I disagree that opioids are a necessary prescription. I don't want to make this sound like I'm Mr. gone through everything guy but here's a quick little rundown. I have broken 20 bones, finally did a c-6 c-7 burst fracture in my neck 18 years ago. I was hospitalized for seven months and paralyzed from the tits down for a period of that time until I "loosened up" my right side ended up getting better, pretty much full mobility and strength. My left side limps badly and my left hand is pretty much paralyzed. Throughout all of that, and with the limp I have severe pain and inflammation through my right side and I never took the opioids that have been prescribed to me.... I've got perks in my house, I literally might take one three times a year for what I would call a pain vacation.... But nobody needs them. That's bullshit. If you got intolerable pain go for a nerve pain blocker such as Lyrica. All these guys that are on the shit, these opioids.... It's nothing that Tylenol and advil won't really do.... I think a lot of dudes just like to be fucked up on the shit. It feels great let's call a spade a spade here. Anyhow that's my ramble. I think people are weak, sometimes you just have to tough it out like I do every day !
I would like to hear more about this Lyrica, I thought it was a more potent gabapentin. Which doesn't do anything for pain when I used it. Pain management is one thing, but the dudes taking heroin, like was said before, are in it for the psyche high to "feel" normal. It is a depressing thing for me to see kids/racers I know go down this road. But, in their defense, the transition is not too far removed from the "high" we all get from riding mx. I can't stop riding, and i am glad it is legal,

People get hooked on oxy's etc.
Government makes them harder (more expensive) to get so kids had to turn to heroin to get their opiate fix.

So now people have a felony and can't get a job.

So what are they supposed to do now?

Check out our system over here .......

Just like your crazy system how weed it legal in one state and illegal in the next.

It's just going to get worse.
So it's the government's fault he has a felony record for heroin? Seriously grow the fuck up

This thread really makes my feel like shit. I hate hearing about it , as I've lost three friends to this heroin shit! FUCK!

About 5yrs ago I posted this thread. I lost one before it and one after. Makes me sick to my stomach.

Jeffro, just read your thread about Brad. It was before my time here but I'm sorry for your loss. I hope his kids are doing well.

Just listened to stroupe on the pulp mx show earlier today and he sounded like he was using something. Steve, Travis and Adam all seemed to feel the same. What do you do...
Thank you AJ for the kind words. I still stay in contact with his ex-wife and both kids at least once a year. It's been a little less frequent than that over this past 2 yrs though. But they are doing extremely well. His ex , Jackie is a great gal and has been dating a new guy going on the past couple years and he seems like a really good dude. Both boys grew up a lot over these past few years and have become very good young men. Good grades , polite and very smart.

I still think about Brad often and on the things he left behind. Any time someone that passes , usually leaves a family behind , and don't seem to realize that it affects everyone around them. I think it was a very selfish act and wished he would of listened to the people who cared about him. I loved Brad a lot as my friend , but I still get angry knowing he did a very selfish thing. He refused to admit he had a problem and never got help , even when everyone who cared about him offered it many , many times.

Every time I hear about someone even getting into the heroin and pain pills.....most don't have any clue as to the dark and lonely road it's taking them down , until it's too late.

Unfortunately, IMO, if the guy makes it to 35 I'll be surprised.

A few of us at work are into moto.
One of the guys made a run at it, said he rode the same circles, the same tracks as this guy.
Said he had it.
Would show up for practice 2 hrs late, roll out if the truck, grab a bottle of water, get his shit together,
and totally blow everyone off the track.

Weed and heroin, he ain't looking for med replacement, he's out having fun.
Nothing any of you guys can do, nothing you can say, he's gonna run his life as he sees fit.

And quit with the bleeding heart stuff.
It's not because his father left, or he was an only child, blah blah blah.

He does it, well, because he likes it.

I'd like to know how and through whom these racers are getting the stuff. Or is it just easy to get these days? Usually it's people you meet that get you going down these roads. It's not like you wake up one day and say "think I'll find a heroin dealer today and give it a try." Usually it is offered by somebody.

Exactly!!!!!

But no...let's hear more from the bleeders about how he needs to "get well", and who's fault it is with no blame laid on the party boy himself! You can see his trip thru insta over the last number of years....get ripped, lay back, headphones on and recite lil wheezy lyrics and talk like a hood rat on social media! Poooor Austin, "the system let him down" "get well, drugs are a bitch"...fuck that! Party on man.

I was afraid to open this thread simply because I had the same thoughts as most after Stroupe was on the pulp show. I have had someone very close to me get mixed up with Heroin and will never forget the day picking them up from the hospital only to head right to court. Witnessing it happen to someone so close to me I can see how unreal addicting this stuff is and how incredibly hard it is to kick. I am very thankful to say the person in my life was able to overcome it but it was one hell of a nasty battle to do so. Only possibly due to their strength and an absolute ton of support from family and friends.

I wish Stroupe the best, and truly hope he can clean up, but this is a fight much harder than anything he will ever see on the track.

Lyrica is very similar to gabapentin. Peoples chemical makeups are different so while one may work for a person the other one wont and vice versa. It is scheduled though.

