Yup, minus the gold chains but listening to him on the phone it sounds just like its 1980.
My god, you have all lost your marbles.
And thats OK. Most don't.
Step back and ask yourself this. What are Rockstar and Monster selling?
Please post your answer and we will see if you understand marketing.
Here is a cool story. My wife and I were sitting in a sushi place in Vegas and we see Tyler in a suit standing out front waiting for someone. Next to him was two vegas hostesses tending a door. He appears to ask them for the time or something and they were rude and just ignored him hard. Just then a family of about 8 came running up stoked as can be to see top ten premier class motocross racer Tyler Evans and he signed thier autographs and took pictures with them and other fans joined too. People were pumped. Those two hostesses clearly felt dumb and were trying to figure out who this guy was now. It was pretty cool. I never liked the tough guy role they marketed with that or wwf but he raced hard and I live for that.
One race sticks out where he was jumping a crazy triple section at Daytona first and every lap that most of the top guys never jumped.
Just saying, Roczen either has no style or whoever told him to pick his suit clearly has no clue of style either.
But yah, he was a fan favorite, always cool with fans and kids. Nobody today has the balls to do what he did. Not even close.
That said, Evans was fast on a bike. It kind of galled me that we wrote him some fairly hefty checks during the years of our various WWR privateer support programs and I don't remember him ever expressing a hint of gratitude...in fact he was the most ungrateful dickhead rider I've ever dealt with. One of the ways we helped cover our programs was to auction off top rider's gear on Ebay and some of it went for insane amounts back in that time, 2004-2008. Our auctions seemed to go for more than others, no doubt because the buyers knew 100% of the money was going directly to help the privateers. Our record amounts were $4800 for the jersey RC wore to win Hangtown on a Honda after missing Supercross and $5200 for one of Bubba's, I can't remember which one. There were some big spenders in South Africa, Australia and Europe at that time.
Ricky, James, Kevin and Chad were very helpful in donating jerseys right off their backs after races, but a lot of times they'd make whoever was waiting for it sit there and wait. Power-tripping and control issues, I think. Chad and James were pretty notorious, from what I would hear. I rarely dealt with it, because I already had to deal with riders primadonna attitudes as a journalist and have zero patience for that shit. Anyway, one of the times I did go to pick one up was from Evans, whose entry fee we had paid for a few years (along with any other privateer making the night show). On several occasions, he had also pocketed the thousand bucks we gave to the first privateer each week. He had finished his usual 12th or whatever and he left me sitting there for 45 minutes while he "got his head straight" after the fucking race. The arrogance and lack of respect by some of the riders still pisses me off. It's amazing how it changes when they realize that no one wants to talk to them anymore and they really aren't as cool as they thought they were.
Oh, and we only got $115 for that jersey I waited an hour for...
GOLD!

BTW, are you coming out to NJ this year? We've missed each other at the north east rounds each of the last 3 years. I have no plans at the moment of driving down but that was before we had a tie in points. I might just make the trip.
Honestly though all jokes aside Evans was one of those guys that could run top 5 for 75% of the main on privateer equipment from what I remember. He was giving factory guys fits there for a while. Too bad his ego completely took him over. He absolutely hauled on 125s too.
Did I question if our programs were efficiently distributing our limited resources? Yes, I did, especially when I'd walk past him sitting in first class as I boarded a plane. But Tyler was a big boy and could spend his money anyway he chose to...from the sound of it in the Matthes call, he wishes he could get back some of the dollar bills he tossed around.
I'm glad I could make you a Tyler Evans fan, Huck. Is Arkansas still a state?
