...when there are Showa hybrid forks that are spring-equipped, but which also have air caps on both sides so that pressure can be added for fine-tuning.

Now, if it is a set up with the steel spring being against an IFP ( as a spring landing) and the air / gas spring being on the other side of the IFP, that could be a very useful thing, indeed.
