To everyone complaining, the chase is essentially a playoff. Do you complain when a team in football, basketball, baseball, etc. with the best regular season record gets knocked out in the playoffs? Put the work in to get in the playoffs, and then it's game on for the championship.
Well the point of playoffs in team sports is to get the best teams playing each other to find out who is the best. They have to do it this way because over the course of their regular season they may only play each team once or twice if at all. In racing they are all racing each other every race already.

seems dumb to me. Most points all year long = champ. Why would you take away from the guy that has done well all year?

The only possible benefit is if a guy came back and was still not 100% the first 2-3 rounds. With that said, sx and mx have more issues with guys injured at the middle and end of the season than the beginning.

I have never had a problem enjoying the integrity of a race season winner going to the one who has earned the most points. Why is that suddenly boring? If the championship gets decided early, then I witnessed and excellent racer earn a title.

Plus, it gives all those privateers and those outside the top ten 6 plus LESS chances to race a SX. Handicapping their ability to grow at a fair rate.

If they are saying that the length of the series inherently gives a good chance of one rider clinching early, then I second the motion to split the series into into Easts/West, Winter/Spring, whatever. Two equal championships.

Never go the playoff comparison. I know NASCAR tries to call it that and tries to appeal to the masses by recreating stick and ball sports, and we try to emulate NASCAR it seems. But the flaw is that not all baseball, basketball, football teams compete against each other every week, nor do all teams still compete in the playoffs though they have no chance of winning the playoffs. Nor do we keep a record (if we did you would have a bunch of 0-17's a couple of 1 or 2-17's, a 3-17, and a 12-17 record most seasons), we score cumulative points so the season builds on itself as our weekly "game plan," "plays," personnel, and coaching are reasonably unchanged race to race unlike other sports. I know the difference seems minute, and maybe they are non existent in some's mind, but in racing the "loser" has always had a chance to win, if you play a smart points game (ala Dungey of the past) you could come in second in every race never winning, but win the championship. In all the other stick a ball sports the game (race) you either win or lose and the championship is lost or won with it. Racing is unique when put together in a season like that, and our type of racing is more unique with the type of physical demands and rate of injury. I'm all for change, but we need a unique change to address the demands of our sport, not just modified versions of other sports that don't compare. And I don't think Playoff is a real possibility unless we reduced this to all head to head bracket matches... Or eliminated individual titles and points and only awarded team points and titles and every week the teams cumulative points for the night determine if they "won or lost" the race and we kept a record of that. But then we would have to have roster max and mins for equality, and limit two teams at a time on the track to race.

Full disclaimer. I like NASCAR, not a fan of the chase there (but its working for them it seems). I love MX/SX but don't want it to be NASCAR. And we cant be, our demo is too different, our following will never be the same, and Im fine with that. However I would like to see some logical changes to the point system. Shoot I would even be open to say Daytona (a unique supercross race) paying double points to shake things up, over a chase format.
Supercross is entertainment that targets primarily males, 18+, with disposable income who like a form of racing involving a motor. NASCAR targets the exact same demographic. To say our demos are different is completely false. Motorcycle racing is in the vertical of motorsports. If you say it's working for them it seems, then who's to say it can't work for us.

First it was four strokes, then it was the permenant numbers, then live TV and now this. I just can't take it.

Please bring back air cooled, twin shock, run the number you earned the year before and 6 month delayed TV coverage.

I don't consider Wikipedia as gospel, but by their definition of playoffs: The playoffs, postseason and/or finals of a sports league are a competition played after the regular season by the top competitors to determine the league champion or a similar accolade.

All a chase does is create a regular season. Big money is still on the line every night for a race win. Ideally I would make a rider qualified for the chase only by finishing on the podium in a "regular season" race.

Maybe I'm wrong, but in Arenacross doesn't the leader at the beginning of the chase get like 15pts and then 2nd has like 12 and so forth on down? It's not a complete reset to everyone having zero pts is it??
I guess we will see, but if the chase worked so well in motorsports why has NASCAR modified theirs multiple times since they started the chase format??
Not sure what I think about this yet....I guess it will change the saying that "you can't win the championship at A1 but you can lose it" to " you can't win the championship at A1 but you can't lose it either"......

I don't agree on the demo but thats ok. Sample size for us is much much smaller. Ok I agree with the general premise that 18+ males are probably boths primary demo, yet they have such a larger pool of anyone who drives a car, where we are limited to motorcycle enthusiast for the most part and only a percentage of them, as road bike, quads, Harley's make up a HUGE portion, stats would say larger portion, than off road motorcycles.

My larger point is NASCAR is mainstream, we are not, they have the money to roll with the chase we do not. Again see smaller demo. I don't think this takes our sport main stream. I mean NASCAR did this as a way of "competing" with stick and ball sports to further their demo (which was already 5x or more than ours), after they had been "mainstream" and generated much more revenue, for many years.

As I mentioned in another post to do the chase properly (I stress IMO) you would have to mix up the east and west rounds so that not all early rounds where in the west and not all championship rounds were in the east. To compare to stick and ball sports and playoffs this is similar to the home field advantage concept. That adds an immense cost for teams, riders, privateers. Completely ruins the 250 continuity (what little there is). So purely from a money standpoint, would this make sense? again stress IMO no. There is no way it would generate enough money to offset those costs, especially at the team, rider, privateer level, little lone expand and grow revenue. Partly because again not many will care all that much, as this will do little to grow our demo, and again our demo is too small to begin with.

