Tim Hart passed away today at 67 years of age. Tim was a SoCal legend and a true pioneer of the sport. He dominated the ultra competitive SoCal night racing scene for years and anyone who saw him rail a berm on one of Mike's Maicos, wearing his trademark orange Bell Star with white cross hatching, could never forget it. He will be missed.

First MX guy I ever saw in Dirt Bike magazine racing with a full face helmet.

Any word on cause of death?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Tim was living in Torrance (Ca.) back in his prime. My fathers business (custom cabinets which I worked for, and now own) did some cabinet jobs for a general contractor by the name of Tim Hart of Torrance, in the 80's.
Always wondered if that was the same Tim Hart I so admired. Now that my curiosity is burning, I have to do some internet searching to confirm this possibility.

My Tim Hart display took on a new meaning today. RIP legend. Ironically the Moates and Mosier surround the display. RIP Legends. Take care of each other.

Rest In Peace Tim Hart.
1978, I was a B level racer and was practicing on a track I made at Gorman ( big up hills & really roughtrack)
I was putting in my 30 minutes and on top of one hills there was a guy just sitting there watching me he was on an
IT 175 Yamaha I didn't think anything of it and kept going. The next lap I came up the hill he was gone.
There was a 180 degree turn on the track and boom he was on my ass! No biggie I'll pickup my pace
Well either this guy was haulin ass or I was tired. I did two more laps and pulled off never getting away from this guy.
I'm sitting on my tailgate drinking water and he pulls up and I say hey you are hauling the mail buddy
He says he hadn't ridden in forever. Then he said I'm Tim nice to meet you. We talked for a little bit he told me he was a cabinet maker. When he rode away I read Hart on the back of his old Yamaha jersey. Then it clicked who I just shared the track with.
God speed Tim, thank you for taking the time to chat with me.

Jimmie it was a sudden Heart attack. And yes was a contractor after racing and still lived in Torrance.

Tim was my neighbor two doors down for 35 years. I moved from Torrance to Tustin CA. 16 months ago. I'm saddened by the news and just found out about it here. His last dirt bike was a mid nineties kawasaki KX 250. He told me about all the race stories of his and his one overall win outdoors. I knew he had some health issues but last I saw him he looked good. Im shocked by the news of his passing! Tim was a good dude.

Tim did work with wood and I think he did cabinets for a while. Used to see him working on wood stuff in his garage all the time years ago. Tim lived in Torrance near PCH and Crenshaw for decades. Pretty sure he's the one you're thinking of.

It is the same Tim...he was a custom cabinet maker. He was a great guy...will be missed!
