2017 Darkhorse?

Anderson, Seely and Musquin have already proven themselves to be front runners.

I'm going to say Millsaps or maybe Pourcel.

I wouldn't call Marvin a darkhorse, he was really good already in his rookie year.

Pourcel on the other hand could do very well if he can turn the raw speed into 20 laps.

Malcolm Stewart.
You can watch laptimes this weekend at EuroSX race. Lakes will be frozen soon and he will have time to do some proper training before A1.

Some of you guys never learn. When has DM ever been more competitive than Reed? If CR says he's racing he will be competitive and faster than DM as long as he is healthy.

The only difference is now it might take Reed another couple laps to lap DM.

That's what you call "getting owned"!
If by "Dark Horse" you mean for the championship, I don't believe there is one. If the top 4 or 5 guys, or most of them stay healthy, no one lower than that has a chance at the championship imo. If Dungey, Roczen, Tomac, and possibly Musquin and Anderson are able to race every event, I don't see anyone else having any chance of a championship.

If you're talking "Dark Horse" for multiple podiums and potential wins, I think there could be several. Webb, Sealy, Canard, Pourcel, Reed, etc. I have to say that while Milsaps can podium, I also believe many of you guys overrate him. Yes he had a couple of good years, but he is quickly approaching 30 if not already there and the top is too loaded for him to ever be a serious contender imo. Without catastrophic dilution at the top due to injury, I really feel Milsaps may just barely squeeze his way into the top 10 by the end, but that's just my opinion.

You may be on to something, but for this to happen, MS needs to stay off the ground which will be a huge challenge for him. I honestly believe the 450 may suit him much better because of his size. With that said, I believe there is just too much talent already in place and more coming up for MS to really ever contend for the championship.

Seely would be my other pick.

not without people pointing and laughing.

Marvin in SX .. I think he will breakout this year, be a regular threat.

Pourcel needs to stay healthy.

And Benny Bloss.. he set the bar outdoors already, lets see what SX brings.

Barcia didn't get a fair chance at SX last year. Got injured the week of A1. So I expect him to remind people how well he rides SX.

Musquin has to be a threat. Marv posses the talent and speed to hit that "Tomac/Roczen" level this year in SX if he can mentally get there.

Pourcel.... I just don't ever see him being willing to hang it out at 100% again. The guy has been through a lot, I don't blame him, but he rides anywhere from 85-95% on most days. I think we saw him close in on 100% at Washougal and he landed on his head...

I'm 6'2'' and I admire the hell out of Bloss for being able to race a dirt bike at his level being that freaking tall!

Haha. Thats as dark of a horse as it gets. Is he racing 450s finally or is he going to continue on in the 250 class?

Agree with Marvin. He's my dark horse pick. The only problem I have with Marvin is that even though he competed with Dungey last year a couple of times, it didn't carry from race to race. And the Stewart issue got him all mentally out of whack.

As for Barcia, I don't see the brand of bike closing the kind of gap the front runners have over him. But it would be a pleasant surprise. Hell, more riders at the front of the pack is ALWAYS a good thing, but we've seen year after year that the gap to the front is a BIG hurdle to overcome.

A fair few of the Dark Horses mentioned are already fairly established runners and maybe not really dark horses as they are expected to do good, say like Anderson/ Musquin.
I'd go with someone like Bogle or Mookie. Reckon Bogle could surprise a few, maybe not for the title so much but possibly podiums. Bogle seems a great starter, or he did on the Gieco bike often.

James will not win another race unless it's the +30 class at lorettas. Stop with the nonsense!

Dark horse could be milsaps. Not going to win a championship but might battle for occasional podiums when the moon lines up.

Reed might get a podium but will probably spend more time not liking a track and complaining about something. I think milsaps might ultimately be more competitive overall.

I could be totally wrong on all this. That's why they run the races!!
Obviously he has to have fitness and all that. But i doubt he just shows up to A1 on a honda that hes ridden for a week. And if he does show up prepared he will win another race. With how unprepared and unfit james looked at A1 last year he was still 3rd fastest in practice and was in the lead pack till he got taken out by dungey. I think people forget just how good james is on a bike because of this year. If he does come back and race, he will have something to prove and IMO he will win a few races. Plus maybe hes doing it for his son.

It seems like Jason really earned a lot of our respect with that ride at des nations, I've always been a fan of his style but seeing him perform under pressure like that solidified my hopes for his success.

Anderson's average finish in SX in 2016 was 4. Reed's average finish was 7.05

Lets hope there is no aftereffects of that major crash at the MXDN. Sure hope that doesn't take any wind out of his sails.

Everyone at JGR will be shitting themselves.. they hoofed the bike that Barcia hated for the one that won last year, he has to deliver or else, and i think he will struggle with that pressure.

If he gets a good result early on, and a bit of momentum, then maybe, otherwise i think Peick and Philthy will make him look ordinary again.

Millsaps may be a threat , but threat podium, not the title.

Spot on!

Whatever Barcia says about the bike....."ummmm that bike won the championship last year!"
