Bros. Nerve synapses travel the same speed from your brain to your extremities whether you're 6'1'' or 5'3''. This is why shorter people have faster reflexes.

This is why F1 drivers are all 5'3''...same with motogp. Its not that they fit in the cockpit any better. At that level, that advantage makes a difference. The tallest F1 driver is Jensen Button at a whopping 5'8". Not coincidence.

MX, being more physical, is a compromise between reflexes and strength, although I believe shorter riders benefit in corners with a lower CG. So, I'd say about 5'7", with a little foam shaved out of the seat, 145-150lbs... I.e. Jimmy Stewart and Villo. That's why 90% of the top guys are that build, and that's the genetic predisposition for this particular sport.

Short, like the Japs they developed the bikes for.

Im over 6ft and going from sitting to standing is a Herculean effort compared to my short friends.

Also they can stand out of corners much easier and have a much lower center of gravity.

Also: Big quad muscles, strong core.

That's a load of hogwash. lol

F1 drivers, MotoGP riders, fighter pilots and horse jockeys, are all small for weight and packaging reduction.

For American MX, I'd say, have a good look at Mark Barnett, Jeff Ward, And Ricky Carmichael types.

I think the slim guys are the new mold; e.g. Marvin Musquin.

Mesomorphs, medium height, small bone structure, small joint structure, large muscle structure, large tendon and ligament structure. Range of joint motion is less, muscle is dense. Very durable body type, less prone to injury and efficient at working.

If the race is won on the start, then smaller is better right? Personally, yeah most of the fast kids I knew shopped in the kids section. History shows this as well. Being tall is only an advantage in the whoops.

I'm 17 years old, I'm 6" 3' and 80kgs(176lbs) Sick If you make it work for yourself I think it just comes down to technique and how much work you put in. I've accepted I can't change my height Smile The only thing I worry about now is my age on this forum with all you seedy old farts Tongue

So you are a freaking neurologist? LOL

Okay Doc, tell everyone the nerve impulse speed to the muscles?

Do you understand just how small of a difference makes when we're talking about 4" of additional synapse length? We're talking milliseconds here...

The reason F1 drivers are so short is because those teams are looking for power:weight ratio and often times these guys start on karts. All things relatively equal with the machine, the smallest guy is going to have an advantage.

do you understand that by the time everyone graduates from karts, to F3000, to F2, to F1... they are ALL 5'3''? Now, why do you think that is? Why don't they have anyone 5'10'' to choose from coming up out of the feeder series? What's your explanation for that?

There actually was an article in one of the major magazines a few years back. It featured the top riders gear sizes and physical measurements including height, weight, biceps, neck and calf.