This does nothing to create excitement for the first 2.5 hours of every 3 hour night show. That is where you will have to start, because right now to few people care about our beloved SX Championship. (some amount of sarcasm)

Supercross is not a team sport. Riders line up against the same riders every race and the one with the most points at the end of the year wins. Football, Baseball teams do not play every team during the year thus a play off is needed to get the devisions to play brought down to one from each side.

This chase format is not about the championship, the riders or manufactures. It is 100% about TV ratings and money for FELD! FELD is willing to ruin the sport with a championship that is fixed. I do not care how you try and spin it a chase format is fixing the outcome of the championship.

Name one sport that continues after the championship is decided.

Does that make any sense?

What's the down-side of having a "reset" with let's say...6 races to go?
Oh, and what if that reset gives everyone in the top ten (or within a certain amount of points from the leader) a chance at the title?

Wow

Soooo glad the little dick club wants to get personal...

Here is what I get, Princess:

1. It might let someone that gets injured early or in the pre-season have a shot at it.
Examples: Andrew or Trey
2. It might make it interesting or...might even cause a 250 rider to stay on a 450...
3. It makes the season "intriguing" again after an early season run-away...like this one.

You know, dude, little dick bug fuckers -like you- ALWAYS like to take jabs. Well, here's my jab...you ignorant little bitch: how much skin do you have in this game? how much do you put in on a privateer or an up-n-comer?

To be clear, you ass hole: what the fuck do you do other than bitch ALL THE FUCKING TIME.

Since you threw shit in my direction, I invite you to GFY & EABOBOD.

Have a nice day you whinny little dicked bug fucker.

A note: waaaay too many of you just bitch, whine and moan ALL the damn time. It gets old. As do you, Zracer.

Last year's Nascar Chase format had elimination rounds. The Chase format we're talking about is that the top 10 in the riders point standings after 10 rounds are eligible to win the championship with 7 rounds remaining to battle it out.

Good point. The elimination rounds are what kills it for nascar. With 7 races or so to
Go in sx without eliminating riders, someone can still have a bad race and win the championship. Look at Webb and savatgy. I think one reason the 250sx championship is always so close is because they only have 8 races. Imagine that.

BOOOOOOOO, it might make it more "exciting" for the casual fan, but in my opinion it puts an asterisk on every championship from here on out.

Wikipedia definitions don't hold much weight.

Again, playoffs are necessary in team sports where they aren't all playing each other every week. A post season playoff in our sport would be better executed by taking the champions of supercross and motocross and having them race each other in a race that combined both disciplines. But I guess that what the Monster Energy Cup is already suppose to be?

I'm not trying to argue just trying to understand the idea of a chase in racing.

How about 17 rounds and your best 16 count? Otherwise the beginning rounds have no importance in the championship and you are completely discounting the guys that are able to stay on 2 wheels and be good the whole series. Now we will get guys going easier just to make it to the point in the series when it really counts. I think people wanted change but I don't know that many were screaming for a chase format. Not good in my opinion.

X1000. It turns it into a circus act. As that chart earlier in the thread shows, in 2012, Brayton would be champion if they use a last 7 race chase system, not RV. Brayton is no where near RV or Dungey's level (no offense, Brayton you are still ultra talented) and yet through a chase system, he would have been champion? That's clearly absurd.
But who knows, maybe this idea will catch on and at the Olympics, the runners in a 100 yd dash will have to stop at the 75 yard line and do a reset for the last 25 yards. Makes perfect sense.

This is fantastic news. The sport may lose 20 or 30 "core" viewers but they will gain thousands towards the end of the season when there is a playoff atmosphere. SX is a circus and anything must be done to keep it entertaining

So next year let 's say Dungey kills it first 10 rounds and has a 75 point lead. Say Tomac crashes out of one of the first rounds, misses a couple, but makes it into the Chase. Then they reset the points and Dungey still kills it but has 1 bad race with a crash or mechanical, while Tomac wins 1 race, hovers around the podium, and wins the championship by 2 points. (Change the names to suit yourself). How is it fair to call him the champ? Also, I don't think points for qualifier races makes any sense, but I would like to see the get a nice cash reward for that stuff. And if you have to spend an hour trying to explain the format to a casual observer, like Arenacross, then it's probably gimmicked up to much

This is fantastic news. The sport may lose 20 or 30 "core" viewers but they will gain thousands towards the end of the season when there is a playoff atmosphere. SX is a circus and anything must be done to keep it entertaining
Yea, this will really put SX on the map.

So, for those of you constantly complaining about how "boring" it is when the title is virtually decided in March-April...

What's the down-side of having a "reset" with let's say...6 races to go?
Oh, and what if that reset gives everyone in the top ten (or within a certain amount of points from the leader) a chance at the title?

Let the ranting begin!

Here is the downside . It makes the championship a joke . Last years Nascar champ missed 1/3 of the season . Its pathetic. Its not racing. Its reality tv bs. Not at all suprised that Team Green doesnt get that.

To anyone-else I've offended, other than lil-dick Znonracer, I apologize.
Excellent rant Team Green...loved every bit of it and my only disappointment from your
post was that it was waaaaaay too short
