It's quite obvious to me that goggle lenses should be made out of transparent aluminum .... like I seen on star trek.
On a more serious note, those 450's can roost out some lethal projectile. Doesn't surprise me the least bit to hear of an injury like Anderson's.

this happened to me once at glen helen. I had a hairline fracture to my orbital. lens blew completely out of the frame. shit gets real out there. safety gear does not prevent you from an injury always, but can lesson the damage.

2 summers ago I was heavily roosted (again)in a race. I was wearing my dragon goggles that my wife had bought me for Christmas, and a decent sized rock hit the corner of the frame straight on and NOTHING HAPPENED. It was loud as hell but the goggle held. So there's that.

Uhhhh he said a track marker hit his eye. So wouldn't it have to puncture the goggles? I knew it was either dragon or spy.

It was a rock that got thrown up on the start straight and his goggles started filling with blood so he tried to ride off the track to get to the astars med team and Deano tagged his back wheel and they went down collecting Barcia. He just left his bike laying there and ran to the medics.

Why did he say it was a track marker? Was this on the broadcast? I must have missed it.
He tweeted and it was on his instagram between the motos. Not sure where the track marker rumor came from.

Litpro IG has a great post about it. The goggles took a 12g impact and he had a tiny cut with no damage to his eye. I'd say they did their job. If anything, this should make you realize how important good goggles are and make you consider a brand with a higher level lens. But it's easier to just make assumptions and swear off a product? And this is coming from someone with a goggle sponsor other than Dragon.

The Dragon's are ANSI Z87 Impact rated. Are the Oakleys?

And, again, nothing "hit" his eye.

Yes, I believe the Oakleys are as well.

Dragon lenses are legit. If he had on 100% (which i like), it could have been much worse

Weege or Langston is where they speculated about a track marker. They mentioned it during the broadcast.

In the 70s, on back to back weekends, I had a rock smash into a pair of Carrera and Scott goggles knocking them out of the frame. I got away with minor cuts. I was very lucky.

And there are still people that laugh at us who buys Oakley Airbrakes, Dragon NFX etc.

I'v always said it. You can't get a second pair of eyes. Imagine that exact scenario but with a pair of goggles that has the traditional thin lexan lens.

Dragons higher priced goggles are avaliable with the same lense that the air brakes come with. Not sure if JA was using that lense. Shit happens. I'll keep wearing dragon.

Don't wear seat belts, kids. This one time, someone would have died if they had one on.

I was waiting for this topic to come up actually, as I had a similar incident in 2015. I was riding practice and a rider in front of me kicked up a rock, I'm not exactly sure how big it was since it all happened so fast, but needless to say, the rock struck my goggles lens and split open my eyebrow. I was wearing a set of Dragon MDX goggles at the time which makes JA's incident way too similar. I ended up getting 4 stitches late that night.. after getting home, removing my bandage and seeing it was still bleeding pretty good. Watching blood pool up in your goggle is definitely not the most enjoyable thing to have happen haha.
Oh, and needless to say, I will not wear a set of Dragon goggles anymore..
I had this happen as well in 2006. Same four stiches and everything. I was not wearing dragon goggles and when something like this happens it does not matter what you are wearing. It hits with such force the plastic pushed past the foam and hits the skin with force. I have never had a pair of Dragon goggles but I think people are being a little unfair because this would have happened no mater what goggle you have. I was wearing Scott goggles when this happened. I was a Scott sponsored rider with the best stuff they made back then.

Well said. I use the same criteria when selecting goggles. after seeing what happened to Anderson I sold my bike and quit riding.
