The first 9 laps before Roczen crashed he averaged a 56.60 and Dungey's first 9 was 56.64, pretty much even.

Once again we watched him match his nearest rival's pace and now we get to watch the "Ryan Dungey: Going out on top retirement farewell tour"...

Sure, Kenny won the first two races (and the first one by a mile). But watching how Dungey responded in San Diego, and again last night in Anaheim, there was no way a championship for Kenny was a certainty. Just like how you're saying that another Dungey title is now a certainty.

Part of winning any title is outlasting the competition. Dungey has shown repeatedly that he can do that, while also avoiding the same mistakes that have befallen his competition.
Thats my point, after A1's runaway, the San Diego battle, and what was shaping up to be a great race last night, i agree that there was no way you can say for either of those guys, and thats what made it great .

I never thought that Kenny was a certainty, in fact i expected Dungey would step it up knowing he had his hands full, and he did. I never wrote Dungey off after A1, because you know you cant, but the guys that should be there giving these guys pressure like Tomac, seem to be way off over 20 +1

If Kenny crashed out last night, took a big fat 0 and put himself behind the 8 ball, and not have been out for the season, we would have still have had an epic battle to look forward too.

As it is , we dont, and that is gutting IMO.

I cant remember who started the whole * thing off, i was just saying Tongue

I know all the promoters for the next 14 races picked the wrong week to give up drinking.

At least i dont have to stay up all night any more, 3 rounds in and flagging already.

Its a shame for the sport, a shame for the fans, and for the media.

...All the promoters? It's the same one for all the SX races, with the exception of Daytona.

I mean the same shit happened the other way around in the outdoors. Except Kroc was kicking dungeys ass before Dungey got hurt. Dungey has been and continues to be "the bar" or whatever they called him. Very few can get above the bar and stay there healthy. He rides at a blistering but safe pace. He is the total package and continues to prove so.

Please don't. Oregon sucks, stay away.

No asterisk. The way I see it, Roczen and Dungey had shown they had the field covered. Kenny can go a bit faster than Dungey is willing to. But Dungey can go his just slightly slower pace indefinitely without mistakes. I thought Roczen might be at the point where he could to, and we were seeing a changing of the guard. I giuess not.

Dungey was leading the race and sure looked like he was going to win. Only 3 races into the season, not like Kenny won 11 in a row and then had a freak accident ruining his season. How is it that once again, people will blame Dungey for other people crashing out. It's not "consistent Dungey", its "winning Dungey". The dude knows how to get it done, period.

How would you suggest that we change things so that there are never ever any more "asterisk" by anyone's name because "x" competitor wasn't in the race.

It's friggin stupid that it has ever been done

You gotta be in it to win it! Whatever that entails. If you crash out YOU lost and it's up to someone else to win it and that person should be called "Champ" period!

Phil I used to think that when he won championships without winning races, getting 2nds and 3rds all the time and following riders around, unable to make the passes, but, since he started working with AB, he's much more aggressive, makes the passes and wins races pretty regularly now. It's legit...

I agree that it sucks as a spectator, but to bring up an asterisk, or to discredit Dungey at all is just ignorant, and a little trollish, not wrecking your brains out makes you the better racer

...and don't think for one second that Dungey is disappointed that he won't be able to beat Roczen for the championship, no matter what he says to the media. money is money and #1 is #1

Was roczen hurt in 2016 sx? I could have swore he raced all year healthy.
