I think what we are seeing is a direct result of KTM continuing to reinvest in its products where the other manufactures just haven't. Yamaha has to an extent but Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki are stuck in their ways while KTM is giving customers what they want. The direct result is lots of press.

Personally most of the KTM revival is due to the 2 stroke fraternity getting their rocks off, now that Yamahas still make and are making more two strokes then that's why they are deemed as making an effort.

To say the other manufactures aren't making any effort is really a load of bullshit, they clearly do not see the market for 15 different models and yet they still make their money even though their bikes are cheaper than KTM's. But I guess KTM riders need to pay more because KTM deserve it right?

I met Jody at Glen Helen last weekend. He had no problem shooting the breeze for a while. He had a 16 Yamaha 450 and a Kx250f. He said he doesn't really do the testing any more, he just likes to race. Talking to him I really doubt there is any brand bias there.

So in your opinion they should review the same bikes over and over again so that the Japanese get there fair share of press? If you were a subscriber you would see that they go out of their way to try to give press to those that are mostly undeserving. They do tons of hop up articles on suzuki and hondas. I see articles on rehabing old cr250s and they claimed the rm250 was the greatest 2 stroke ever made. When you compare a 4 year life cycle of 2 models compared to a 2 year life cycle of 8 models the math is simply in ktms favor. Hell mxa even tests all of the yamaha offroad bikes trying to give them credit where it's due.
Simply put KTM deserves the press they are getting. If you were a true fan of the sport as you claim then you should be cheering ktms efforts instead of your constant hate filled drivel. You don't have to like the bikes to respect what the company has done and is doing.

Been reading MXA a long time, I don't agree with everything they say but I don't doubt their integrity one bit. They tell it like it is. The end result is, we the consumer, end up with a better product. Over the course of my racing years I"ve owned all makes of bikes, I"m not loyal to any of the manufactures, I"m loyal to MX & off road riding! As a consumer I want the best product for my money. MXA helps me make that decision.

KTM has -6- Motocross models (Not including the 4, soon to be 5, youth models). You can call it -8- if you want to treat the Factory Editions as a different bike...I know how some of you with 15.5 FE's are feelin'...

KTM redesigns and develops new models virtually TWICE as fast as Japan...considerably faster if you want to talk Taliban...uh, I mean Two Strokes.

Did I mention those "Mid-Year" Factory Editions? Those are kinda nice, too. So that's DOUBLE the "Bike Test" opportunities for KTM ...since no-one-else has seen fit to compete with them on this front.

And...KTM gives MXA plenty of test bikes and seems to let them keep more than a few of them for long "term use"; therfore, the staff at MX really "get's to know" the Orange bikes.

So...you know who's fault it is that you see soooo much Orange at MXA?

It's EVERY-OTHER BRAND'S fault.

Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki: 2 models each (LAME).

Yamaha: 4 models (Nice! You do notice that Yamaha get's LOTS of love...I think SSS is used in damn near every KTM test to remind KTM that they're still "not there, yet"...

Husky: 5 models

KTM: -8- Models (The FE's get their own tests, don't they?)

Look I don't disagree with your comments at all (except Kawasaki makes a KX85 and Honda a CRF150) but it doesn't mean that MXA should treat the other manufacturers any differently, aren't they meant to have an unbiased view?

Fact of the matter is the bike market is shrinking so it's no use to the Japanese to invest big bucks in R&D.
They'll sell the same next year because most folks (unless there's big gaping differences) will stick with the same brand. KTM on the other hand is growing sales not because the market is getting bigger, they are just taking a bigger piece of the pie. So they need to invest heavily to convert riders from other colors. Now let's say you run a magazine,
Are you going to evaluate the same bike 3 times because it got BNG? Or, are you going to write about something that really is different this time around?

If I had the cash I would buy a KTM. They are yarding everyone. I would start with a 125, and go right to the 450. I swore off 450's but the lightest electric start 450 with everything on it. Crazy.

I think Jody also went on record and stated the Honda was a few changes away from being bike of the century. The changes highlighted aren't that difficult to fix.

"f this bike made 56 horsepower, moved the peak up 500 rpm, didn’t go flat on top, had a single exhaust system and was equipped with a stronger clutch, it would be the bike of the century. It is very well made, oozes trickness, has suspension that is ballpark and has a lightweight, graceful and agile feel that no other bike offers. It is the most fun to ride.

KTM is also very good at marketing ! Like Bill Gates is a marketing genius his product is not the best on the market , its just marketed the best. Honda suck at marketing! They have no clue how to reach their target market in a real way! Sure their engineering is top draw but that's not the name of the game (ala Windows) KTM are brilliant at "winning hearts and minds" . It a much warmer experience to hang out in the KTM circle than with cold clinical corporate Honda.

Clever marketing involves giving TV commentator $'s every time they say KTM etc . It includes how open is the channel between the manufacturer and the media. I am sure KTM have made it very easy for MXA to access their products and it all about going the extra mile - Do the Work get the result !

Not exactly what I meant.

I love MXA despite the KTM love because I think the KTM love is justified. MXA shits on Honda pretty much every chance they get...and Honda deserves it. Doesn't change the fact that I am still going to read MXA.

I trust MXA's opinion more than anyone else and I think they have the best magazine layout. For one I can actually read the print(looking at you TWMX). At this point Kawasaki, Honda, or Suzuki could throw a 10 year old 125 in a modern frame and MXA would go ga-ga over it.

When the Japanese get off their asses and start making bikes that people want they will be rewarded with more magazine coverage. You can't deny that there is a demand because KTM sells the hell out of everything they make. I never see left over brand new KTM SX models in my area.

Yes, and yes, and more yes.

I've been reading MXA since high school in the 1970s. When Suzuki ruled it was, "Suzukicross Action."

"Hondacross Action" also came along. Now it is "KTMcross Action."

I don't think this will ever stop. MXA test riders are just people with educated opinions.

Give it a rest. Either buy the magazine and use it to form your own opinion, or just ignore it. I think MXA did a reasonable job of justifying why they picked the KTM 450 as the best. I also happen to think Vital did a good job of justifying their pick of the Yamaha. Pick a color. Go ride.

If anything I think he may be harder on Company's like Honda or Yamaha who have more financial resources to develop their bikes when they fall short of expectations. But he definitely knows MX and have no problem calling things like they see them. I have been reading MXA since 1975 and still enjoy getting both the paper copy and digital edition.
