People were already calling Herlings a sandbagger at that age.

Reeds not allowed to have an opinion? I would think the kid would be stoked that Chad thinks hes good enough to turn pro now.

I'll say keep forward with the plan. Makes so much sense and it's a realistic move. In a way, this is like Reedy giving him a nice big plug before Hangtown. No pressure or anything.....

Honestly Chad, just keep you nose out and focus on your own program. It's not really any of your business what the kid does and in ten years no one will give a toss whether he started SX in 2016 or 2017.

I say that as a huge Reed fan as well.
Just an opinion man.

If he is my son I have him wait. Hes 17 and if he's as fast as some think he is he may very well win his first year witch puts him on a 450 at 19. Keep him on a 250 for 3 and a half years, let his body and mind mature enough for a 450 while he is winning titles building confidence and making good money. Then you put him on a 450 when he is 20 or 21 and is mentally aand physically ready.

You need to think about his whole future, not just about now.

Yep.

He's ready now, but that doesn't mean he should sacrifice a full year on 250s later on for one season of sx now.

Outdoors isn't that far away.. We can wait. Chad is being selfish I think and just wants to see him race, the same way most of us are I think.

Most pros racing today all started at 16.
Chad probably doesn't think it's that big of a deal.
Kid still looks like he's twelve though.

In my opinion, if he is being handled like racing is a business- stick to the plan. However, if he is truly thrilled to ride and race- get out there now and have a blast, experience the world with his talent. It seems to me that Chad loves what he does; look how long his career has gone on. :-)

stick to outdoor plan.

But be practicing sx now with your Kawi counterparts while they are out there on the practice tracks.

Yep, I'm really starting to see that now. At least 50% of posts are vitards telling pro riders how to live their lives..

No plan is set in stone... plans are meant to guide, not be so resolute that you cannot refine the plan as you are in execution, Its called decision point tactics!

If he struggled during his road to SX adventure in AX I would agree with him and say wait. He won pretty convincingly and seems to be able to handle the pressure as we witnessed at MEC.

If I was him or his parents I would be at the SX test track with the rest of the PC team and evaluate where he is. If his lap times are consistent and close to his team mates, why not give it a go come the east coast with a no pressure deal.

or just stay the course... wtf do I know?

As a fan I would love for him to start racing, but I love how he isn't letting others influence his decisions. I believe it is a very bold statement and rare for a kid his age to make such a mature decision.

So if Forkner now has enough points to qualify for sx does he sit out the rest of arenacross because the plan is to go outdoors and stay healthy? I would say arenacross is just as dangerous as sx more so riders willing to take you out more than the track but still dangerous, and last time I checked arena cross was a pro event wasn't it? So hasnt he already debuted as an professional?
I don't know what William Faulkner has to do with this. He's been dead for over fifty years.

But the East Coast is deep this year even with AC out.

Although the Outdoors first route worked for Tomac and Barcia and got them adjusted to the pros.
Race wins?

How did he fair in Arenacross?

He raced four main events in the Arenacross class... his results were in this order; fifth, fourth, first, first.

Let him race AX and be ready for MX. Then have all of the off season to get ready for SX. SX is completely different than MX, which is what these kids are used to riding. I think he's taking the smart route, he wants to be totally prepared. He hasn't exactly been dominating AX, so what makes people think hes prepared for SX?

He's 17. Stick to the plan. Although when I watched a video of the kid at baja acres, I about shit myself. These kids are going so fast these days. Unreal the speed.

I applaud the kid for sticking to a plan – it shows a lot of maturity.

That is a smart kid, and he seems to know what he wants to do. There's a saying "don't fix it if it ain't broke"
Boom!

He's been watching this all go down for years. That's how he, his dad and Mitch came up with a plan...

Sure, he crushes it; but, he's developing as a rider and still "growing" as a kid. Pretty sure that's what everyone in his decision making group is thinking.

Go outdoors and race against EVERYONE in the 250 Pro Ranks. Get used to who they are and how they ride: then, go SX racing in 2017 knowing the riders and the speed needed.
