What type of music would you like to see more of in edits?

Good thread. I'm also hoping to edit and upload some moto videos during this summer.

I think the punk/metal/rock definitely appeals to the fans of the sport, as well as most action sports. Fuck the dubstep, none of those who seriously listen and praise it would search for motocross anyway.

Find up and coming punk bands with a more commercial sound.
I like Sløtface. Saw them live on saturday. Good energy and great vibes.

In the end, choose something that fits, and that you like yourself. No matter what you do, it'll always be better if you can dig it yourself!

If you ride a 4stroke, put the sound of an 2stroke over it, just like they did in the terminator. "I'll be back"

Classic rock. Those Trans Am TWMX videos with Led Zeppelin really get my goat.

Variety. You will notice most of the major companies do not stick to one genre, they mix it up quite a bit to fit the video

The problem with a question like this is that there is no objective measure to what is "good" music to put in moto edits. Music is a subjective experience so everyone has there own idea of "good" and "bad"

My advice to you would to use whatever you find fitting and make sure it makes sense the vibe of the video and scenery.

To be clear, I don't listen to dubstep but in most of my favorite moto movies it seems a mix of rock, rap, and dubstep is the usual on the different segments depending of the theme of the segment.

Terrafirma 2, opening sequence and McGrath at Castillo Ranch.....unbeatable.

In response to the op, plenty of punk rock, that's moto
Hands down the best sequence in ANY MX video (aside from On Any SUnday).

Find music that fits your footage. There's no typical genre that's better than the other, sometimes rock music works and sometimes hip/hop music works. The song choice is pretty important for a good video, and no that should not be your favourite punk rock song. Plus, editing a video to a song you don't like is really annoying.

This is a dubstep song, something I would never listen but fits the vibe of the video perfect.

Complete opposite of the Barcia video, but again it fits the vibe of the video.

Even though I don't understand a word, it completes the video..

+1. No need to put music on a MX vid. If so, it must be absolutely less than 25% of the vid time. If a % of people enjoy listening music while watching MX, they can add it separately. An idea would even be to have 4 soundtracks for the same video, and you can chose the one you prefer (electro, metal, rap, pop rock).

For me, still the best MX vid' on youtube channels are most of the time great races or moments with commentators on. The only videos I liked with music on was TP "do you want it", Tortelli "this is my last resort", CP "nirvana", a few of JMB, a few of Stewart on 125 with some rap/r&b, or with "this is why I am hot", "we are champions" or "hurricane fresh" + the "cash machine" vid of the MXdN 2006. Only 10 vid' with songs I liked out of a few thousands I watched.

I may be biased, but I think the pure aggression and brutality of MX lends itself more to Hard Rock and Metal.

Watch the video "What Up". In my opinion it has the best sound track of any moto video I have ever seen. Mostly punk cos most of the video is fast paced, but when they did a segment of an outdoors race there was lots of slow mo and they used a heavier song and it worked really well.

I may be biased as this was the first moto movie I ever owned and introduced me to punk as a 12 year old kid but it still gets me pumped. My 4 and 6 year old love it too

I will be biaised on that one since I really like this song but also because my older brother received him and his father in his home, a couple years ago, when this DJ was not topping the chart list in France since a couple of months. Really good people he told me.

I don't dislike the track necessarily, I could just tell it was a French sound as soon as it started and the theme/cinematography of the video similar to other French music videos - it made me think of Modjo's Lady (hear me tonight) for example.

I like French house music in general, like Cassius and everything Thomas Bangalter puts out etc. That guy's a genius.
