I guess he thinks if Monster is spending their money on Nascar there won't be as much available for SX/MX.
No need for worry. They cleared over $500 million in profit last year. They've got plenty of money to burn.

What I'm interested in knowing is what they profit most off of directly. Drink sales? Merchandise? Doesn't seem to me like that many people drink Monster anymore, or energy drinks in general for that matter. In recent years customers have been made more aware of the shit that's inside and what it does to your health. $500 million is definitely way more than I expected, however for how much they spend it does make sense.
Monster has basically the same share of cooler space as Pepsi or Coke at the local gas stations. Then add in every sports bar and night club that uses it as a mixer. I believe they can handle both SX and Nascar. Doesn't Monster have a big part of the SX expansion that's rumored to start next year?

People also know how bad meat, alcohol, cigarettes, Donuts, ... all are but those firms make massive profits too!

Just because a company makes some good profits does not mean they have money to burn. The board does not just say spend spend spend.
Reed is pointing out that most likely ME is going much bigger than the sport of MX and most likely when they do this they will drop the sport sooner or later. If you notice Reed also has been the guy trying to show the industry that sponsors in this sport struggle due to rules and limitations placed upon them by the people in charge of the sport.
I looked up F1 team budgets out of sheer curiousity last week.
A year or two ago Redbull took the top spot with 416 million Euro for ONE year of racing....granted plenty of sponsors put into that pot, Redbull had to put in a solid portion to be the title sponsor.
Point is I can't imagine companies like Monster and Redbull are all that concerned with moto affecting their bottom line...I doubt we as a sport are in their top 3 of biggest sponsorship expenditures.
I don't see Monster turning their back on the sport that gave them their original platform...me thinks Reedy is doing what he does best and has us discussing his shower thoughts...
As much as I admire Mr. Reed for what he's accomplished, I get tired of his and others' cryptic crap stirring. I come from a time when if a dude had something to say, he just said it. This high school girlish style of communication where one throws a rock into the pond and sits back to see what the ripples pull in is ridiculous.
You got something to say, just say it. Otherwise, zip it. Rant over.

Actually I knew exactly what he was up too but it reeks a little of sour grapes imo. Chad's team wasn't sustainable so watch out everybody else almost as if he takes enjoyment out of it. I'd be surprised if Monster bails on SX anytime soon based on the demographic but what the hell do I know?
There isn't much cryptic about that tweet, companies tend to only allocate a certain amount to sponsorship each year in their budgets. With them now throwing money at NASCAR some MOTO teams/riders may get affected, this isn't saying it will and neither is Reed's tweet but it could.
From what I have read they got the NASCAR naming rights at a steal compared to previous naming rights sponsors didn't they?
Also who owns the naming rights to the Monster Energy Cup? If it is Monster themselves couldn't they also name the NASCAR the Monster Energy Cup?

The dosage makes the poison. You can die drinking too much water and more people do vs. drinking energy drinks.

Coke also bought 17% of Monster last year so I am sure there is some directional input coinciding.
It's funny to watch how often these energy drink companies trade hands. Monster at one point was at least distributed by Dr. Pepper. At the time Coke had RockStar. I believe there was a short stint at Pepsi and I don't know who had it before Coke got it this time around.
What ever happened to RockStar? Is it still around?
