Explain to the guys calling you about lappers being a problem when they go to timed events, that lappers add drama, they are part of the show, they are the unknown X factor. Like them or not, from a SHOW standpoint they should always be there.

What would add drama is if you get lapped you're out of the race if you don't unlap yourself by the end of that lap. Every time a lapped riders gets pulled out of the race the Monster girls give the lapped rider a lap dance. They'll pop smoke in the family sections so the children are safe from seeing it.

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing I was with you until the second sentence. Although, I would make sure to go to any round close to me Whistling

On a serious note, why cant they pull the guys off that are getting lapped? If you are more than 1 1/2 laps behind you should be pulled off. I get that crashes happen, but how many of those guys get lapped because they are that far off the pace? Sometimes it's pretty bad.

Drama is awesome. Until the lapper takes out a championship contender in the heat of a battle they have no place being in and lets the air out of a great race/championship that's building.

Stewarts done it, Chisholm's done it, JT$ did it, Alessi's done it. Not that any of them mean it, its more of a wrong place wrong time thing. But that's still not the kind of drama you're looking for.

I agree with getting lappers out of there. And it would actually add to the drama because only the leader needs to lap them, so it might make the racing closer by adding a unique challenge to whoever is leading.

Also, if you skip part of the track on purpose (like the whoops), that should be a black flag. It's technically cheating, even if no position is gained. Those riders are still getting championship points without completing the entire track.

Isnt the winner supposed to get the spoils?

Jeff Alessi would be the lap dance champion with this theory.

Marvin Musquin. Probably not a fan of lappers.

I've still got a few kinks to work out.

I was being semi serious about the out of race if lapped part. I totally agree with people who think riders that intentionally skip a section should be black flagged for it.

I agree, I hate it when my guy is affected by a lapper but man there is some skilz some guys have that use lappers to get by the guy in front of them.

To me without lappers there is a lot less drama and the runaway wins would be even bigger. You can almost see the stress on the guy in first when he is worried about what is in front and what's behind.

Really what I'm talking about is purely from the spectators point of view.

There are 250 replies to threads with Matthes in the title on page 1 of this forum. Maybe Steve should be on the Vital payroll, I hear they need a new 250 test rider anyway Tongue

Yeah, he would have that 450 shootout posted already and a call in show go go with it too. j/k ML!

Wish they would consider this. Get lapped and you have that lap to earn it back. If you don't get back around you're done for the night.

I don't know if I like that either. I can just see some lapper punting the leader in a turn just to get back in the lead lap. Can you imagine if Vince was getting lapped?
12/9/2016 12:54pm
Dropping lappers would really screw up the points. There would be instances where podium guys would crash or get tangled up with someone in the first five laps and go down a lap. With the current system those guys can usually work up to around 10th place depending on how early in the race they went down. If you pulled them after the lead rider passed them you'd pretty well kill any championship hopes.
12/9/2016 1:28pm
Removing the lappers is probably the worst idea I've heard in a while. In most races the leaders lap up to about 12th-10th, which are pretty legit positions to be in and probably pay pretty well. Let's say you're a top 10 guy and go down in the first turn and it takes you awhile to get back going, and within a few laps you get lapped. So now instead of being able to come back from it and probably get 14th or so you now get 18th because you got lapped and don't even have an opportunity to better your position.

Sorry but the sports already top heavy enough, I don't think telling the non top tier riders that they get like half the laps because they're not as good is going to go over well.

Which race was it that RC lapped up to second or third? Sure would be boring watching one guy hauling the mail out there by himself.

I'm not sure you got what I was responding to. If a rule were implemented that a rider had one lap to get back on the lead lap or you're done, then there would be more incentive to get back on the lead lap instead of getting out of the way of the leaders coming through.

Well, if they kick lappers out of the race, then you will have more problems because they will be racing and blocking the leaders as to not get kicked out of the race.

edit oh shit hvaghn beat me to it.

Gotcha. I just can't ever remember someone getting lapped and then working their way back past the leader.

I don't think encouraging them to try and unlap themselves (imagine the howls of protest from riders and fans if that happened), would even make much of a difference. Usually the leader blows by and is gone.

Would have to go searching but it you are talking supercross it was the Race Reed and RC lapped everyone but DV I am pretty sure.

Part of what made that race so interesting was watching Reed close in on RC through the traffic, they were both using lappers to their advantage in those final laps.

Still one of the best races of all time despite 90% of the field be lapped.

Would have looked pretty silly to have Reed celebrate that win as he crossed the line with only RC right on his tale and DV on track just in front of them, 1ith 17 other riders watching on from the side lines!

I think longer lap times are the best solution for lappers.

I agree 100% lol. Jeff always looked so solid in the heats, semi's and LCQ's and he made about half of the mains I believe, but he would for sure have the most lap dances in this oddball scenario.

If you get lapped twice get pulled off. Still gives people a chance if they have bad luck in the first turn or minor crash.
