The second half of your post I completely agree with.
I was suggesting that once we have a good track like Phoenix/Glendale, let's keep that same design for next years Phoenix race. Not every round. Sheesh.
I don't know, maybe the track builders, promoters, teams and riders can put together a committee to address this.
Just think how great it is to bench race and talk about the different outdoor tracks over the years because there is some consistency and history.
I also think now is a better time than ever for the riders as a whole to come forward and voice their opinions, especially as their safety, careers, and health are at jeopardy.
Its apparent that the track designers, and whomever decided to go to timed events (IDIOTS!) did not take all factors into consideration. For the timed races we are adding a considerable amount of laps. For instance, if a 450 main is now 26 laps instead of a decades long proven formula of 20 laps, you just added 132 more times the entire track is going to be hammered by two wheels. Thats an entire heat/semi race added, then add in the longer 250 main.
These tracks are not being designed with the additional abuse in mind. Both in terms of base (how many bare spots has there been so far? dont forget about the 2x4 in oakland either), and damage to the face of jumps, whoops, and the turns. We've all seen rutted jump faces, one lined whoops, and deep ruts in turns before, but this year its becoming obvious that the tracks cant handle this abuse.
Minneapolis was quite possibly one of the dumbest track designs Ive ever seen. Both from a racers viewpoint, and a fan's view point. Cooper web got hurt, justin bogle got hurt, there was a near miss on Eli tomac, alex martin got hurt, Colt Nicholes and Alix got hurt, list goes on and on.
Feld/FIM/dirt wurx/AMA are failing on multiple levels. They can't possibly think they have been doing a good job.
Pit Row
No question about that
But i wonder who decides when to get new dirt
.. minnesota has some really great dirt
In general
But the dirt in the stadium was not good
And then combine that with bad design short lanes etc
And just all around bad
I see people putting a lot of the blame on Dirt Worx but do they even have any say in the actual track design or are they just the guys hired to build it given the model.
