I was probably 7 when I grabbed too much throttle on one of the smallest jumps on the track- needless to say, that didn't end well. I endowed and had the bike fly maybe 10 feet in front of me. Didn't even break a single part of the bike, but blew a piston lol

Vital, let's hear the stories!

Worst in getting hurt or worst in shoulda gotten killed?

I had many that i grabbed the bike and continued wondering how i wasn't dead.

Here's a kinda funny one,

Muddy creek fall of 89,i know because of the bike was on.

My cagiva quit on the gate, coil mount had broken loose. My friend and his dad has just bought a Suzuki shop and he had his brand new rmx 250,the enduro thing,so I hop on it and take off. We were running the track backwards for the first time so even though the bike was slow and under sprung the guys couldn't select lines and i get 2nd.

Next moto on the opening lap I'm passing guys around the outside pinned, come to the downhill that is now the bomber jump and pin it 5th off there. There was a wet weather spring so the bottom was deepruts. The damn quads had run before us and tamped it smooth hiding the ruts.

The bike digs in and I cartwheel a long ways. I wake up to litz talking to me,get up staggering around looking for my bike. They hand me a suzuki and I tell them that ain't it. He says yeah, you're riding this today watch that throttle it messed up.

I get fired and start the normal way and he yells ,no,we are running it backwards. I figure I'm to messed up and head to the truck. My friend is all materialistic and they pour over their new bike totally fubar.

Im hurtin and get loaded but can't get out so I lay down a minute in my van. Next thing i know everyone is gone and I can't see out my left eye hardly my right and my collarbone appears broken now that I've come off the adrenaline.

I drive home wobbling and get pulled over. The cop thinks I'm drunk so i got to open my trailer. But i cant remember the combination to the lock. Finally get it open and he lets me go.

Bad bad concussion and separated shoulder. Called my buddy and cussed him out for letting me sleep because he was mad about the fubar bike.

OMC in Boise prolly 4-5 years ago when off jump landed on a a pile of dirt (from draining the track) got tossed land on my peg. Broke 7ribs, punctured lung, and internal bleeding. When I tried to crawl off the track to get the hell out of the way, I felt my lung collapse!! Couple nights in the ICU with a chest tube, almost as good as new now. I was suppose to start nursing school that Monday wrecked on Sunday wife wasn't impressed to say the least

OJ'd a jump and put pro taper bar mounts through my jaw. Broke the jaw right down the middle, with 1/4 " separation all the way down, and 'shattered' the joints up by my ears.

And there was that time I snapped both my ankles on a SX triple....

FYI: This is me without a broken face

Lol. I would rather do my jaw again and be wired shut than re-tear my ACL again and do that rehab!

AHRMA Vintage National in Steamboat Springs Colorado back in 1993. Signed up for 125 Sportsman Int. and 250 Sportsman Int. 50 entries in each class so they split each class into 25 rider gates and gave points to each gate. First motos went well , think I got top 5 in each. Second moto 125 and I snapped a rod launching the start! Pushed that one back to the trailer and went back to the gate for my 250 class 2 motos later.

A poor start on the 250 had me about eigth when we got a few corners in to an area where they had a split in the track allowing 2 totally different lines. Everyone was bottlenecking to squeeze through the short line so I pinned it and went around it all. Next corner where the lines came back together I had passed quite a few people but their line was carrying a lot more speed at this point and I got drilled. If that wasn't bad enough, the resulting highside and tumble was even worse. Ambulance ride out of the pasture was rougher.

X-rays showed my rt. foot had a broken big toe, got it taped up. Rt knee was fugged with a torn ACL and other misc. rt clavicle was snapped in two and all my right ribs were severely bruised but none broke. ER doc told me they would hurt a lot more than if they were broke and for the next six or so weeks, I truly believed him. Unable to use crutches with my rt. arm in a sling and a brace on my right leg we headed back to our condo we were staying at. Up 4 flights of stairs with no elevator....aaaarrrggghh. ACL replacement and had to get the shoulder screwed back together twice. Pretty brutal recovery getting that leg to move and flex again.

Exactly one year later I snagged my left foot in a rut, twisted my ankle and broke my leg.Blush

Technically my 10min nap in 2014 and week worth of memory loss was worse, but since I don't remember that the below was worse.
They gave me morphine though for the hip.
No, it didn't help (much)

I did that and I crashed... landing a jump, worst year of my life and am still paying...
and after that, 3 months later had same bones broken(by a skilled orthopedic) and repaired properly...

I crashed into a monster truck at the Fargo Dome after whiskey throttling through a set of the wimpiest whoops you've ever seen. That was my first race on dirt and the embarrassingly high level of hilarity (stupidity) made that one stick with me.

My worst was probably a broken tibia I got from casing a double on my own practice track. That was stupid too, but at least I didn't crash. Cool

I've broke many bones over the years I've been racing and riding. My very worst one was at the ripe old age of 37yrs old in 2005. Around 30 broken bones and a little over 3 weeks in the hospital. First 5 days in ICU strapped to a breathing machine from double punctured lungs. Missed about 3 months of work ( I ran an indoor arenacross track for 4yrs during that time ). If it wasn't for my family and all my awesome friends and fellow members of my track....I don't know how I would of made it through that. I quit riding for 6yrs after that.....but I'm glad to be back at it again.

My worst as far as injury was on an 85 when I was 13. It was a long roller section that was on a turn and kind of high speed. Nobody saw the crash because it was open practice and no flaggers and a part of the track you can't see. A rider came around that section and saw me laying on the track not moving. I have no idea what happened. Next thing I remember is waking up two days later in the hospital with a fractured skull and blown ear drum. Pretty much had to learn to walk again and couldn't ride for months.

