Frankly, I don't care if he ever lines up for a national level race again (although it'll be nice if he does), as long as he stays clean, and riding a dirt bike stays fun. Good luck, Nico, you always struck me as a good dude who got wrapped up in a shitty situation.

My case was much easier than Nico`s. I had problem with alcohol, no drugs involved.

I was producing the Pulp show a few weeks ago when Steve had the guy behind Sick Recovery Racing on, He called Travis and told him what he was planning and Travis wrote a check for 5 or $10,000, can't remember the exact number, but Travis stepped up no questions asked from what I remember.
wow! good on him! that really does say a lot about his character. hell of a nice thing for him to do for sure!

Everyone likes a positive story, hopefully he can stay on the straight and narrow regardless of how the riding goes. Hats off to Pastrana as well, don't get a better role model than that guy

Alcohol is as much a drug as heroin or any other narcotic. Symptoms are different...but addiction is addiction. Congrats on your sobriety time, Kongols. Coming up on 20-years here, and with the alcohol came some chemicals as well.

The deal is, addiction doesn't mean you're a weak person or a slacker...it just means you're human. It can happen to anybody. Good to see the haters off this thread who have no idea about addiction...and therefore have no compassion.

Congrats to Nico on getting clean, it will be a tough SOB for a while but training and riding will help through the fight for sure. Beat my drug addiction in 96', just keep moving forward and you will make it through.

I've always heard that if you have an addiction, you'll never get rid of the fact that you're addicted to something. You just need to find a way to replace your bad addiction with a good addiction. I hope Nico has found that being addicted to dirt bikes is much more fun/satisfying/safe than being addicted to drugs.

Pulling for ya, Nico, one day at a time...

Just a suggestion, I'd like to see Kevin Kolb from Sick Recovery Racing here for a QNA. You never know, if it helps even one more person get some insight into starting the road to recovery, it's worth it...

Was not directing my post at anyone. Was just hoping to keep this thing positive. If you have never walked that road you have no say in the matter. Nico is in a fragile state and I guarantee you he's aware of this thread. Pull him up don't push him back down. Stay strong brother!

Unfortunately...you seem to lack a grasp on what addiction is, and what it is to be addicted. The truth is, that most who are addicted have tried the "NEVER do it again" method many, many times...because they desperately want to stop. Stopping simply by putting the drug down and "NEVER doing it again" is not nearly as easy as it sounds, for someone who has a problem

Actually what resetjet said is a popular phrase in some recovery circles. In other words, you dont have to quit, just dont start back. Helps make the "forever" issue more palpable. The quit forever concept can be very daunting, especially for people new in recovery.

I was fortunate enough to do a short stint of training with Nico back in the day and can say that these standout kids have a life that is much different than you'd expect. It seems so glamorous from the outside looking in, but it's not all that it seems.

The pressure and attention they receive is crazy. It's a different life being a teenager growing up in a motorhome, too. People would continuously burn them throughout the years. There's just numerous things that have impacted Nico that many will never know.

I'm not making excuses from him, but I'm just giving some perspective to anyone that thinks an elite rider shouldn't have lows.

Also, incase you all don't know, Nico's talent is insane. He can do things on a bike that will surprise pretty much anyone.

I haven't talked to him in years, but if you're reading this buddy, I'm pulling for you. Just get back to the basics of having fun on the bike and you'll be great. Do everything for yourself and your family, no one else matters. Keep fighting everyday, that's all that anyone could ever ask.

Best of luck to Nico. You're a young man still and you have a lot of life ahead of you. Stay strong and take it one day at a time.

Exactly, addiction is addiction and anything that is mood altering falls into that category. Congrats on close to 20 years, I know there had to be tough times to get this far, I'm pushing around 18 years, I thought Mr. Jack Daniel was my best friend but Jack slowly fugged life up Sick The world didn't change its ways for me, so I had to change my ways and adapt, to be honest, I don't miss Jack at all any more and the rotten sumbitch just lives down the road. Anyway, back to Nico, I wish him all the best. Oh, and props to Travis P.

If that's what resetjet meant...my apology.

I guess I've been out of recovery circles long enough that I forgot the "Just for today...don't drink or get high" mentality. Recovery is, for a lot of people a "just for today" program...and that's ok, as long as it keeps them sober. And, I know it's not a popular thing here...but, I have to give God all the credit for the past 20-years of living clean & sober. The only people I know that have stayed happily clean & sober for a lot of years are those who find strength in a higher power or a God of their understanding. It's just too gnarly a deal to do on your own...at least I couldn't.

Yes, this ^. Hope he can stay clean and avoid injury.

For future injuries he will need to be treated low. Monitored very frequently to make sure it's only pain they're relieving. But it's possible. Just Need a good support system.

Many will use a non narcotic pain reliever such as Ultram, but if it is necessary to use an opiate, the patient will be monitored closely, and possibly receive some type of counseling to help decrease the chances of relapsing. Taking more of the medicine than is prescribed, or taking it sooner than prescribed, constitutes a relapse.
Most people that get hooked on pain meds are dealing with mental pain as well as physical pain. Either way addiction sucks and I hope he is able to win his battle.

Should get Nico to do a Forum Q&A.

Could shed a lot of light on an areas of our sport we don't tend to talk about.

Really glad to see so much positive and supportive feedback from everyone. I also will be cheering for him because it's always nice to see a guy getting his act together after a few mistakes. Good for Nico to see there are a lot of people who want to see him succeed as well. Cheers to everyone.

If you guys want to do a Q & A with Kevin and/or Nico I can let them know and get it setup if GuyB wants to. I made them a vital account a few weeks back already.

Great idea, it would be good insight for us, and if it would play out half as well as the MA Q&A it would hopefully give Nico positive vibes and more MOTOvation. I'm sure if Guyb can make it happen, he will.

I've been a big fan of Nico's since I saw his Inside the Outdoors that aired 2013-ish. I've been worried about him the last couple years. Nothing is better than a great comeback (even a comeback off the bike). I'm hoping Nico can kick this for good and have a hugely successful and happy life. Go 341 !!!!!
