TBH i really cant understand how all the rider s dont hate Mathess. For us the fans he is great . I love his stuff 99% of the time . But he does cross the line some time s, ie , he posted about Tim Gajser Dad being an A hole . then under it wrote ,i dont know i never met him ,I just heard someone say it . IMO why print that then (thats gossip ) . When Tim comes over he ll be wondering why he wont talk to him, Just like CP etc . People here are like riders should just man up and not care what he writes . Why ! People will say its not personal .(its professional) Well sorry calling someones dad an A hole is personal and deff not professional . Again what he does is great for us (the fans ) But i can really understand someone like Anderson and other s who block him .
+ aloooot, i cant imagine putting all that work in and some dude who doesnt even know me goes, "meh, i dont like him." and proceeds to write a lot of negative shit about me. calling someone out on a bad race isnt negative at all, but to me all matthes did when he talked about JA was "blah blah crazy riding style blocked me on instagram". i really like matthes, but the dude was so butthurt about a block on instagram lmao

I like both guys, and see both sides.

Hopefully El Hombre comes on Pulp and they squash it.

I like mathes he calls it as he see's it, straight forward unbiased approach.
Hmm, can see by Matthes calling out the Husky team manager, that he calls it as HE see's it, no the facts.

Dead on. The riders that won't come on his show or talk to him, because of his opinion are cry babies. I like Anderson, and Barcia, but good lord does that make them look like little girls. Wah, a reporter said something bad about me, I'll block him and not talk to him. Grow the F up and act like men. So what, a guy made an unfavorable comment. Go on there like a MAN and discuss it. His job is to make comments about the sport. I'm sure he's said plenty of things at the spur of the moment that he'd probably like to take back. It happens when your job is in front of a microphone and you're trying to entertain.

Quit being babies! Go on the show and discuss your differences like men. It makes you look better, and good for your sponsors!

Who gives a shit – if Anderson doesn't like Matthes he doesn't have to engage with him. It's not like Ando is pulling a Trump and blacklisting Matthes from writing or talking about him.

Was he asking a question, or giving his opinion? really don't want to hear a Journalist's opinion on anything, I understand Matthes is just trying to bench race like we all do, but remember he is trying to entertain and boost his ratings too, so there is a motive behind what he says...

And I do think some riders, like many other people are way too sensitive...

These riders really should have thicker skin. The most negative of things Steve Matthes writes pales in comparison to the things said and written about other professional athletes. They're paid to ride dirt bikes professionally and some negative criticism unfortunately comes with that.

I'm an Anderson fan for sure but Matthes is right in his response. These guys don't want truthful reporting, they want everyone to be an "industry bro" and tell them how elite they are.

My son had some peers say some mean stuff about him last year. I told him to get over it.

Oh yeah, my son is 8 years old.

I think the problem is that Matthes will say all this shit online then try to "bro down" with them and doesn't dare to criticise them as harshly when he's speaking to them in person. I like most of his stuff, but he does talk lots of shit about riders, a lot of the time for entertainment purposes, and then acts like the innocent victim when something gets flung back at him. There are other journalists who criticise certain things about riders while remaining respectful, this sport is so small you can't really be a douche online then expect all the athletes to be friendly to you.

Maybe, but there is a difference between talking shit and repeating what he has been told.

Example of talking shit: "Ha, this guys is probably going to loop out and finish 30th, he sucks"
Example of repeating what he was told: "Word is, rider ___ hasn't been putting in the work and will have a tough time finding a good team next year."

(Those examples have nothing to do with Jason)

Right but this day in age people are so sensitive and irrational that anything negative is thought of as "talking shit".

Agreed, that's a personal problem on their end though. In the end, don't worry about hurting peoples feelings because there are so many pussys out there that it is bound to happen. Laughing

And there are plenty of times where Matthes stuff is closer to your first example.

I think the motocross media needs to remember two things:

1) The riders/teams need them far more than they need the riders/teams.

2) It's more important that the fans of the sport like what the media is doing than the riders/teams.

Moto media is so backwards...the media is so afraid of making someone mad, and losing access that all they do is brown nose and walk on egg shells and all we fans get is this watered down version of "reporting". That's backwards.

I think Matthes gets this...the fans love him, and he's more concerned with keeping the fans happy than the riders (which is why he's the only one that will say anything that will make a rider mad). He understands his roll in the sport.

He's got to be the most popular journalist in the sport (his stuff is the only stuff I "can't miss" every week)...I think riders/teams should be afraid that he'll stop talking about them because they NEED that exposure. And he's not afraid to say what he wants because he knows that riders/teams need his exposure.

Keep up the good work Steve!

You really think the teams and riders need the exposure Matthes provides? You are delusional. Matthes wouldn't have a job if not for the teams/riders, you couldn't say that the teams and riders would suddenly lose all their jobs if Matthes wasn't around
