Get off my lawn! Come on people! They have to pay for the TV time slot, they pay for this with the Kawasaki track map, the Fram cam etc... I love the coverage, beats delayed replays.

Maybe when the ratings are high enough to get paid for the TV Rights we won't need these sponsored segments. Until then, enjoy the FramCam, Kawasaki Track map and whatever else generates revenue.

I actually enjoyed the coverage.

But i'll agree with the onboard camera thing, that angle is absolutely cringe worthy.

Yes it was edited but we got to see way better coverage. They had the gate for the first moto drop in the first two minutes of coverage. Two 125 motos first hour. 2 250 motos second hour.

If I remember right they showed it later the same day. Don't really see the advantage of live coverage anyway. I don't really want to watch TV on Saturday afternoon.

I don't remember coverage in the 80s. But do remember Wide World of Sports. Carlsbad GP. I think they aired it 6 months later at Christmas time. What was cool though is that every kid in my 6th grade class in 1974 that never heard of Motocross came to school on Monday morning and new who Roger DeCoster and Brad Lackey were and they all wanted to get in on Dirt Bikes.

I agree with others on the on board camera. Its very distracting while try to watch the race. Please stop it.
This, don't need to see it live, heck that may be even taking fans away. Show it Sat night in a 2.5 hour time slot, both motos of both classes on same channel in HD. Those that want to waste their Sat afternoon hook up with an internet feed.

The features mid way through the race are crazy. Sometimes I get it, the racing can get a little uneventful and they go to a feature to fill the void but when the lead position is being battled for corner by corner, I don't want to see some pre made video or learn about how a tear off works.

Someone should make the decision based on the racing that is going on.

America is too used to commercials and accepts them as part of every day life but they are excessive in this country, especially when we pay a lot for our TV subscriptions compared to the my experience in Europe.

I'm fine with the onboard view in small doses. And I don't really have any complaints other than:

...seeing the whole thing on one channel in HD would be great.

...maybe some flashbacks/video of who won at each venue 10, 20, and 30 years ago, if applicable, would be great.

To those that just want to watch the relay: I'm sure you can find a thread about that, or create one. Given the TV time available and all commercials, the coverage most weekends is decent. The producers manage to find the battles and replay important sequences, but this last weekend they either had bad luck, or the producer were drunk because they somehow avoided to follow up any of the action. I stand by my opinion, this was the worst coverage I have seen and I usually see most of them since years back..

I've seen loads of complaints about the TV coverage for the Nationals and have ignored them all until now - today I must have had one coffee too many :-) I really don't understand what people have to complain about with the coverage, which IMO gets better each year in terms of production value, commentators, editing, replays etc etc. I can sit on my sofa and watch all four motos live in HD streamed over the internet on my big telly. Then, if I go out I can pull up the NBC Live Extra app on my phone or iPad and still watch the races live over my cell network. And, what's more, if I miss the races entirely I can watch the full motos on the Pro Motocross site from Sunday.

But, and here's the kicker, how much extra do I pay for all this on top of my normal cable sports package? Sweet FA! Yep, absolutely zero nothing. And if I didn't have the cable package then I think I could watch the first motos live free (and the second motos later on the Pro Motocross site, of course).

I just don't understand what people want when it comes to the TV package - there will always be purists who want to see every lap of every moto and every pass and every crash etc etc but that's just not realistic. Also, I'm amazed that we get to see the races live on TV at all given how niche the sport is. I'm pretty sure motocross is barely a blip on the Nielsen ratings, paling into insignificance with other sports. Hell, I bet the Coney Island hot dog eating contest garners more viewers than motocross lol!

Rant over. I'll get back to watching the full motos from Southwick now since I missed them this weekend as I was racing myself.

Agreed that this race coverage was terrible.

I was at Southwick and the race was amazing. I was excited to get home to watch the moto broadcast and see the rest of the track that I couldn't see from my vantage point. Once I watched the race I was so disappointed about the timing of the holeshot replay, the holeshot from the previous moto, the Fram tech tips, etc. The best racing of the year was interrupted so many times, even to watch a battle in 4th place...

Embarrassing.

Been in more than a few TV trucks and one producer always liked to remind the crew ... "We're only selling soap boys." Sponsors pay the bills.

That said I feel they should be more aware of what the viewers ( i.e. the customer ) thinks of the production. The animated track maps are often so far off from the real track layout they are almost doing a disservice to the viewer. The cringe cam was this week's gimmick shot and looked like bad TV from the get-go. I don't mind them trying out something new for a bit but someone should have pulled the plug on that one a lot sooner.

Question for the US team - how is it the Canuck crew always seem to be able to catch every battle on the track in their Canadian MX series coverage but the US crew can't ... and often stays far too long on some lone rider circulating the track while a battle rages at the front or elsewhere?

One small thing I have always wished for is a quick overhead or long shot of each track just to get some idea of the overall layout. Some of these tracks I've been watching for years and still have no idea of what the entire layout looks like.

Would also love to see a graphic tool for the commentators to pinpoint selected riders on the start or going into the 1st turn.

I think there are two different complaints being voiced here. Quality vs. quantity. My gripe is with the quality. I don't need to be told how they score moto twice. I don't need to watch the track map after watching it the first time, THEN sitting through the whole 450 moto, then when they play the 250 moto, I gotta see it again. Same for 2nd motos. So in 4 motos I see the track map 4 times and am told how motos are scored 4 times. That's 48x per outdoor season! I got it the first 10 times. No other sport/tv program treats their viewers like 8yr olds. I take that back. Actually FS1 has ruined NHRA too. They have a recipe. Product placement naming lanes, and the sponsors must love it.

The shows are way too pre-scripted. Ok...today we're going to do the JGR segment and talk about Joe and Coy Gibbs. Did you know they're in NASCAR? And this is all while there is a raging battle for position. It's 25 after the hour, we need the filler crap. Don't mind what's happening live. Oh, then they go on about the upcoming nascrap race. They probably thing they're genius. Man, those knuckle dragging motorbikers don't know they've been fooled.

I understand the need for the commercials and filler. Just sneak them in without ruining the races.