Worst as far as the actual crash would be at raceway park new jersey in 2006. Anyone that's ever been there knows there's a little drop off out of the first turn. I'm running 3rd out of the first turn and the guy in second clips my front end and I get hit from behind right before the drop off. Over 20 guys crashed. I have yet to meet or talk to anyone else that was involved. My bike was destroyed. Smashed silencer, brake lines cut completely, engine case cracked, bars destroyed, broken sub frame, and broken clutch lever. Most of the plastic had to be replaced. I think they hauled 3 or 4 guys out in an ambulance. Races had to be put on hold because all the ambulances left. I just ended up with a broken collarbone. First question I asked my dad was "did you get it on tape?" And he did. I'll dig it up here

Are those pins in the ankle a broken talus? Is that the pain you still have? I broke my talus and sub taylor dislocation in 1989, still hurts every day, worst injury for me.
But in 93 I broke my right femur (broke left one in 91) two places compound fracture, 5 ribs, punctured lung, both bones in arm, wrist, ac separation, two teeth, KO'd 2 minutes all in one crash due to a "false neutral" over a triple I had jumped over a hundred times!

Snapped my femur racing 85's and couldn't walk for 6 months. That was gnarly.

From when I first started racing at 10 to age 18, I broke my collar bone twice, dislocated my shoulder and snapped my humerus at the same time, then broke my wrist. Then broke my femur the next year. Then broke my wrist again. Then I said fuck dirt bikes and went to college and for a real job.

Then 5 years later after having the fever and buying all new shut too look cool, I hop back on it and try to huck a decently huge triple at the end of the day because I was feeling confident. Come up short and break my wrist again. come onto vital and talk shit for the rest of my life.

Can't remember what my worst crash was, but worst one this year I do. 2nd gear wide grabbing 3rd out of a womped out sweeper, front end deflected on something and sent me superman style off the bike. Landed about 15-20 feet forward of the bike square on my shoulder/head, snapping my left scapula in half near my glenoid. If it wasn't for my leatt brace without a doubt id have a broken neck and probably be in a wheelchair. So basically my season ended last month. Had surgery on that shoulder in 2013 for a labrum tear and still not sure if there's any damage to my shoulder other than the break, I'll find out next week when I start therapy I guess.

My most spectacular was in '04 at a local stadium cross style track. They had just built a roughly 120' quad jump and after racking my balls hard twice in a row coming up a little short, I decided there was no way I was coming up short again. OJ'ed it and landed so hard that I slid back and whiskey throttled over the following single that led into a huge bowl berm probably about 50' away. I flew over the bars off the single due to the previously mentioned whiskey throttle and landed without bike into the face of the berm, then bounced off the berm and flew over the other side falling maybe 15' to my resting place. I don't remember the last half of the crash, but am told it was quite amazing. Like an idiot I did not go to the doctor, but my back was in so much pain that I could barely speak and laid there on the ground all night and the next day until we went home. One of more than enough bad get offs, but that one had to be the most spectacular.

Gnarly!!! I did in my fib a couple years ago without crashing and ended up with a plate and six screws, but you've outdone me by a long shot!! First moto related incision after 25 years on the bike. I've definitely been lucky.

I have said it before, other than Automotive accidents, motocross riders probably keep orthopedic surgeons in the game.

Their first class probably shows motocross fails video.

When I was 13 I was at our local practice track and they had a short straight away followed by a real big rollers section that went down a hill and kind of turned as you went down the hill. I had ate shit there the weekend before on my 250f (ran out of power about 3 from the end and the front wheel dropped in) So this day I'm on the 450 I decide not to take a sight lap so looking at the rollers wont get in my head I come around first lap triple in and skim the rest absolutely perfect I still don't think I've ever hit a set of rollers that fast to this day. Complete about another half of a lap and I was so happy about how well I hit the rollers I decide to just cut the track and do it again. I went to triple in again and went way too far and ended up hitting the 4th one with my front wheel and got the ass end swapping so I pin it hoping I can get it going back forward and I thought I had it saved I was out of control across probably 5 or 6 of them and then I finally got tossed and landed on my head in the middle of the track. I knocked the wind out of myself so I tried to stand up and knew something wasn't right. Dad gets to me I tell him my leg is broke and I get the usual "you landed on your head you didn't break your fuckin leg" So we get my boot off and loaded in the golfcart and back to the truck. Pops thinks I just sprained my ankle or something so hes holding me up while I change I put just a little weight on my leg and it folded like a suitcase I mean I was looking straight down and looking at the bottom of my foot instead of the top lol. I ended up breaking my tib/ fib straight across a few inches above my ankle and completely sheared both corners of my tib off right under the knee. Only thing I can figure is as I was swapping my foot came off and I slammed it into the top of one of the rollers. Ended up with 23 screws and 2 rods. Still hurts every day. You'd think with as much as these surgeries cost they could make us better than before not worse! lol

I haven't had any major bones breaking but tearing the right ACL twice + one time injuring the meniscus wasn't good at all. Especially when i was only 13 and still growing the first time i tore my ACL.

Can't say in about the 10 years I raced that I have had any real bad crashes. The biggest crash I have had would have been landing on a guy's back wheel over a table top. We were catching a lapper and I thought the guy in front of me was still going to do the table top. It was third pinned on a 125, at the last minute he chops the throttle and I couldn't react in time, landed my front wheel on his back wheel, cut my back and shredded my jersey but that was it.
Worst injury would be a torn kidney from landing on a tyre bundle lining the track.
Worst recovery was broken hand and damaged ligaments in my arm from being run over in a first turn crash
