by the way - it's really a pity Nissan got weak some years ago and had to allow one of the lowest quality companies in the world to take control of their fine Japanese company.

Yep. Renault.

Decisions are now made like where can the cars be made cheaper, rather than how can they be made better.

I remember the Maxima, super good car,

Then the Tenn cars like Altima and Sentra,,,, second class quality

now what? Mexico?

Something tells me this new truck will not come out of the super quality factories of Japan

or am I wrong ?

The prices of new pickups are quickly getting too expensive for me. If I put 15k miles a year on my pu rather then 25k miles i might be able to justify these prices. If i buy a $50,000 pickup I dlike to drive the thing as much as possible...not just look at that $50,000 truck sitting in the driveway that I know i cant afford to wear out in 7 years and spend another 50k.

My ride, 2001 F-250 with 215,000 miles....just sayin'. Still love my old truck but have been wanting something new. I get to test drive new model vehicles weekly here at work as we repair them and I have to say there are not many new trucks that impress me as far as ride quality and rattles. Some seriously overpriced stuff out there. New military grade aluminum Ford F-150? They don't dent, the aluminum just cracks, rips and tears. Door fit/gap/alignment is pretty much shit on them.

But yes, I have bought some neglected pieces of property.lol

Actually I repair dents on the new F-150 aluminum trucks on a weekly basis using Paintless dent repair, so they definitely dent. Like you said though, put pressure the wrong way working in a hole or aluminum brace and they tear like wet paper. Yes, panel fit and gaps are shit on them. I have more than one body shop customer that stays busy with owners that are unhappy with panel fit and gaps.

You can't just make a blanket statement and call a factory bad by geography these days. My truck was built in USA (MI) but the motor was assembled in Mexico and has been bullet proof for 165K miles.

PDR guy....do you listen to classical music while you work? I have an older friend and that's his ticket. Then of course we had crackhead Don, the ragin Cajun. That dude could straighten any dent, anywhere, or so it seemed. Always tweaking. Laughing He burned a few too many bridges and moved on.

The Ford aluminum fit and finish will only get better and the overall construction of the truck seems to be somewhat simple. Nothing an additional 70 grand worth of equipment can't handle.Sick People better keep full coverage insurance on them because they are more expensive to repair.

Well Well, Nissan's Infiniti recently introduced a car that is powered by Mercedes.

So we know Renault and Mercedes bosses have been meeting over the years.

Then what a Nissan Truck sold by Mercedes.

Bottom line, the consumer has to be smarter than ever to figure out what exactly who makes what these days

and to figure out what product is quality or not.

Sure the old Datsun trucks were fantastic, but they were real Japanese products.

The later Nissan trucks from Tenn were no where near as good

and if my assumption is correct that America has now encouraged Renault/Nissan to move its manufacturing more and more to Mexico, I can not hold my breath waiting for another Datsun level product.

My two cents..... Honda is about the last company left that is concerned about quality, if they make a truck, I would consider looking at it, regardless where it is made because the company itself is still solid.

I have been away from home (USA) for a while so have not seen the April edition of Consumer Reports for a while, maybe someone has and can tell us how many red dots the trucks are getting these days???

Nah, I play old fingerpicking acoustic blues shows so that's what's usually in my earbuds(it helps me add new songs to set while I work). Two birds with one stone kinda deal.

Yes it's pretty much a law that at least one PDR guy per town is a crackhead. Hail storm money and idle time prob has something to do with it. Grinning

yes, I hear you.

It used to be easier, a Datsun was a Datsun and a Ford was a Ford,

Now who knows what a brand is, it takes lots of work to find the best quality product.

So now we wait ten years and say, oh yea, that vehicle made in MI with the Mexican motor was a great product.....

but the one with the Motor from KY was not so good.

not easy these days.....

Agreed, especially on a new model coming out...rolling the dice usually.

The suspension also leaves a bit to be desired, I'll probably upgrade to a fox shocks setup which is said to make a big difference.

