Its clear many like jump tracks with smooth runs leading up to them. Even Unadilla has been compromised wirh sx obstacles but many do like natural tracks. Im a little surprised that i never see new tracks open that are built on ski slopes or in a valley. A good track is s good track. I feel a good challanging old school track would be a success

FTE, is that Decoster pic at Dilla yours ? I remember you had some unbelievable historic pics of when mx was mx

I understand that people/life/events/sports/et all evolve. I don't dislike modern motocross and understand the TV/spectators enjoy BIG BIG jumps. My own preference is for the old school type of motocross. But I am also a guy that rode off road, enduro, ISDT qualifiers, and scrambles. So my perspective of what is interesting may be different.

The ski hill comment is interesting. Most ski hills are too steep for a good track. Most of the DH bicycle trails built at ski areas cross back and forth across the slopes we ski in winter. The occasional section that goes down a slope does not do so for long because of the steepness. It is interesting how a "too steep" slope for riding is just a cruiser when skiing.

One small mom and pop ski area close by was closed for a few years. A local shop looked at it with the thought of holding a scrambles or Motocross there. The conclusion before even getting into the paperwork was that the main ski trails were too steep to make into a decent track.

It would be nice if they actually held a modern outdoor national and a real natural terrain track, just to see how it goes over and how good the racing is?

I remember a smaller ski area in the Berkshires (Charlemont, MA) had NESC MX for one or two seasons in the early 80s. And the failed Pine Top Ski Area in RI held a national in 1978, but that was by no means steep.

Mx = 45 minutes x2 motos, natural tracks. Mx is Endurance sport. Starts to get interesting at the 30minute mark. Not a 30 minute sprint. A Supercross is almost 20minutes.

NETRA has had many a race on local ski hills. We raced vintage at granite gorge NH this year. Blandford MA last year had a kill vintage HS. Every year a ski mountain in N.Y. holds a race. It can be done and is a lot of fun. Especially for those of us that ride open bikes. Smile

Thanks for sharing. Motocross has definitely evolved. It was more a gritty sport in the early 70s when I got into it. It was a stay all night in the bar thing. Guys like Joel Robert smoked and drank. It's still gritty but more technical now, both physical and equipment wise. Either back in the day or modern day you had to have skills. Nothing like watching a talented rider put a track together whenever. Face it I'm just a gezzer who rolls in the past and marvels at the present.

I'd probably get back into racing if there was a natural, euro GP style track locally. Gotta make it to work monday morning.

Old souls peak. I love all tracks. But man I would love to have a natural style track with lots of elevation in my yard or anywhere local

Funny, when I think of my racing days its the turns I remember and rerun in my mind, not the jumps
I think that's why I like the natural tracks.
