It was different, no long flow, no long rythym sections, slow....just different.

Yep total embarrassment for field and dirt works. I've seen fair tracks with more passing opportunites.

Not a good track for racing which is what we want but it damn sure was difficult. Hard for me to keep criticizing the tracks because I can't come up with anything better. Last years were worse i.m.o.

Why is it necessary to design new tracks all the time? Like most things in life, the desire to be different for the sake of being different = a step back. Use a good known layout every year.

Severely one lined and with all the 90 degree turns it was go inside then fade to the outside. Hardly any good passing spots too, had to pretty much pass in the whoops. Sucked IMO!

I created a thread a few weeks back asking that very question. A few thought it was a good idea. It seems like most people want new track designs because that's the way it's always been done. I think once they find a good design, they should just make small improvements as necessary for safety, consistency, etc. I would love to be able to see the same Phoenix track as we had this year. I think it would be great for fans and teams to know what to expect and give each track a lasting identity.

16 rounds of the same track design? Sorry, I can't get on board with that. SX racing is already boring enough without any lack of passing. Having the same track design round after round is not a good idea. Because this track was awful doesn't mean we need the same track designs at every round. I really like the dragons back section. That was about the only good thing. The rest of the track was just pathetic. You would think after all these decades of making SX tracks that the designers have a good idea on good vs bad track layouts. Put this one in the bad pile and never use it again. Anywhere.

Noooo!

The second half of your post I completely agree with.

I was suggesting that once we have a good track like Phoenix/Glendale, let's keep that same design for next years Phoenix race. Not every round. Sheesh.

Especially with the new format, I think evolution of the tracks could allow them to fix some of the issues we've been seeing with them breaking down so badly.

Okay so just keep same good design for that particular stadium? I can agree with that. I thought you meant keep same design for every round. My bad.

Exactly. Evolve the tracks that work instead of starting from scratch all the time.

I don't know, maybe the track builders, promoters, teams and riders can put together a committee to address this.

Just think how great it is to bench race and talk about the different outdoor tracks over the years because there is some consistency and history.

I think its safe to say that Feld and Dirt wurx have a lot to learn.

I also think now is a better time than ever for the riders as a whole to come forward and voice their opinions, especially as their safety, careers, and health are at jeopardy.

Its apparent that the track designers, and whomever decided to go to timed events (IDIOTS!) did not take all factors into consideration. For the timed races we are adding a considerable amount of laps. For instance, if a 450 main is now 26 laps instead of a decades long proven formula of 20 laps, you just added 132 more times the entire track is going to be hammered by two wheels. Thats an entire heat/semi race added, then add in the longer 250 main.

These tracks are not being designed with the additional abuse in mind. Both in terms of base (how many bare spots has there been so far? dont forget about the 2x4 in oakland either), and damage to the face of jumps, whoops, and the turns. We've all seen rutted jump faces, one lined whoops, and deep ruts in turns before, but this year its becoming obvious that the tracks cant handle this abuse.

Minneapolis was quite possibly one of the dumbest track designs Ive ever seen. Both from a racers viewpoint, and a fan's view point. Cooper web got hurt, justin bogle got hurt, there was a near miss on Eli tomac, alex martin got hurt, Colt Nicholes and Alix got hurt, list goes on and on.

Feld/FIM/dirt wurx/AMA are failing on multiple levels. They can't possibly think they have been doing a good job.

That was no doubt the worst track layout since the 90's. I guess my question would be who designs this mess ?

There's a few more upcoming layouts close to this level of terrible design as well...

Tracks could always use more width. Also, left right, or right left, create follow the leader.

Last nights track sucked in my opinion. Maybe the track builders should not even bother with hauling a "little" dirt in the stadium. They could just try doing a plywood and concrete track to mix it up a little. It would also help the teams and riders to get some good base settings for all the other races..

Who's fantastic idea was it to put a big ass dildo in the middle of the first turn? A big bright yellow fecker as well!

OMFG, such a shitty track. What a snoozer. How could any designer with half a brain look at that layout on paper and go, "yep, this will make for some good, safe racing."

The Track was definitely terrible
No question about that
But i wonder who decides when to get new dirt
.. minnesota has some really great dirt
In general
But the dirt in the stadium was not good
And then combine that with bad design short lanes etc
And just all around bad

Feld has the track designs for every venue other than Dayton available for viewing before the season even starts.

I see people putting a lot of the blame on Dirt Worx but do they even have any say in the actual track design or are they just the guys hired to build it given the model.

This track was the worst by far. Between the start layout and all those turns. Look at all the crashes thru the first two turns in every moto. Every one of those guys knew if you didn't get a start, particularly tonight's track even more you were in trouble. Perfect example is the 7deuce deuce qualifying in the semi
