I think he's back just enough in the points that if he can keep this up, we will have a 3 rider dog fight for the last round or 2. That would be awesome no matter which one wins it.

Any truth to Bradshaw purposely tanking the last round in 92? JMB said in a podcast that he tried to stay behind him because he didn't want Stanton to win the championship but Bradshaw was going so slow in the main he had no choice but to pass him.

Of course you know that was 1990 when Bradshaw and the Chicken were getting into it, not '92.

Definitely happened in '92 as well.

But yeah, Tomac is not completely unlike Bradshaw from that yeah in terms of results. So far it's mostly been win or lose by a mile. That's why Bradshaw lost the title that year, aside from his final round meltdown in LA.

What I heard was that if he won the championship he was locked in with Yamaha at a set price for the following year, as they didn't want him taking the #1 plate to another manufacturer. So if he tanked the series he could re-sign for any amount ($400K a record high) with any manufacturer (Yamaha again).

I'm a fan of Tomac Dungey and Musquin. I'll be happy with any of them winning. Musquin seems like the longest shot at this point, but that's mostly because he has fewer wins than Tomac.

Agreed. I'm a fan of all three as well. It does the sport good to have more than one winner...more than one rider who can win at any given race. Hey...I'd like to see RD take one more, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if Eli or Marvin did the deal either...although, like you, I don't see Musquin being strong enough all the way through.

I just want Eli to finish the season healthy! Let the cards fall where they may with the title....but just get to the outdoors healthy and ready to go! This damned SX sure does take a toll on these dudes.

I'd say so right now, he worked all the GP riders last summer for four motos in a row and is clearly the best guy in SX right now.

This goes down to the wire, we all win! That was a heck of a year, right down to the last round. Definitely an example of how consistency played a role in that '92 Championship.

Little lunch break exercise. These are finishing positions from that year. JMB, of course, was in there too.

Stanton: 3,4,3,2,4,5,1,2,1,2,2,7,2,4,2,1 - 3 wins

Bradshaw: 4,1,1,1,1,1,2,6,19,4,1,1,9,1,1,5 - 9 wins

Bayle: 6,3,2,3,3,2,3,1,2,1,7,4,1,2,9,4 - 3 wins

Final points:
Stanton: 331
Bradshaw: 328
Bayle: 320

Sorry for the off topic guys but how about Bradshaw in 1990 at only 17 years old, winning the first 4(pretty sure) races of that year in sx. I just always found that incredible!

I disagree with Eli or Roczen being the FMOTP. Fast doesn't mean squat if you can't keep it on two wheels successfully and consistently enough to win the championship. It only means that you were the fastest on the track...that day, on that track.

Never heard that story...interesting. The published news on that was that he had a knee injury, from the outdoors. Race was in the fall.

Loved how wide the tracks were back then...plenty of room to rail outside lines and cut inside.

In 1990 Bradshaw won the first and second races, was leading the third at San Diego when he crashed and fractured a bone in his ankle/foot. He came back and won 3 more races that season.

The LA race was postponed several weeks because of the LA Riots in 92, putting the Red Bud National in between. Bradshaw was on a roll having won 2 SX in a row and 2 nationals (Mt Morris/Hangtown also in between San Jose and LA rounds). Bradshaw crashed at Redbud and hurt his knee, the next week was the LA SX. Who knows what would have happened if the race wasn't postponed?

Ok, what makes a guy the FMOTP to you? I mean...explain it so it makes perfect sense to you, and to everybody else.
2/24/2017 4:47pm
thinking he made more than 400k.

Just his Yamaha contract was 400K a year which at the time was the highest ever, now its nothing compared to Guys like RC,VP,K roc, Tomac etc etc .