Both meds take up to six weeks before they have an ideal plasma concentration. A lot of people take them as needed for pain but they dont work thst way. But the mind is a powerful thing and even if it is placebo effect, then so be it.

I dunno, with me, it started in jr high school.
You go to a party, there's girls there, it's cool to slip a beer or 2 out of that 6 pack that some older guy with fake ID
bought.

Then, a little bit down the road, some cool cat will have a small bag of weed, and hey, that's really cool.

Some, don't go that far. They become class kings and queens at school.
Some, a few drinks and a doober is fine.

Some move on up, cocaine, hell, that's party city on overdrive. Some girls love that crap, will do almost anything
To be part of that.

And some, some like the the other way, a few Xanax, a few Valium out of the medicine cabinet, till some aloof, real cool
guy, or girl, give you a taste of, a snort of, the Big H.

And from what they tell me, that my friend, is the best. Takes all your troubles away, puts you on a magic carpet ride of pleasure, after you get sick for a moment. Sex is unbelievable.

Until it wears off. And there lies the problem.

All the while, from that little party and that 6 pack, you get to know people, hang out, find out who has what on any given day. It's not like you wake up one day and decide to get high. It's a life style you choose.

I bet the subject of this discussion has been into this for 10 years already.

That's why, you ain't gonna change him. Only he, himself, can say screw this, I'm quitting this crap, this life.
Why? Because he likes it, it's more fun than living the other way.

The only thing correct about your post is that lyrica it is like gabapentin. They're very similar. But it doesn't take up to six weeks to concentrate, and they do work for pain. Incredibly! I take it here in there on those days when I work 15 hours and I have to walk a lot which causes pain and inflammation through my right side. I snap one of those back and I feel no pain at all and sleep like a baby that night. placebo effect? In your dreams!!

How are you in possession of heroin and marijuana and drive a car with expired registration while swerving lanes? That is stupidity at its finest.

Kelsey Grammar got popped for coke possession after getting pulled over for expired sticker

Friend of mine who has since passed was driving the truck his girlfriend was leasing for him with an expired sticker. Truck got impounded and the story got worse after that.

Moral of the story is people with substance issues are train wrecks that can't address minor responsibilities like having a current registration sticker.

Don't get me started on the stupid stuff as I have to move on as this stirs up a lot of painful memories. Painful remembering that you can't save some people from themselves.
Yeah, and Mr. Grammar is no worse for wear either.
Heck, even Tim Allen got popped with over 4 pounds of coke at the Kalamazoo, MI airport. Did a few years in the penitentiary, and now look at him. He has a net worth of $70 Million.
Just because some one does some very stupid things in their youth, doesn't always determine how their life will end up. Its up to each individual, and who they really are.
Go Austin. Its time to clean it up dude.

Coke is very, very different than heroin. Not saying it's okay, but they aren't even comparable. Cocaine is the "rich person" drug. Heroin is the "poor person" drug. I'm sure you can figure out which one is worse in terms of death and addiction.

I've done everything in my past, except Heroin...and I went through years of addictions. The struggle is real...but I only got sober when I excepted responsibility for my use & my sobriety. I give most all the glory to God for strengthening me & giving me hope...but it took me stopping the "blame game", and seeing my part in it. Doctors, psychologists & counselor will say it's a "disease" & try to flip it as not being the addicts responsibility...but I think that's BS for the most part.

I don't know particulars...so no judgement here. Sad story, if it's true. I hope the young man gets some clarity...and some help, from whatever source.

Heroin is what one transitions to after the pill supply is cut off.

Unless you have unlimited money, like Rush Limbaugh did, the amount of pills needed far exceeds what you can get. They say rush was up to $5000.00, per day, and I dont doubt it.

Also, at some point, you take the pills to feel normal. For about ten percent of us, the thought of going 10 days without anything, then feeling better, is impossible to have.

Logic does not really apply when you deal with insanity.

Very true, until you learn how to smoke it.

Hey, some, can handle it all. Party a few hrs, and walk away.

Some, really like it, and don't know when to quit.

And don't confuse 2 big issues I see here, one, doing drugs to ease a pain from an injury, or replacing
a legal one for pain when the doc cuts you off.
That's one issue, and IMO deserves some compassion, some understanding, some leeway.

The other, the subject of this thread, is a guy just likes to party.
Don't lose sleep on this guy, he wouldn't for you, not in a hundred years.

I'm glad things are working out for them. Sounds like they adjusted well.

One year out of high school a good friend of mine was murdered over a drug deal gone wrong. That was 18 years ago and I have thought of him at least once a week since. Always wonder how things would have gone for him if he took a different route. From time to time I'll remember the good times but it's usually the what if's I think about. Weird how that works hey.

As if the stuff wasn't bad enough ,now they are mixing it with fetanol, long time users can be dead at any time because of the unknown amount they are using.

Very sad.. Going back to listen to the interview with Steve after finding about this was real eye opening.

I really feel for the kid, drug addiction is an awful disease, its become an epidemic in the north east where I used to live just in the past 5 years, and it's only going to get worse until something is done.

