After watching Kroc's crash over and over and over as I am sure many did. I can only come up with one explanation. Which is pure speculation on my part of course.
I have heard people say that he may have caught his right foot coming up out of the ruts ripping it off the peg kinda like KW did once chasing JS7, and Zach Bell did over that triple in his first year. Makes sense but if you watch the footage from the rear view his foot does not come off until he himself pushes both feet up off the pegs.
Then we have heard that his shock setting, or shock sensor launched him up and over. Well, if you watch just the bike it does not buck him, in fact it comes off kinda normal with one exception, the front end drops a tad just as he leaves the jump. And this is where my theory comes into play. I do understand that the MEC crash was mechanically different. He was in trouble on his first jump out of that turn going into the rhythm where he just got worse and worse until it resulted in a total endo. With that said here's what I think....
As he comes up the front end does drop ever so slightly as if the rear may have spun a tad on that dry flat face (cause he was all the way left outta the ruts and moisture). His reaction to the bikes input was to panic thinking he was going to endo AGAIN, so he made the decision to bail hoping to get his body over the next peak just like he did at the MEC. . His bail is 100% his intention if you watch it. He himself actively pushes with both feet and both arms to project himself up and forward.
Not bagging on him. This crash just baffled me.
Didn't Chad Reed kinda do the same thing when he bailed at Milleville in 2011? ('Cept he jumped right back on the bike.)
With the front dropping I think Ken made a wise decision bailing off the bike. If he tries to ride it out he may have gone nose first/head first into that landing. He could be looking at even worse injuries.
If you ask anyone:
A: take kens current injuries
Or
B: go head first into that landing with the full force of the bike behind you and not sure what injuries you will get. Maybe you walk away just fine. Or maybe you might get really fucked up.
I'm guessing most would chose option A.

No way Chad chose to bail on that one, he had no say in the matter.
What saved Reed (relative to Roczen) is that Reed landed on a downward slope and expended his body's energy gradually. Roczen came down onto flat ground and took a huge hit on one limb.
Very different crash.

General rule is always stay with the bike to take away the initial impact....unless it's following you in, then get the hell away.
Go watch it from all angles again. The seat does slap him a bit, but just after that he kicks with his feet, and pushes off hard with both arms to jump off the bike. The seat hitting him is part of that front end dropping slightly upon take off.
Again, so many emotional girls on here I feel I need to clarify that I am not making fun of him. Just examining the crash is all.
A: He might have died if he didn't.
Sure he has a badly damaged arm, but that would have been very ugly had he come up short/nose down. Terrible scenario and was forced to make a split second decision, all while his momentum was taking him off the bike anyways. Bailing was the right call IMO

Why - pretty simple - Fuck not again!
Certainly not bagging on him either - as I've had similar decisions to make in the last 50 years......
When bikes decides to separate from rider, it's best not to argue with it.
