Loretta Lynn needs a new track

Raced there 3 years in a row. Once in C, and twice in B. Track sucks. Period. It's a supermini track. When little bikes are running laptimes the same as the fast B and A riders you know the track is absolute garbage.

Track flows like shit. Isn't impressive at all.


That being said, it's perfect to race that. Makes the true best man shine. Makes you ride outside of comfort. Don't change that track.

I don't know, people spend a $hit Load of money to race it, so there are plenty of people that want to race it. And before you say their sponsors require it, besides the top 10 in each class (if even that) how many of the riders are actually "sponsored"? Most of the riders have no true shot at being anything but a local hot shot.

My 1st trip to Loretta's was in 83. The main topic in the pit... " Man, this track sucks." Coming from Florida sand tracks, I know all about rough and flat tracks. I expect more from a "National" Championship track. You found one of the only level spots in Tennesee. Congrats

I've never seen LL this rough in my past 13 years of going. Such a brutal track that'll break anyone. The mogul sections are just plain terrifying at speed. Props to all who raced this week. True national championship track.

Mxsports will never move this race. they make too much money from having it at lorettas. I'm sure if they have it at another place they would have to split money with track owners or something along them lines.

Good responses, everyone. I vote for a new track design with half new track and half of the traditional stuff like 10 commandments, etc. No, it doesn't need huge jumps, just more real outdoor MX sections. And yes, I realize they are limited with space. I think it was a great track back in 1982, but times have changed.

Are you somehow under the assumption that the folks at Loretta Lynn's ranch allow them to host the race at their campground out of the goodness of their heart? I don't know what the ranch charges but I'd be willing to bet it's much more than MX Sports could pay if they went elsewhere.

Ya what is a real mx section?? Sand ✅, ruts✅, permits close racing✅, breaks down throughout day✅ No send it to the moon jumps✅ LL has all of it except elevation change. To me LL is damn near the picture perfect mx track. Today's mx tracks besides a few are big sx tracks. I have never raced nor been to LL but I like the rawness of it and I love the grass start!!

I would go so far as to say it may be too much of a test for most people. By watching the video that Davey posted of him riding his Grom around the track, you would never know what a nightmare of a track it turns into for all but the most fit.

Most average racers can't race for 20 minutes on a regular local track. Then you might as well double what it takes on the track at Loretta's. It may not be the prettiest track, but it gets the job done for letting the cream rise to the top like few tracks can.

Really...you're not understanding what I'm saying. People want to race the event, not the track. If it was a regular weekend, no one would show up.

I truly believe that the only reason people "want" to race there is because of that fact that it almost feels required to race if you want to try and get anywhere in motocross. I'd have to think most people going to Lorettas aren't doing it for the experience(unless you're in the vet classes). The parents are spending thousands so little Johnny can hopefully do well and attract the attention of sponsors and teams. Correct me if I am wrong, but that's what everyone I have talked to has told me.

On the flip side of your statement are those of us that are true amateur racers that just want to be able to say we did it at least once. The experience for a weekend warrior like myself is priceless and one of my most cherished moto memories. All that being said the track itself is not worthy of the event imho. Would I go again if they suddenly had a 60+ class? He'll yes!

While the track isn't fast by current measures, it's absolutely brutal and a true test of rider ability. Sure, it feels tight to ride on a big bike, but I believe it's a safe track for everyone while still testing you to the max. Here are some photos from this week.

I had one moto that was really rutted like that in 2013 and it was just a frigging survival test. It takes a lot of concentration and technique for sure but it ain't much fun.

I went and spent the week there in 2014. I did not ride it but did walk some of it and watched races all week, it does accomplish what mx sports wants to accomplish i think. I went to the back part of the property and I think there are other areas on that property to build the track itself if they were allowed and wanted too. From my prospective it wasn't a great track to spectate from and it didnt look fun to ride. Definitely narrow in my opinion. So, yes the track was disappointing but it accomplishes what they want.

Keep it as is. The track is fine for the purpose that it serves.

That being said, I agree with comments about the track not being fun. If a track like Pala and LL were both a 30min drive from my house, I'd go to Pala 99 times out of 100.

It's not a fun track to ride, but it's a fun venue to race.

I think it's perfect for an ametur national. I always thought it was designed with minis in mind first... and while it gets rough and gnarly, overall, it's a very safe track and a good test of who the best racer is.

The most challenging section to me was always the 10 commandments. This was late 80s, early 90s on minis. Those things just seemed huge back then and I could never find a rythmn. Watching the videos of the past few years, they appear tamed down a bit... but that could simply be my youthful memory compared to reality.

My favorite sections were the fast, whooped out areas around the "lake" and past the pit area. Just lean back and go WFO!!
