So this bike I came acrossed on craigslist is pretty badass prices a little high but given them modifications made in the updates if I had the money I would buy this bike out right now it kind of resembles what it works bike would have been like in that time frame with the parts that are on it I think whoever did this did it fantastic job with the bike and I love the graphics get so I thought I'd share with everyone because it sweet

Those were the best looking Yamaha's, IMHO.. Nice bike but I think it's about $1000 too high.

Not an 01. More like 97/98 unless he intentionally ditched the white airbox and factory excel rims. Good bike still, just not an 01.

It has the current gen engine so I'd say it's definitely a 99-01. The airbox suggests it's probably a 99. Still a great bike though.

Ridiculous price. I sold my 01 this past summer for 1400. I had tons of goodies on it too.

Bro you're missing the point of the price a few card it but most in C what he did was the ground up restoration and put the SSS suspension on their went to a little extra effort that bike is what appears to be a ground up resto with update suspension oversize brakes Honda brakes for that matter and again the bike was fully restored so is it crazy for a retail is used by price yes of course but that bike is probably pretty close to brand-new and about the best example you never get for an 01 YZ 250 again not to mention the fact of the updated suspension which probably makes up biking incredibly awesome bike ride. I do agree with you guys so there is some sticker shock to the price however if I didn't have the money I swear I would buy that bike for 2800 energy can see apparently he still hasn't sold I'm gonna take a guess though and say that aside from some heavy motor work that bike is probably pretty close to what a factory bike from that year would've felt like and maybe he switched out the white airbox for a black one

Attention YZ experts I'm curious what are the differences between the 01 and 02/03 bikes aside from the ergonomics and plastics changes????

I'm looking to get a second bike to rip around in the hills and have some fun and if I get a screaming deal on an 99-01 and it's essentially the same bike cause I know the motors the same and I'm pretty sure the frames on the 01 are pretty close to identical other than the plastics I'm actually gonna buy one and build it out just like this guy did and I agree to these bikes are some of the best looking bikes ever made. It would be a great backup second bike especially if all that I really need to be concerned about is the plastics and ergonomic changes because I'll probably be able to get 148 extremely lower-priced than 02 and up I know the suspension is near the same brakes engine pretty much all mechanical working parts are very close to the same from 99 to 03

Yea I sold mine for about the same price, but this is a little different than our clapped out roaches. He won't have any problem finding a buyer. You would just have to haggle him down a little bit.

wow thats nice. price a little steep but it is restored with upgraded suspension and brakes. even with all that i think id have problems paying more than 2500

Run the VIN to get the model year. The frame color screams 1997. (Unless it's been repainted... not completely unlikely since everything else has been restored.)

Dude you did an incredible job on that bike Ive had my eye on since the first time you posted it for sale and every time I come across the ad I always take a minute to look at the pictures of your bike even though Ive seen the pictures a bunch of times. That is one great looking dirtbike regardless of what year it is and HA! I called it too and said you probably put a black airbox on the 01. It looks like a legitimate works bike from yamaha I swear that if I had the funds Id buy it from you in a heartbeat.

Im still wondering, other than plastics how much different was the 01 from the 02-03? I ride my buddies 01 when it was still somewhat new and couldn't believe how strong that motor was!

Lightning, thank you. chassis differences from 01 to current are none as in no geometry changes. plastic and body work are a bit slimmer on the later bikes. steel vs alum. I like the steel. steel + sss really nice. I wanted to build a works bike and I know I did. was gonna go full titanium fasteners and such. suspension is factory connection serviced with a factory showa guy specs. this guy is the best I have had period. sss shock was modded to 01 length. forks are same length as stock. raced it at competitive edge arx stuff. its at no disadvantage against most 450 and 250 2t guys. it pulled a 3rd to the first turn and i could have done a better job of getting out of the gate than i did. as for selling it ? i have a 95 cr250, 83 cr480, 07 crf450, 87 kdx80 and the 01 yz. i cant maintain them all lol and i do all my bikes like the 01yz. thanks again if you need any info on a build i did lots of homework 1st. and have this bike down now.

Actually I do need some regarding a portion of the build you did, the conversion from the stock 46mm KYB's to the KYB SSS forks.

Ive seen so many variances on how to do it and parts required. My thinking is to try and get OEM triple clamps specifically from an 04 YZ/YZF as they were the same diameter fork just had the "open bath" design or are the tapers at the top different. Will this work?

The other solution I think is a failsafe would be triple clamps off of the 05 YZ250/450f's because the AOSS tubes are identical to the SSS forks and these year/model clamps would have the steering stops in the correct spot so no grinding would be required. Am I correct with this?

As for the rest of the parts needed, I have the updated 06/up front wheel collars, what else is needed?

Will my brake caliper from my 03 work or will I have to buy a newer model one and why?

Is there ANYTHING ELSE Im missing here?

Front fender doesn't fit. It sticks up like its bent at the triple clamp.

lightning I went with 08 yz450f forks, stock 08 yz450f clamps, 01 yz250 front wheel with stock 08 yz450f brake rotor, 07 crf450r front caliper and caliper bracket, 07 crf450r front brake line. (07 crf450r front brake master cylinder optional). 01 axle and spacers. press out the 08 stem and press in 01 stem. stock stem bearings from 01. axle nut 08. stem nuts 08. 08 front # plate. the 01 mounts differently. I used the 01 fender, it bolts up in the 08 clamps in same location as the 01 clamp. the yz450f sss forks are the same length as the 01 forks. yz250f forks are said to be shorter as well as the yz250f clamps. let me know if I left anything out...

just for fun I'm putting the 08 SSS front end on the 95 cr250 right now. that one had to have some machine work done, and front fender fitment issues. but its ready to test this weekend.
