Leaves a bad taste in my mouth to hear he may have been blown off by team USA for being a man about a bad situation. Imagine the shit that would be said if he didn't go over to check on him... Bullshit, IMO.
I agree. Total dick move if true. Hopefully the team USA guys feel differently in hindsight and hadn't seen the footage at that point.

Interesting...

Such GENIUS opinions; but, someone PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT A CHECKERED FLAG MEANS?

Then there's this: what's your definition of "Accident"?

Most reasonable people know an accident when they see one.

Just because Anderson is a top pro rider does not mean he is smart, he may not be stupid but he screwed himself this time and paid the price.

If YOU were a Pro rider you would know that rolling over a finish line jump to get the conquered flag (after passing lappers) is probably not the best idea ...but then I guess you know better as a non-Pro then eh?

Why do we have to even have a finish line jump?
Change that and the problem goes away...

I agree with DonM. Absolutely no reason to have any kind of finish line jump and what happened is not surprising in the least.

Instead of the Governing body trying to legislate common sense they should instead just use their own common sense and finish on the straight.

NOTE: Common sense is not something that can be legislated by anyone. It's something that is learned and aquired over time . If the Governing Body has a finish line like this in the future then they have not learned or aquire any.

I'm more interested if he has a statement out or has reached out to Jason.

Seriously? Chihiro could have seriously got hurt! That, and he was being followed by 2 riders battling for second? And the race ends after you clear the finish jump. I think it was Malin who made a comment that every rider should look ahead and keep in mind that the winner might be celebrating on the finish jump, ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!!! That theory sounded so stupid.... damn.

Jason made a mistake, he was exited and forgot about his surroundings for a moment. It happens to everyone sometimes!
This just sums it up

"Every rider should look ahead and keep in mind that the winner might be celebrating on the finish jump"

How stupid does that sound sound ?

Kinda highlights the lack of wisdom JA displayed.

Has any racer ever been told watch out for the finish line party ever in their career ? No most people assume that racer are clever enough not to jump off and dance on the finish line while the whole pack still has to cross that same line at race pace ! DOH

I just watched the MXGP at Glen Helen that Eli won by quite a few seconds. He rolls the finish line and in the back ground you can see riders letting up because they know that first place lapped them. I'm repeating my self from other posts. It's not a blind jump , Notsuka was just passed by Jason shortly before the finish line, It's hard to believe that he wasen't aware of how close he was. I put most of the blame on Notsuka. It doesn't change anything that happened. I'm really glad Jason is ultimately O.K.
Are you being serious?
Moto1: He jumped it
Moto2: He rolled it, and the backmarker behind him jumped it. If he had gone as slow as Anderson he may have got landed on....

Some of you should watch the end of that race again. It is pretty clear he is cruising to the finish line. You can see the lapped rider behind him as he has his hand in the air and then he hits the slight left and over the finish. Should he have jumped it? Probably in hindsight, but Chihiro was clearly not paying attention.

Here's an idea. Why don't we have a really wide last corner that sets up perfectly for an outside-to-inside cut back situation (while the guy in front has to protect the inside line). Follow that with a really fast finish straight to the checkers (with no jump). Then we'd have half a chance of a thrilling dash to the line like you get in road racing.

Safer, and with the potential for a photo finish, which we never get as long as there's a finish line jump that everyone has to back off to a set speed for.

Does the 'no finish line jump' rule apply for SX? Won't look as impressive when they 'light the candles'

The slight left he was probably focusing on while Anderson was rolling over the take off? I would say he was paying full attention, staying ahead of the guy chasing him

I agree with moving the line. Move the actual finish line a ways after the proposed "finish line jump". Should do it. I don't blame either one really. It was just a bad incident. Jason was overly excited and prob relieved and ready to celebrate and relax, and the other guy thought he still had a race on his hands and was going for it. I can see both sides! Let's just move this finish line away from the take off of a jump and make sure this goofy shit never plays out again!

We all know, that finish line jumps are good for media and promotions, but not good for riders. But who today are interested in what is good for riders

If you want to stay in the racing line and roll the finish line jump while an active race is completing, then thats the choice you make. No one said dirtbikers were smart.

Im sure, that the MADNESS is because Anderson is "USA STAR RIDER". If it happened to someone else, media are not so much interested.

If one of those crazy spectators that came onto the track as the last moto was finishing had gotten landed on, whose fault would that have been?

Yeah, how dare the US media focus on an incident involving a US rider...

Common sense....there is no such thing as common sense....if it were common everyone would have it....it's just sense...and there are lot of that don't have it...Wink

What happened sucks, but you cant expect a motocross racer to stop racing until he gets to the finish line. Its called a jump for a reason, JUMP IT!!!!!!

Japanese rider lacked situational awareness. Yes, Anderson should have done a better job with his finish. They are both responsible for this crash. Had either one made a different decision then the out come could have been different. Seeing as Anderson was the winner, and a lapper landed on him after the finish line jump then a bigger part of the blame goes to the lapper for lack of awareness. End of Story. Anderson crossed the finish line. He got landed on by a lapper. This is not hard to understand. They both share in the blame, however more so for the lapper that landed on the race winner. Poor finish line design played a part in it. Move on people.

This reminds me a bit of when a car breaks down in a car lane. And another car rear ends it. The car broken down is not responsible for being rear ended by another car. The other driver must use situational awareness and pay attention. He rear ended another car. He is at fault even though one doesn't expect a car to be broken down in the driving lane. It's called responsibility.

The Japanese rider did not navigate the finish line jump in a safe and responsible manner. He landed on the race winner.

Move on. Case closed.

Still can't believe anyone can blame a motocross racer for jumping a jump...

Does anyone doubt this japanese guy had no clue that Anderson was stopped on the landing?

DV said 100% on Anderson, I agree , You just cant roll that slow in the racing line over a blind jump . All the other pics of riders rolling , none of them are rolling in the racing line , and all the jumps are nt blind either
