Do you think this will be his last year? I know we are a few races in but still have not heard of any renewal in his contract. Could be interesting to see what happens if he does leave

Yes, but on his own terms, not because red bull ktm doesn't want to renew his contract.

As a long time dungey fan and fellow Minnesotan... dungey has accomplished it all and is content. In true dungey style I think he will call it quits with wealth and health.

I think a kind of "Rosberg" retirement which would be cool and so well deserved!

If he doesn't win the SX title I think he is done. Ole Dunge just keeps getting older and I think that he will be ready to hang it up once the next generation of 450 class riders(Tomac, Roczen, Barcia, Bagget, etc) are able to capture two titles in a row.

The writing is on the damn wall, I think he would have quit years ago if he hadn't been so successful in crushing all the new kids for the past however many years. If anything, the past few years of almost complete Dungey dominance have only served to prove how good RV2 really was.

He's probably seriously considering it. But I don't see anyone coming up that he couldn't handle.

Hard to tell but I lean towards no, solely based on his passionate response in the press conference about the "kennys out, so......" question. Seems to me he's still got enough fire. Not very solid to form an opinon on, but as MWM would say, doesnt really matter.

Tough to say. All I hope is that all the pro riders can retire wealthy and healthy, so I wouldn't be bummed whatever the decision.

Personally I think he will do 2 more seasons to get at least 1 more title, mainly because he said he was kind of rejuvenated from the summer off last year. Still based on how he rides I am 100% positive he could podium in 10 years.

I'd say probably depends on how much pressure tomac can keep on and what happens with roczen. Villopoto left because 1 he was over it all and 2 he knew what it would take to stay on top with hungry up and comers coming in. If roczen and tomac keep crashing theirselves out and dungey wins fairly easy I could see him trying to go for 5 in a row.

I think he's done regardless of the result this year. Him and his wife have said they want to start a family but only after he retires. I think that time is coimg very soon.

Dungey is a respectable guy, he wouldn't leave the industry with a coin flip... He respects his fans and hasn't talked much about the future because he's still racing to be better. If I had to say his plans it would be to continue competing till he's ready to announce his ending. Could be this year but i don't think he would mention it midway that he's done. 18 I would expect him to announce his future plans.

It is also possible to have kids at 38-42. They would just need to buy another house for trophies and championship bikes :-)

Yes.

My money would be on him retiring from racing and starting a family.

Just because there have been so many injuries
And he has already accomplished everything

I don't get why so many people want the top guys to retire? Yeah risk of injury and all that, but every time a top guy retires we lose a star and potential race winner.

I hope Dunegy/Reed/Stewart/Millsaps/etc keep racing as long as possible.

Here's hoping that we get to watch him for a while longer. I think he'll be like a painter...and not fully appreciated until after he's gone.

I say yes because when he had his neck injury he took several months off and was able to have a "normal" life. These guys have been riding and racing literally since kindergarten in a lot of cases. They have missed out on a lot. Racing is cool. It pays the bills but at some point you get burned out. I think Dungey is about there. He's done it all on a motorcycle. He's got millions in the bank. Time to go enjoy life.

He'll probably hang it up, take a nap, maybe order some pizzas. Doesn't really matter.

You're exactly right man. Pretty soon here we'll have no stars or race-winners left.
