it all the time. They just really screwed up the prep this year, the corner before it was badly overwatered and the face was wrong (per ET). As others have mentioned, they tried to fix it, but too little, too late.

That's the risk you run when you build a do or die jump and prep your track for slot car racing. It just showed how unnecessary it was. No one jumped it and it added nothing to the show. TBH I thought the old section through there with 2 jumps was better and rewarded skill over bravery. Baggett hipping in to the hillside to stay out of the bumps was next level stuff.
