I was talking to a guy at one of the local tracks and his son was suppose to be testing Yamahas R&D YZ 65. Unfotantly his kid got hurt and was unable to do so.
I was just at the Yamaha shop today and I ask one of the sales rep there and he confirmed it. Yamaha is diffently coming out with a YZ 65 and they can be out as early as September of this year. The reason they haven't come out with the other 2017 model because it's still in the R&D phase. I can not wait when my son moves up to a 65, he diffently going to be on blue when that time comes. I also ask about a possible 50 cc motocross bike and they said there is no plan for one. There sticking with the PW 50.

Also, salesmen at dealerships are generally the most clueless folks in the motorcycle industry, especially when it comes to MX bikes.
They did say at the end of the event that there would be further model announcements later this year (dirt and street)...

As far as a YZ65? it is to late in the game for them to bother. KTM and Kawi have what is left of that market covered.
I'm thinking Cobra 65.
Pit Row
Its worthless to get kids on a 65 only to have their parents dump the brand because the KX/SX 85/100 are so much stronger than the YZ85.
Honda, believing they could set new rules themselves ( and they succeeded in many jurisdictions) went for 150cc, near to the ratio set by the 450 4t v 250 2t rules. Thankfully , in many jurisdictions, it was not allowed, or was later, disallowed.
There are few things more piss poor / pathetic, than seeing the 'Manufacturers Trophy' being presented to Honda representatives on the podium for the Honda 150 cup races, at the GPs. Some of the receivers of that farcical trophy, have rather sheepish looks as they receive it. Talk about promoters sucking up to a company....... Mind you, the series represents incredible value, both money wise (costs) and rider exposure wise, for the competitors. There are some benefits from a company creating their own racing class
As to Yamaha doing a new 65 - well how could it be anything other than good news? Another viable alternative to the KTMs, Kawasakis and Cobras would be a great addition.
I wonder if that's what KTM thought when introducing the KTM65 against the established KX65
Your never to late to the game. Unless it finished ;-)
"Oh that's entirely to expensive." I laugh and I'm like don't you drive a Porsche ?
If people with 265,000 a year plus income think it's expensive they must think the small fish making 40,000-65,000 a year and racing are probably insane.
Would be cool to see more 65s in the market. And at a competitive rate. It's seems it is so hard to get new people in he sport. Ciancarulo parents never raced. Hard to find parents to commit to that!
Time will tell. Someone mentioned changing the the yz85 before they explore the 65. Probably a great idea.