Good power out of the 385hp 5.0 though, Ford is so pro ecoboost the upgraded coyote wasn't even advertised at all.

I went with the V8 in my '15 too. I'm definitely pleased with it. I hear ya on the suspension. It's great in every day driving and surprisingly good off road, but it's noticeably bad driving over expansion joints and hard chatter like that. I'm thinking of going the fox route on mine, too. I haven't pulled the trigger yet because I was thinking about waiting to see how the new Bilstein 5100's will be when they finally get around to releasing them. I'm sure they won't be on par with Fox but they might be good enough for what I need.
I have Fox 2.0 shocks on all 4 corners of my 2014 F150, kicks the crap out of stock (Truck is much more planted and sure footed) and makes the front end sit about 1.5in higher than stock, just enough rake for towing or hauling. I had 650lbs of plywood in the back and it sat perfectly level.

For what its worth.

I owned 2 Titans. Both had nothing but problems.

The first one I bought used so I thought maybe that was the reason.

I traded it for a brand new one and had all the same problems and then some. Nissan never re-engineered anything.

Rear end shuddering locking up on the highway on both vehicles. Scared the shit out of me the first time it happened.

Power rear windows that go down one day and wont go back up. (replaced 7 windows/motors all told).

I had the wiring melting on the exhaust problem.

I had the broken heater lever inside the dash (common expensive problem).

ABS brain went in both Titans.

Rear backup camera failed in both.

Interior material fell apart. (Seat steering wheel)

Other than all that it had great power and handled awesome for a big truck.

But I would never even think of owning another Nissan truck.

I raced MX during the mid 70's starting on a 74 Honda CR 125

and I have owned plenty of bikes and cars along the years, German, Japanese, American, Japanese car made in Ohio, Japanese car made in Canada, Japanese car made in Japan, Japanese car made in Turkey, on an on

Plus I sold Nissan cars for 6 years

so I have lots and lots of experience

I had a 1971 Honda SL-70

I rode the living shit out of that bike and hardly ever changed the oil.

That thing was probably the highest quality product I have ever owned.

When I look at the photo on this thread of the old Datsun Pickup, I can understand.

Except it has an option for a Cummins 5 L deisel engine and gets almost 20 mpg. But as for looks, yes. But imitation is the highest form of flattery.

that's a good one, brought a wide smile to my face......

but actually reality is even better.

my first car (16 year old from north Georgia mountains) was a used Toyota Corolla Automatic.

I had no idea of what was a good car or bad car back then, just got it cause my father found it.

Well 16 year old, what can i can, i got tired of the automatic - thought a manual was the way to go, so i sold the toyota and bought a car with a manual transmission. it even had a sun roof.

ready?

I just wish you could still buy a truck, not a rolling movie theatre with wireless Internet and custom fit massage chairs. I'll take a stick shift, trailer and off road package, and if I'm feeling frisky maybe a/c. Could probably sell that for less than $60k if I'm not mistaken.

And there's been a definite creep upwards in size. The "mini" trucks now are like full size were 20 years ago.

Notice the hooks around the edge of the bed where they should be. I had a '73.
You could put whatever you wanted in the bed, and tie it down easily.

It's funny you bring that up. One of my buddies is a cabinet builder and went to the dealer to look at getting just a bare bones work truck (manual, rubber floors, roll up windows, etc). Basically, he's really rough on the interior of his vehicle and just wanted something basic and cheap. What he found out was that the bare bones truck was pretty much the same price as the nicer ones with bells and whistles. They told him they only give good prices on those when they sell them as a fleet and not individually. Perhaps that's one reason you don't see as many people with them. By the way, I'm not claiming to know the ins and outs how that works with the dealerships, so I'm sure someone can shed some more light on this.

A few years back I tried the same thing ,bare bones truck . For less then a grand more you can get a nicely loaded one . I guess market dictates what is the most affordable truck for them to build ,they probably have to retool an assembly line just to put in crank windows and a rubber floor.
