Who has worn both models and is the cost difference justified? I have the SG10's and love them.

Please, this is not a debate on various brands, just specific to Gaerne.

Thanks for any real experience input.

12's are worth the money. i had 10's for many years until i ponied up for the 12's. you won't be disappointed!

I went from the 10's....which I loved
to the 12's...which I love even more.....don't understand why they are even more comfortable.
They also seem to have a smaller exterior profile....might just be me though.
If money were no object...I'd go for the 12's

Gaerne has a newer version of the SG10 out. You'll see previous (2015) models on clearance shortly. I do have some boots listed on my website below if you're interested in Gaerne.

A friend was wearing 10s and bought 12s. He likes the 10s better. I am wearing SG11s and I like them, but they didn't break in as quick as the SG10s I had (well actually still have).

SG12 all day long, I had SG10s got some 12s 2 years ago and would never go back, so much better ankle support. Bobs Cycle has killer deals on them right now too. I highly recommend the SG12

I ran a set of 10's for a while. Figured they lasted a while, so why not spend the $ on the 12's. I much preferred the 10s. The toe box on the 12 is bigger than on the 10's, i found myself having to raise my shift lever. Overall after 10-12 rides in the 12's they never quite felt as good as the 10's did as far as feel on the shifter and brake. I picked up a set of instincts and like them way better than the 12's. I should of jsut stuck with SG10's to begin with.

FWIW, I havent weighed them, but the 12's seem to be heavy.

Fairly heavy compared to other brands. Size 10's are around 9lbs 9.7oz while size 12's run 9lbs 13.7oz.

I have a pair for sale....$270.00. I've worn them 4 times. Size 9.

I like them a lot however I have 2 pair of SG10 that have a lot of life left in them. These are just sitting collecting dust.

I had been a big fan of the 10's, spent the extra money for the 12's, and the soles wore out way fast on them. Maybe i had a lemon pair, but my SG10's got 3 times the life. This was 2011-ish. A buddy of mine had the same experience at that time, and never went back to the 12's.

How do they run size wise? I wear a size 8-8.5 in street shoes, had Alpinestars Tech 8 size 8, one pair fit fine but the pair I have now fits tight.

Fit was spot on. Not sure how you would fare, maybe try a new pair on and check...IMO you'd be fine, but I'm selling.

I had several pair of SG10's over the years and just recently switched to SG12's.

They seem like good, solid boots but I'm not really blown away by them. I'd have no qualms about going back to SG10's at all. Also, coming from SG10's that require little to no break in time, the SG12's were surprisingly stiff initially.

This is the newest version of the sg-12. Notice the shift patch is black. Older ones are white, see pic above. Anyways the 10 is bigger in the foot area. I bought the 10, 11, and 12 all at once to compare! Honestly! The 12 for me was the supieior boot. Everything better from grip to support. I usually wear 8.5 or 9 regular street shoe. Gaerne size 8. Their European sizes seem accurate as I'm a 41.5 to 42 and the Garne size 8 is a 42. SG-10 and 11 are a single hinge. 12 is dual hinge.

I'll be damned. Until now I didn't even know they made an SG11? I've had a pair of SG10's going on two years and I love them " Now ".....but damn it , after I bought them , they were so damn stiff I kept burning my rear brake pads and hitting false neutrals on my bike. Damn near ended me a couple times and I almost sold them. Now though , after they got broken in , I love em!

I am very happy with mine . If I had to complain the only complaint would be is they are skeeky to walk in .

I've only worn gaerne the past like 10 years, and YES they are well worth the difference. The 12s are night and day better than the older 10s. Difference was especially noticed in the ankle and hinge. gaernes to me have been the longest lasting when concerned with durability and the absolute quickest to break in. Wont ever ride on anything else