Just unreal to the level of talent this kid had, to step away for as long as he did and do the things he did, and then come back and podium at arena cross while not even being pumped about the whole thing.. that is insane.

Listening to the interview he genuinely sounded like he would loved an outdoor ride in Canada, no pressure, could smoke all the weed he wants, not have to race super gnarly guys, just ride his bike and be happy.. That will be a lot more difficult now, especially if that felony charge sticks.

Hope he can get the rehabilitation he needs.

Maybe it's your complete ignorance that saved you from drug addiction. If a doctor told you that you had a brain disease based on the tests that were performed, you'd likely believe them. Yet, when a doctor says that drug addiction is a disease based on the tests performed, individuals like yourself say they are full of shit even though it has been proved that drug usage literally changes the brain structure. It must be too hard for someone like you to admit that you're no better than a drug addict. You have no inherent strength or quality of character, or toughness that they lack -- the only difference is the structure of your brain compared to theirs. I guess it sucks that you don't get to pat yourself on the back so that bothers you.

When I heard him on Pulp saying he was taking a step back from the Rockstar Husky team, I was afraid this is what he was really doing. It was pretty well known that he was an addict, but I was really hoping he got it together when he came back. Unfortunately, the biggest trigger for someone like Austin is, MONEY.

Poooor Austin, "the system let him down" "get well, drugs are a bitch"...fuck that! Party on man.

Well then, tell me my friend, what changes occur to the brain when a guy does quit?

And plenty do.

I know I smoked about 2acres of weed in maybe 35 years, and jut got tired of it.
I just quit.
Same with barbiturates.
Had my back operated on, 2010, doc gave me 3 months of what I chose.
I love Valium, 10 mg and 2 shots of whiskey. Love it.
But, after 3 months, I just got tired of it.
Quitting, It was like having the flu for a week.

What, did my brain structure just change back?

Health officials have urged doctors to prescribe addictive pain medications much more cautiously.

Absolutely. As I said in a previous post, we have people who use it because they became addicted to opiods after an injury. Then we have people who use it simply because they're drug addicts and will take almost anything they can get their hands on. I feel bad for those addicted to pain meds that need to resort to heroin. I don't feel bad for those who use it because they're addicts. Two completely different scenarios. I'm not sure which is accurate in Stroupes case. He seems like a thug, but at the same time has competed in a very physically demanding sport which is synonomys for injuries. So it's tough to determine exactly where the fault lies. Either way, only he's responsible for getting help.

jimbo, your ramble is so all over the map that i don't even know how to respond? are you in the middle of a nice trip right now? i pat myself on the back all the time. i'm not a fuck up....maybe i should be with all the injuries i have but unlike the poofters out there that just toss in the towel and get ripped all day i get up, go to work, make a ton of money and live up a clean life in fine style! so suck on that.

The ABC News program of 20/20 did a recent program titled Breaking Point: Heroin in America that is really eye opening. The amount of people turning to heroin from starting on opioids is astonishing.

My very close friend and roommate in college would dabble with pain pills. I didn't think anything of it because I didn't want to preach drug abstinence to him because it would have been hypocritical of me as I regularly smoked weed. He ended up getting addicted but had the strength to realize it (thanks in part to his gf) to seek help before it lead him down a dark path of turning to heroin.

My parents have a family they are close to, and the son of the family was a very good student and person in general. He started dabbling around with pain pills and got hooked on them, and then turned to heroin because it was cheaper. He ended up in a coma and was extremely close to dying from an overdose. Thankfully he turned his life around and has kicked the habit.

Opiate pills are the truest form of gateway drugs that I've ever seen. They are everywhere, and need much stricter regulations than what's current. The fact that a majority of the USA says weed is bad/illegal but synthetic heroin is OK/legal says a lot about our society.

I hope Stroupe can find the strength to do what's necessary to overcome his addiction. It is ALL on him to make the right choices to distance himself from the people/things that could lead him down the same dark path again.

Board of Directors for the for profit prisons are encouraging doctors to continue prescribing addictive pain medications.

Hurts the bottom line when they lose customers

I would like to hear more about this Lyrica, I thought it was a more potent gabapentin. Which doesn't do anything for pain when I used it. Pain management is one thing, but the dudes taking heroin, like was said before, are in it for the psyche high to "feel" normal. It is a depressing thing for me to see kids/racers I know go down this road. But, in their defense, the transition is not too far removed from the "high" we all get from riding mx. I can't stop riding, and i am glad it is legal,
Lyrica helps some people doesn't help others. It was a wonder drug for a friend's mother but didn't do squat for me when my L5 ruptured.

Sorry Hammertime but your personal experience doesn't set the bar for the rest of us

EDIT The only person I've known that did heroin went that route to stop the opiate withdrawals when his pain meds ran out. Bought 10 bucks worth of heroin and smoked it. Prices went back down thanks to the U.S. goIng into Afghanistan but please kids remember:

Just say no to drugs. Remember we've got private prisons with bed quotas waiting for you.

Post a reply to: Stroupe? Don't know if its true
