there was one odd info in one of the recent outdoor races. they said the team is working on tomacs riding technique to ride the bike more like it should be ridden, meaning in the lower rpm's. in general this isn't odd at all but if you think at eli's performance last year, then this seems a bit strange to think this guy needs a lesson on how to ride a bike.
maybe there is quite some finger pointing going on.

they also said that because he is riding differant because of his shoulders hurting they were adjusting the bike for his new style..... It's dumb to think they don't do all they can to do whatever they can for a guy they are paying that much!

Wiemer did better on the factory KX than he has done since
what I was talking about was some 2 or so races ago. I don't think his shoulder injury is having any effect on his bike setup since halfway through sx. I know what you mean tho, softer forks in the beginning of sx etc. but I think just before daytona apparently they rebuild the bike and started from scratch with bike setup because his shouldes were probably that much stronger than in the beginning.

It sure is odd that kawasaki wouldn't allow him to change certain things but roczens dilemma last year showed there is a lot politics going on with that much money involved.

Nothing new here. Rewind six or seven years ago who was it that got a guest ride on the factory Kawasaki Brandin Jessemen maybe? Believe the rider hit a big tractor tire near the course (Freestone?) resulting in a tweaked wrist and the end of the guest ride.

It was a one or two race deal but Kawi said here's the bike now go ride it. They were not interested in making changes.

From what I have heard this is SOP for Kawi.
I do feel that might be a bit apples to oranges comparison. Jessemen was not being paid million of dollars, he was not the face of the team. He was not expected to win a championship.

I do respect your inside knowledge however and if this is how Kawi operates with a champion level rider like Eli then they seriously need new management on that team.

I wouldn't expect a guest rider to require a lot of changes and really would not hold it against Kawi if they were not interested in making a ton of changes for a guest rider.

Eli is a different matter and they should do as much as they can to make him comfortable. It seems like Eli and the team and rowing in different directions. This is where a strong team manager (Decoster) can get everyone on track.

I can see Kawasaki saying we want you to go fast on a Kawasaki, we aren't going to cut it up and make it a Honda or KTM

Not sure how much latitude that Factory teams have in changing frame geometry, but different frame numbers and flex characteristics could play into it as well. Found it interesting that Kawie has changed their numbers ever since Villopoto moved on from Supercross. Curious if Tomac's sampled a 2014 frame.

2010 - 26.7° / 4.6 in.
2011 - 26.7° / 4.6 in.
2012 - 26.9° / 4.4 in.
2013 - 26.9° / 4.4 in.
2014 - 26.9° / 4.4 in.
2015 - 27.9° / 4.7 in.
2016 - 28.0° / 4.9 in.

It is the first year in a new team after a serious injury, he proofed already he can win on the kawi... I really dont see why you would leave the team right now as he learned a lot about the bike and has more experience next year which is good for his results obviously.
Starting again in a new team, searching for 'the' setup, etc... doesnt make sense to me... IMO of course

It doesn't make sense, but if you can get on a bike that you can do anything with, you will get there.. get on a bike that you cant , and you wont.

Some riders can ride anything.. some have to get everything right before they can start to push the envelope.

Politics in motorsport is rife.. why you think the original thread got canned.
RC in an exception lol

So let me get this straight... Kawasaki pays ET millions per year to win races. But Kawasaki won't let Eli set up the bike how Eli wants?

Could someone in the know explain what exactly they won't let Eli change?

I'm trying to understand what parts on a bike Kawasaki would take a hardline on and not change. If Eli says xyz will make him comfortable, someone on the team is saying "no" you will run abc.

This doesn't make sense to me.

RCH let Ken go back to stock triple clamps. Are we to believe that if Eli wanted to go back to stock triple clamps that the powers that be at Kawasaki would say no?

If this is indeed true, then it's no wonder ET struggles on the bike. However, I find this all very hard to believe considering the investment they have made in Eli to win races.
Eli loves full waffle grips, but Kawi will only let him use half-waffles......

Yeah. If RD retires in 2017 KTM will probably go all in for Eli since he would be pretty much the only guy that actually can contend for a title on the market. Unless they drag Herlings over to US but that will probably never happen.

If this is the case on something as innocuous as grips he definitely needs to work with DeCoster. Dude knows his waffles.

RV only rode green for his whole pro career,he has no point reference, Eli knows what the honda did,and wants that feeling.

RV steers with the rear, ET is a front man.

Why? He stays at Kawie for another 2 years? My speculaion also includes speculation that Dunge retires after the 17 season.

Damn... Shocked Was there some friction between you two before this comment ? If not, you might've took that a little wrong, I figured it was just another smart ass comment that could be looked past.
But as long as you brought it up, how rich are you and how long you been racing Pro ? Tongue (I kid, I kid...)

I'm assuming it has to do with the hilarious post a while back about new bike models and Kiwi mentioned he's a local pro/ex pro and his dealer wanted him on the new bike. It has been referenced a few times since Grinning

Gotcha, I hadn't picked up on that, but I can understand his frustration. I'm behind his post then, not that what I'm behind matters... Tongue
