At what point would Roczen stay at Suzuki/RCH?

No chance. Ricky and Honda are not exactly best friends.

I always thought it was pretty clear he is leaving because of the team rather than the bike.

Seeing a Honda with a number 1 on it in the nationals will take me all the way back to the 96 Nationals and McGrath! (Since RC never ran the number one on a Honda...well, I think he did his last race for them, right?) Nostalgia!
Close, he ran the number 1 in the 2nd moto at Glen Helen on his last ride with Honda

He's finally got his Suzuki dialed in and working great for him. Why change now? Unless there's more money involved, I don't think a change can improve his performance as of late.

As a matter of fact I believe they did involve money in the deal.

He's contracted to RCH through September 30th. He's contracted to Honda from October 1st on. I assume he could get out of it if he really wanted but I doubt RCH could come up with the difference in money if they couldn't before. He's in the prime earning window of his career. No way this deal isn't about money. The longer term nature of the deal suggests to me he's committed to making it work. He won't have to make a decision on a new team a year after he joins the team like he would a 2 year deal.

Honda has made some stupid money choices in the past...but they also haven't had anyone even close to a US championship in years, and sad to say...Canard & Seely are not going to get it done. If Michael is right (he usually is), and the deal is done, you can bet Honda put some crazy money on the table to make it happen. They have a history of "buying championships".
I've never understood how people say Honda "buys" championships?

Isn't every top pro out there essentially paid to win? How is this any different?

Tomac went to Kawi after every manufacturer wanted him. Does Kawi "buy championships"? Barcia was a hot commodity when he signed with JGR. Every top free agent at Roczen's level is going to be in demand from all of the various teams and they will give out their best offer. Honda is no different than any of the others

Did KTM "buy" all these championships the past few years when the got Dungey from Suzuki? It's pro racing. People get paid to win championships

RCH Honda, maybe. Or it could be RCH Kawasaki, either way it wont be Roczen riding it.

Yes Kawi is trying to buy a championship with Tomac.

Honda will try to up the deal with Roczen and a championship with him.

What's wrong with that?

It is more than just the money I would imagine for Kenny. Honda is in the middle of a revamp on the racing program. It is evident with the availability of both suspension companies along with the multitude options that Honda obviously has available to try. Tons of upside with the deal.

It's not that hard, it's either Honda hasn't always had a history of bringing guys up... and/or they've bought them in after they have proven to be champions and are really likely to be again....

RC. (Kawi to Honda)
RJ. (Yamaha to Honda)
George Holland. (Suzuki to Honda)
The Dogger (Yamaha to Honda)

Probably some more and now Kenny... hell they tried like buggery to get James!

Did KTM do it? Absolutely, but when they do it another 5 or so times, people will start saying its habitual... But then again they have more of an amateur program now. You probably won't hear it as much with Honda because of Geico which has produced 6 titles since 08?

Because Honda had never had an amature program. Honda is happy to let Kawasaki and Yamaha bring riders thru their formative years and roll in when they are the sure thing and sign them. At least back when they were dominate that's how they played it. The last decade or so they seem to be uninterested. They seem to lose interest then one day wake up and just start throwing money at something. No telling how much money they have in Rally now that they want to win Dakar. A non production based bike specifically designed to win one race. Things like that make people say they buy championships.

honestly, why would anyone care about brand loyalty? the riders are the first to be dismissed if they are not performing good enough anymore. sport is a business in the first place and entertainment in second place.

It's obvious he's going to leave Suzuki, if he were staying he would have resigned by now. But 12 mil over 5 years? That's 2.4 million/year, which is 600,000 less than Suzuki is (supposedly) currently paying him.
I believe the move to Honda, but I don't believe these numbers.

I think the mere prospect of a 5 year deal is the clincher for KR not what brand he is on...suffice to say HRC's involvement now probably helped clinch it too....with a great rider (no disrespect intended to CS or TC) on the team can only be a good thing for Honda

Honda are probably pretty damn happy hes doing well in the Nationals.

Thats a bit harsh, Suzuki and KTM dont have one either...you could argue Hondas Geico amateur programme is strong as well....but anyway look any brand is going to sign what rider they want, and it is up to the rider what brand they race for....ET went to Kawasaki for LESS money that what Honda offered, so therefore by your reckoning Kawasaki buy riders!
