Hi this is Steve Matthes with Motorcross Action

Any particular reason why that was considered "humerous" by "most?" Some sort of back story?
I ask because, on the surface, it comes across as a juvenile stunt that lacks any modicum of professionalism. The class clown antics were old back in Jr. High school, and they are pathetic for a 40 something "professional" journalist at a formal press conference.
What industry would be okay with that...?

Everyone always says "My name is XXX, with YYY media outlet" like that will somehow change a riders answer or give more credibility to the question. To me, he was just making fun of that by proving it means absolutely nothing because anyone can claim affiliation with any media outlet. Would a rider give Steve a better answer if he said MXA instead of Pulp MX? No. It's just name dropping in a room of people who already know who you work for.

Please tell me you are really not this uptight..........

And I'm now blocked from MXA on Twitter (not sure when that happened) so I guess this means I'm fired.
Keep up the God work buddy, everyone in Manitoba is rooting for you!
I thought it was funny, people are too serious.

The back story is that MXA has, in the past, never quoted a source on any breaking story and many times that info was from Matthes and MXA would act like it was their inside info

Weird mood? That's the reasoning?
Good thing the powers that be had the forethought to appoint YOU resident "lighten it up" person if things got "serious" or "weird."
Everything on the line for the Championship, 3 points separating the two challengers, 2 races left....
Too serious!!! Time for ME to take the stage and let MY amazing wit shine!!!

I think some people are taking it way too serious. It's a press conference that airs on youtube the day after a race. Lighten up.

Holy shit. I'm sure the people who are mad about this got mad when Gronk interrupted the White House press conference as well. Why so serious?

No, we do that because they ask us before the press conference starts to do that.

There is nothing "professional" about the sport. Even with imports there are less than 10 guys that can stay on the lead lap in either series. The "permanent" outdoor national tracks don't even have bathroom facilities. Lighten up and laugh. Life is to short.

It has been proven that there are no real "permanent" outdoor national tracks. Maybe that's part of the issue, maybe not. Some of the new tracks they have tried that had nice facilities and amenities have totally sucked. Miller Motorsports Park for example. There is only so much money to invest and extort in and from a facility in exchange for a race. The MXGP at the drag strip ring a bell? Qatar?

Agree 100%. Im good with pissing in the woods and standing in the rain/sun on a hillside for 8hrs but some of these tracks have been on the circuit for 20-30 years. In this disposable society I call that permanent. The "professionalism" of the fan experience needs some attention was my point. Don't want to derail the original topic. Carry on and laugh people.

Glad he did. Taking a risk to be a little funny occasionally doesn't make someone unprofessional.
Just don't abuse it and look like a clown...

Didn't Nash (caller on pulp mx show) go to the one when the series went to East Rutherford, asked a question and presented himself as being from the Wallstreet Journal or something similar?

A couple of people in this thread need to stop taking small things like this in life so seriously. I was at a vintage mx race this past weekend with a pretty big +70 class. I'm sure a lot of people think they should be acting their age, sitting in a recliner on a Sunday afternoon watching golf. But these guys were out racing their dirt bikes, banging bars, and taking chances most people their age wouldn't because it's who they are. I think that's awesome and I think Steve being himself, cracking jokes and making some people laugh regardless of his age is awesome, too.
