When you quit riding did you become less interested in the sport?
I quit riding about 5 years ago but during the times I rode and raced on weekends I lived and breathed the sport. Never missed a race and was on this message board 10 times a day.
Now that I dont ride anymore I still watch races but don't get quite as excited and to be honest didn't even finish watching the mx of nations yet on my dvr.
Don't get me wrong I still follow the sport but not with the same passion I did when I was riding.

I've actually spent more time as an adult not riding than riding and it's not lessened my enthusiasm for it at all... Just life priorities at times have and haven't let me ride. Still happy to argue with you jerkies regularly tho!

Never lost the passion. That said, as I have gotten older, I look at time spent watching TV different. Example, if you watch all the NFL games during the week its 5 games at 3 hours each. 15 hours? Fuck that. I personally go to at least three races a year: MEC, Vegas Supercross and Hangtown.

I never "quit" racing but was forced to stop due to injuries. I definitely watch SX and MX races more now than when I was active. But I'm not dead yet, when I get this worked out I will roost again!, and probably ride more and watch less.

When i got my first dirtbike at 8 years old and up until i was 19 it was all i thought about and really cared about. Then idk what happened. Sold my bike and pitbike and got out of it completely up until 3 years ago. I cant explain what was going through my mind in those 5+ years of no dirtbike. I didnt follow mx at all during this time either. When i got a bike again i instantly fell in love. This year i think ive ridden more than i ever have. Been riding every weekend sometimes twice a week if possible, and i feel im more passionate about riding now than my teenage days.

I have always loved watching racing
Mx sx and drag racing
I have 3 awesome kids and takes time and money for that
and car is in garage and is runs 9's on pump gas raw
And street driven
My bike gets ridden at the track 4-6 times per month

That's all the time and money I can do at this time in my life
Car is driven once a week mostly around town
And no money or time to race it

I will always watch sx and mx
The sport is the best sport on earth
I was at sx in superdome in 1978 and watched Hannah win like a beast and after that I was hooked for life

Then came RC
Nothing compares after that lmao!!!!!!!!!!

Still a Emig fan also

Fuck no I broke my back last year quit riding and I'm still pretty much consumed by the sport even if it's smart for me to never ride again

Start riding again? Yeah. It's the only constant in my life

Didn't quite accomplish my goals in the sport before having to quit, so I wasn't really excited about being JUST a fan for several years after that. Once I was older and accepted that it was never gonna happen for me, I was able to appreciate the sport from the view of a fan. Probably a bigger fan than ever now.

Never quit riding, still watch every race I can.Been at it for 46 years. So to answer your question,No.

Got in to stand up jetskis, feels strangely similar to mx without the hard ground to fall on. Still watch mx though, the passion never fully goes away

I quit riding, walked away and never looked back. Occasionally, I'll take a peek, maybe 4X a year.

I did the same thing. I haven't sold my bike but it just doesn't run. And I haven't put it together for over two years. I just haven't got the fire in my anymore. I love dirt bikes but other things are more on the priority of fun for now. Fishing, surfing, hunting, women. I think it's a part of growing up

I mix dirt riding up with trials riding. As one gets older, the drive to go fast is not as important. The goal to get over an obstacle without dabbing is more challenging.

Hung up the boots in 89 and switched over to jet skis. Figured that i would race them locally instead of living out of a moto van and hotels for months on in. 6 months of riding at the local lake in NM I was racing an IJSBA national in Austin, TX qualifying for the world finals in Havasu, and spending my winters in San Diego training at mission bay. 9 years later I found a great deal on a 94 KX250 and got back into riding.

Have not ridden much the past year with a torn meniscus in my knee, a broken back and now nerve pain from a bulging disc. Still have followed the sport and the racing as much as possible.

Have not quit after 20 years, do not intend to. Things have got in the way, for certain. But MX is special, and I have always tried to make some space for it.

I am less interested in Pro racing as each year goes by. I had a VHS of Unadilla and the Pontiac SX from 2000 that I completely wore out. I still follow it very closely, but the young me would have watched every race available at least three times.

I didn't ride during college so I hardly paid attention to the sport at all for those 4 years. It wasn't so much because I lost interest while not riding, it was just difficult to watch knowing I wasn't able to do it. When I got back into the sport I viewed it differently and now appreciate the times I get to ride and race a heck of a lot more than ever before.

I quit at 48 years old, wasn't riding much anymore anyways so it wasn't too hard. Before that, I always asked myself what else would I do, It was the only thing I was really good at. Well...there are other things in life to enjoy. Got into shooting and got a 1000 RZR utv, its pretty darn fun and safe. I still try and never miss a race though and come on here less often, but still enjoy talking about the sport. It gets easier with time...

Quitting is for quitters...

I know what you mean. Watching racing is a lot more interesting when you ride and race yourself. I have always thought this sport, mainly outdoor racing, does not translate to TV that well.
If you have never raced, you don't get how tough it is. So I think most every fan has ridden or raced at some point.

I started racing mx at 8. Eventually I stopped riding and was off the bike and didn't own one for 5 years from 22-27 yrs old. I was racing A class when I quit after separating a shoulder & breaking my humerus, breaking a femur, breaking both wrists at the same time and tearing an ACL/MCL, a few bad concussions, all from age 18-21. My body had taken a beating and I didn't have the money or insurance to be racing and maintaining bikes in my early 20's.

When I was out, I actually followed the sport more. I don't know if it is just easier to follow and enjoy the sport these days with the internet and social media offering more and more quality info, but I never lost the interest. Now that I've been back on the bike for two years, I don't race for money anymore or try to go to Loretta's and I haven't broken anything. I still crash, but usually it's not too bad. I go to most tracks and my skill allows me to jump everything on the first few laps, but I don't ride that ragged edge anymore. I can go ride at 90% all the time, still go kind of fast and I have really found a new enjoyment riding my dirt bike. Those years off the bike were much needed for my body too.

I see Nelson, Button, Fonseca, Henry and it scares me, but not enough to quit riding forever. It's in my blood by now.

I left the motorcycle industry to get a big boy job, and decreased my riding tremendously. Most of that was from just being burned out from riding 3-4 times a week. I still havent fully recovered from the burned out stage, but I am working back in the industry, and riding more often. Personally, at 28, I enjoying salt water fishing and watching Football with local buddies at the local pub. I still dont drive anywhere without Pulp playin, and usually check this place out a few times a day. My passion for the sport will never diminish.

Still love it just as much as I did when I first got into it. I have a bike, gear, and everything that I need to go riding, but I no longer put in the effort to do so due to many other reasons (injury, logistics, accumulating costs, bills, school, no riding buddies). Instead, I picked up an even more expensive hobby... taking photos of other people riding dirt bikes. It seems next to impossible for me to just give up and move on.
