Dont forget that TP kicked ass in rally as well. I imagine RC would have grown to dominate in any other form of off road racing. The guy just hates losing that much that he is going to do what ever it takes to adapt and win.

I saw Mark Martin teaching RC at Lake City Speedway a few times... I saw Danica Patrick blow RC's doors off...

Best race car/ moto guy I saw easily was Jeff Ward IMO...

For sure Wardy, he got a 2nd at the Indy 500 in his third year as a Indy car racer NOBODY from moto will ever top Wardys car racing career which is impressive stand alone his other vast accomplishments in all other forms of racing. RC tried cars but wasn't even close to Ward.

All around motorcycle guy... Malcolm Smith... Show up anywhere & run near the front... Can work on the thing too
instead of standing there with his thump up his ass...

I think most would regard motocross as being number one with supercross rite there with it.. After all they are the most extreme and pure forms of dirt bike competitions.. Not to mention the originals..
With that being said... Jeremy McGrath at SX
and Ricky Carmichael at MX.
So who's the best of the best... since Ricky was way way closer in SX wins than Jeremy was to to Ricky in Motocross wins.. combined with the fact that Carmichael has won more combined races than any two riders put together... its simple
RICKY CARMICHAEL
RC hands down but MC & TP did finish Erzberg!

Graham Jarvis
Kailub Russell
Charlie Mullins
Ricky Carmichael
Jeremy McGrath
Kevin Windham
Taddy Blazusiak
Mike Brown
Ryan Villipoto

I think the absolute most talented right now, baddest dude is probably Johnny Walker on the grounds of the following...

Sheer Endurance
Speed skills
Balance Skills
Sprint ability
Mental toughness
Physical fitness
Comfort and familiarity in difficult situations

I was surprised that nobody put Johnny Walker up there. What those dudes do in the Erzberg scramble every year is beyond impressive. The way he competes in every stage of that race is impressive. Carl's Diner and some of the hill climbs, I don't think 99% of the top tier SX and MX riders could complete. Pastrana couldn't complete the Erzberg course and I think TP is one of the most diverse riders the sport has ever bred.

In short, Johnny Walker impresses me more than any other rider out there.
+1 more for Walker.

very good at motocross, supercross and trials too!

some of the things that him and graham Jarvis can do on a motorcycle are unbelievable! these extreme enduro races are impossible to get round for 99% of the riders out there, including a lot of pros (like you say, ask TP)

toni bou is very technically gifted too- amazing technique

Pretty sure RC could have handled it if he was in his prime at that time. Jeff ward is/was a bad mofo on a cycle, but I've seen them both ride in their prime and I believe RC would have had Jeff covered. Just my opinion......hard to say with that much time between them. RC had that raw speed that would make you shake your head, and then could go faster if needed......Jeff Ward, while probably on the same second as RC never made me believe that he would die to win. A smoother, more calculated rider for sure. I miss watching RC and Stewart race together. Next level shit there IMO. I would have liked to put RJ in the RC/Stewart mix. What a show of talent that would have been. I don't mean to take anything away from the old school pro's Those guys were cut fro the same cloth as today's hero's. Very hard to judge when they are from different decades. Fast is fast though, no matter how, when, or why. Do you really think RC would struggle if put in the trees??? I doubt it would take him long to excel at it.
Jeff Ward used to practice till the bike ran out of fuel while maybe being in the middle of a double jump...

Then push the bike back to the pits... That is willing to die to win...

TP199 by a mile. A beast at SX, MX, and FMX. Not too shabby on the trails either. Led Erzberg in his first attempt before getting his bike stuck in a tree...and he led the Baja 1000 on a DRZ too until he went through some deep fesh fesh and sucked a bunch into the engine!! Total badass!!!

I've heard that too, but my idea of giving it your all is riding out of your comfort zone by doing something extremely sketchy to either make a pass or not get passed.....(anyone that has raced should know what I'm talking about). Whether Jeff actually rode a tough track till his bike quit sounds more stupid to me than willing to die. If you do timed motos enough on a track, you kind of know when its getting time to pit for fuel. I can't help but think the reality is that on a jump filled track Wardy probably didn't wait for the cough right before a triple, that's almost a guaranteed way to get hurt.

I did hear the story about how he did that at Carlsbad, but that track wouldn't punish running out of fuel like a technical, jump filled track would. But what do I know, I don't even know Jeff Ward personally, and certainly wasn't there for his practice sessions. Just common sense......and I did say in my post that he was a bad mofo. I'm not taking anything away Jeff Wards career.

The OP asked who was the most talented ever. While results show a guy like Ward or RC should be the logical answer, I think their work ethic and determination led them to the top, not flat out talent. Bailey, JMB, Stewart probably had more "natural talent." Look at a guy like Lechien used natural talent alone to win races.

Say what?? He has a national title under his belt, and was leading the next year before it all went down hill.

While I'll agree that RC is the best outdoor rider ever..... he didn't make a mockery of everyone.... Tortelli when healthy and when not having mechanical issues was very, very good.

Most talented ever is so darn subjective.....

And for those who've never heard of him, Surtees won seven motorcycle road racing world championships before moving to cars, where he won the F1 championship as well. The only person to have ever won world titles on both two and four wheels I believe.

Quite a feat.

Everts, JMB, RC and McGrath... those four at the top for sure each have records no-one else have broken.

RV, Stewart, Cairoli not far behind with Roczen and Herlings probably adding their names to the list by the time they retire.

Ok... I'll break down Pastrana for you...

Freestyle... GOAT OR CLOSE...

Motocross 250 Class... Tier one Rider...

Motocross 450 Class... I believe he would spend more time on the ground then bike Anderson/Bagget Speed...

Supercross...250 shot at west/east title as long as Webb or Moose are not in the class...

Nascar... IF HE WAS RACING FOR SHIT HE COULDN'T CHECK THE SMELL... Danica Patrick could beat him
with equal equipment any day of the week...

Rally... Above Average

Big Foot Trucks??? Anybody can do that... Try driving a Loaded Semi thru New York City, it's 73 ft. long...

X Games... Goat...

Surprised more people didn't recognize Everts for just how versatile he was. Hell, besides 101 GP wins, ISDE overall, a bunch of those beach races, the dude also won all 3 classes in the GPs on a single day, back when they were 1 moto. Say what you want, but that is crazy! 3 completely different machines.
This topic will never be agreed upon by all, which is why there are jobs for more than one person in racing. On a given day, at a given event/track/stadium, anyone can rise to the occassion. So many uber talented dudes on both sides of the pond, that do things on 2 wheels most of us only drool over. Fun re-hashing all these people's careers though...
