Riders you wanted to ride like

JMB.
When I first started racing i crashed my brains out constantly. After crushing T-6 vertebra, I decided it was time for a change. I spent hours and hours slowing dwn, trying to be smooth and calculated. Then I tried to speed it back up.

I've posted this pic before, but now the truth about it is coming out. The first rider I tried to emulate was Skip Van Leeuwen.

Sammy Tanner used to make Van Leeuween look like a novice.

Hey, the "Flying Flea" and his Goldstar were hot on the 1/2 mile but Skip could rule his ass on a TT track. He owned the old Ascot 100 lapper.

Like Bobby; never copied, but admired Malcolm Smith, Lackey, Pomeroy. Local, Jerome Heiberger and Dave Coupe; both so smooth. Yeah Bob, Lesniewski a goody; Don Ferraro and Dana Waxham thought were on the shtick. Can't forget Magoo. Tryin' son of a gun. Bobby was a tough, but exacting type. Muscled his way, yet hit every line just right. Remind me of McKenna.
As well as Bailey/Lechien for their effortlessness. RJ for his "he man" way he rode hard and his natural ability.
Bradshaw was my prob all time fav. If I had even half his talent; I may have gotten somewhere because I had that work ethic thing.

Mullet, Fox Zebra pants/Jersey and the famous No. 45 YZ 125....
Without a major championship he is still a fan and rider favorite after all these years...
Won 9 SX main events in one year against JMB and Stanton.
He broke the bank for too many riders.
Bradshaw is the greatest motocross racer of all time.

Never tried to copy anyones style, just tried to get my bike to go faster.I used to ride with Donnie Hansen and a guy named Mike shumaker when I was a little guy. One was ridiculously smooth and the other had great corner speed. I would watch them and try to match their movement. everyone said I had the style of a wilder Johnny O. Just wish I had his speed

when i was a kid for me it was Hannah, RJ, and Wardy as i was more close in stature to him. when i got back in to dirt bikes a few years ago RC of course...

Holcomb was one of the Moore & Sons Husky guys right? Who was the other guy from SC on the Husky, Jeff Watts?

mike marquez was a cool dude that rode those.

Jeff Watts, Mike Marquez and Rob Stuart all on those 125 Husky's from Moore and Sons; Santa Cruz. Good ol' days. Reminds me of Watsonville and they frequented Plymouth as well.
Marquez the last time I saw him race was at Mammoth '90 when he was in front of me in Vet Pro race...Thought Watts may have been there too, remember lots of ol' 70's riders racing that day.

Brian Myerscough for me.

Funny, I remember getting Brian's autograph after his Saddleback National win and wondering how someone could go that fast on a 125cc .

When I got to "hang" with Brian a few years ago at the OTHG races, he was still one of "coolest MOFO's" around.

That 78 390CR was one of the sweetest bikes ever from Husqvarna.
Goat used to tear it up in SoCal on one.

Hannah, On the tank, elbows out and fannin' the clutch, though Howerton invented that to keep his aging Husky up with the Jap bikes.

Jim Hunter, Jim RIce and Keith Mashburn when I first went to Perris and Elsinore.Then I saw a mag about our National guys racing the Euro's and I discovered Robert and Decoster and Geboers and the Swedes. But seeing Robert in person at Saddleback at the 1st InterAM or Trans Am, the one that that they were filming for On Any Sunday I wanted to emulate Robert. Stand tall pin it. That was an amzing race.

I was never a Honda guy, but when I saw Marty Smith on an open bike at Mt Morris back in the 70's, that was it for me.

The guy defined smooth.

I wanted to ride like Heikki Mikkola!
