I saw on the local news today that a Craigslist deal went bad about 1.5 hours north of me in the Wilkes-Barre, PA area. Looks like the bikes were a CR125 and a YZ125/250. The guy met with the potential buyers and they pulled a gun on him and fired shots. No one was hurt, but the seller's truck was stolen with the bikes in it. The two people they interviewed didn't have a full set of chompers combined.....Tongue Glad to see two of the three thieves arrested. As of the 11pm broadcast, the third is still on the loose.

His first mistake was going to Wilkes-Barre .. That place is getting out of hand. Glad the owner wasn't hurt and they were able to get the guys (who will no doubt rat out the 3rd) and they were able to get the bikes back.

Always arrange meets at the Police Station and let the guys inside know. I've never brought a bike to someone (always sold the bike from my house) but one time someone did ask, and I said we'd meet at the local Police Station and I never heard from them again.

It's about time we hear some good news about the police from the media.
It's beyond me that people are so willing to get rid of something they keep falling for this shit.

Unfortunately, the people who are falling for "this shit" are probably not plugged into the moto social media network. The only reason I would know this type of theft goes on is because of vital and maybe Thumper Talk.
Or...the guy trying to sell is just a total neive idiot?

Paranoid much, or just had a bad experience in the past?

Personally I've never had a problem selling/buying any of my dirt bikes, but then again my country isn't full of rednecks with shotguns.

Nothing paranoid about it, the usual trick over here is to phone up and get an address for viewing...few days later it's gone out of the garage. When i had bikes I always sold from a different address than where it's kept or sold through a shop.

Yeah, that's fair enough. I personally don't give out my home address to potential buyers either, but a police station is a bit OTT in my book. Whatever makes you happy though.

Just saw where our local large city Lancaster, Ohio Police Department has set up a lot specifically for Craigslist sales or similar exchanges where theft is a concern. Kudos to them for doing that.

Not really paranoid, just being careful. I've bought and sold heaps of bikes without a problem. But it pays to be careful. And rednecks and shotguns aren't a problem in Australia (yay for gun laws that work). But you can still steal stuff without a gun. I've heard of people taking bikes for test rides and just taking off. So yep, full deposit before a test ride, full refund if it's not what you want. With that said, none of the people I've sold a bike to wanted a test ride.

It's the rednecks with shotguns that make the blacks with pistols think twice about stealing a bike

Laughing Rednecks aren't the problem. How many videos have you seen of rednecks in inner cities doing wheelies with arm swag on stolen dirt bikes?

I did the same thing with a guy wanting me to deliver my bike to him. I told him to meet me at the Police station and never heard back from the guy.... LOL

Dumbass, those weren't rednecks with shotguns. The bullet casings appear to be from a handgun, probably a 45 or 9mm.

Those were thugs that embrace the culture of prison, by the way they were wearing their pants.

One only has to worry about the "Rednecks with Shotguns" if your selling a Hunting Quad... Wink (If this upsets anyone, they need to get a sense of humor)

If we had more rednecks with shotguns then we would have fewer urbanite's trying to steel all their stuff. When I say urbanite's I mean inner city social clubs members.Blush

I always arranged my meetings at my dads shop. Plenty of people, even on the weekends, to be a witness if something went wrong.

I did however have one guy who told me he could only meet me between the hours of 1 AM and 4 AM and it had to be in the parking lot of the abandoned Kmart....for some reason I just couldn't trust him....Grinning

Laughing I do like animals. I don't mind gun owners or that people have guns. Doesn't bother me at all. It's been about moto since day one. Never got into hunting or owning a gun as a hobby or because I want to be a badass. Laughing

Good advise. Not long ago, there was an elderly couple murdered not far from us when they traveled to look at/purchase a classic car. Also, while you're at the PD you can go inside and have them run the VIN to make sure the bike hasn't been reporte stolen.
