I just watched it a couple more times and even if dungey didn't clip that last jump he was going straight for James still. There was no way he was going to stop and turn without t-boning James. He may not have meant for it to turn out the way it did but contact was going to happen whether he clipped the jump or not.

I don't think Stewart is to blame at all, Stewart was racing and got run over from behind!

That was a big hit, he didn't see or feel it coming and where his head hit in that rut was a sudden stop, no helmet would have changed the result of that

Man, such a bummer. Really dumb move by Dungey. No way it was intentional, just really poor judgement which all riders are guilty of from time to time, even Dungey. So shitty for James to come back from such a long time off only to have it end like that. He seemed to be riding fast and smart. I hope he comes back strong, but I worry about all the hits he's taken to the head.

Exactly. This stuff happens. You could tell by Dungeys body English on the podium that he feels terrible over what happened.

Pumped for anderson. But why would you dive bomb the inside on lap 2? Why?
And why would you square a turn damn near at the entrance on lap 2? He had to have known there was an entire field of riders behind him. Stewart was impatient and got bit.

Yes. Notice how Dungey isn't expecting a question about the incident at first, he's smiling and expecting the usual set of questions but when the incident came up first u can see Dungey's facial expression change as well as a shift in his entire body.
Also, Dungey let out a "oh no" (with full Minnesota accent intact) right when JTaft brought up the Issue.

Dunge took his ass out. STUPID move by Dungey. Even if stew hadn't cut down 5 still would've run him high with that dumbass line. You don't triple to the inside like that without the intention of running him high. Plain and simple.

Dungey cased the jump which also prevented him from stopping faster. Also, stew cut down hard on that turn which you probably shouldn't do that early in the race in traffic. It was a racing incident. It happens.

DV has a good outlook on it and I think he knows a thing or two more about racing than any of us do.

Canard was almost PARALLEL to RD. RD was almost 90 degrees to Stew. A LOT different both in the intent of the passing rider, and the risk of injury to the rider in front.

As for James it pretty much blows his season. The only chance James had to be a championship contender was to finish the first 5-6 races in the top five as he got the bike dialed in, and got his speed back...then step it up later in the season as he gets in the groove. It looks like that is exactly what he was trying to do. He clearly did not have podium speed... He was riding smart and within himself...and it was just a bad racing deal.

Hope his brain is not too banged up...
"Didn't have podium speed" ???

3rd fastest qualifier and was battling in a podium position. I'd say everything about his day had podium written all over it.

If 7 had entered that turn any wider , he would have been in the bales on his right. RD was coming. Do you even know what" Leaving the door open" means? You could have driven a truck in that hole.

I think exactly because Stewart might have squared the corner (just like the lap before which RD must have seen) that Dungey shouldn't have tripled into the inside. This was his mistake. Stewart has every right to cut down and Dungey should have anticipated that possibility. There's a time and place to jump to the inside of someone, that wasn't it.

i don't think what Dungey did was wrong, not the best decision Dungey has made, but when he clipped that last jump he couldn't brake as hard and that caused a part of the issue.

Uh, because the goal of racing is to adnavce positions without risking a crash. The correct method and the incorrect menthod happened in the same corner. Put your Wheaties away.
