About 7 years ago (I know going back a bit) I busted the radiator my sxf so I lined up on the gate on my dads...

Shouldn't matter but as an 18yr old, it left a bitter taste. In other words, I am not very fond of calling other out for not having the best equiptment, being slow, or 'not riding enough'. We want to grow the sport but go around calling others posers? Whistling
something silmilar happened to me... i lined up a ta practice day on a KTM 200exc...
copped some laughs, but nothing feet better than ripping past those arseholes whilst beeping the horn and flashing tyhe headlight

In reading through this thread I can't tell if I'm a poser or not. Anthony, I do understand the definition you are trying to proffer, but others have added to and taken away from what you say is your original intent. I've come up with a "poser" scoring system, and will attempt to get to the bottom of this.

I don't tell people I'm fast, but on the other hand, I do say that I feel I'm riding better than I ever have these days. (Poser score of 0 because one cancels the other out.)

I don't have a flatbill, but I do have an old, faded FMF shirt. I also have another shirt that I really like that says, "Break my bones but never my soul" with a picture of a guy roosting on a bike.
(Poser score of +1 for having only one really "core" moto shirt and a thrashed out FMF shirt.)

On my truck, I have one of those tiny front number plate stickers on the rear glass (thanks, Stickman!), and I have one small FMF sticker next to that.
(Poser score of +2 for the two stickers, but shouldn't I be able to knock the score to a 0 because my truck is not completely slathered with "core" moto stickers? This is kind of where I get stuck trying to figure out my overall poser score.)

I am lucky if I get to ride two hours a week. I only race when the temps are cooler (gettin' old).
(According to one poster here this makes me a massive poser, so poser score of +3.)

My bike is very well maintained, and I've spent a lot of money modding it with things like Roth Racing porting and head mod, Factory Connection suspension, etc. I am fairly well capable of tearing the entire bike apart with no guidance beyond the manual, and I love the FC suspension, but I can't possibly ride the thing as fast as it is capable of going. A big part of why I've modded my bike so much is because I never could afford to do that stuff when I was younger and racing a lot. Now I can, so part of it is just fun to do, but I'd like to think the mods I've made make the bike easier for me to ride, and in my opinion, they do.
(Poser score is tough to figure on this one, but I'm going to say that the fact that I am able to pretty much do anything to the bike - mechanically speaking - cancels out my propensity to spend money on mods that only a pro could really use. So, poser score of 0.)

When it is appropriate, I do tell people I ride as a way to keep a conversation going, or as a starter. However, I don't do it because I want them to think I'm core or fast, but because I want to see our sport grow and become as popular as it was 40 years ago.. I don't care if people love me riding, but I do care about our sport. I think it is the best thing that ever happened to me - besides my wife of 31 years.
(Poser score of -1 for wanting people to discover and love our little sport.)

So, let's add it all up...

0+1+2+3+0-1 = +5

I'm a freaking poser. Good grief. Now, these scores are somewhat subjective. It is kind of like the guy that has the "NUMBER ONE DAD!" t-shirt. Another guy has one with "WORLD'S GREATEST DAD!" See what I mean?

Man, I don't know for sure. My guess is that would move you to the negative (or non-poser) side of things. There are some real experts here though, and I think they will help us sort through this whole point system. It works like this:

-5-4-3-2-1-0+1+2+3+4+5

The higher you end up on the plus side of the score is your "Poser Quotient." Obviously, if you end up in the negatives, you should not be considered a poser. It is picking the score though...that's where things get tough. Somebody should lay out a rule book so we can more definitively score whether or not one is a poser. Wink

Who gives a shit, most friends I have that fish "exaggerate" the size of the fish they caught and let go. How does their ability or lack there-of affect you?

The only posers that set me off are military posers. On our USArmy Ranger Association page it is filled with post after post of freaking posers that usually never served but claim SF, Ranger, SEAL, Recon, Sniper, HALO, Space Shuttle Door Gunner, etc, etc.

Stolen valor is something to get worked about about. Not some dude claiming he can nail every jump at hangtown and keep up with the pro's if he wanted.

I believe that a 2-stroke cylinder head test consultant would constitute at least a -5 on the poser scale. You may now rejoice in your non-poserness!

Ride in Baja 4-12 times a yr, depending on the yr (this yr will be only 3500-4000 miles)
I just took 6 weeks off to deal with a neck issue: fixed
I have 2 track bikes, 2 vintage bikes, 3 on/offs (Enduro-Duals) and 4 Baja bikes.
My truck has 1 Rockstar decal on the left-side-rr window (used to ID it among it's twin) & a 66 Foundation decal.
I wear the EXACT gear I want...head to toe: Gaerne, TLD, Leatt, Dragon...PERIOD.
All my track "casual wear" is usually O'Neill, Quickilver or the like...thanks to my wife & daughter.
I do have plenty of Rockstar shirts, hats & what-not: those guys are really, really good to me.
I run Pirellii AND Dunlop, depending on the mood. Bibs are even making their way on to my MX bikes.
Guts seats, UFO or stock plastic, ODI bars & grips, Galfer brakes, Engine Ice, DT-1 filters, Bel-Ray Oils, Baja Designs lighting...& I'll only ride/race bikes prepped by a few people I know.
I actually think Stock Suspension is very capable...with the help of a tool box.
I run VP Racing Fuel; because, I'm worth it.
I don't think ANY OF THE Big 5-6 make a "Bad Bike".
I love 2 strokes; but, I ain't all bat-shit crazy about the issue and I DON'T BLAME HONDA.
My favorite series this year: The Rockstar Canadian Nationals
My favorite racer is: that little kid that's jus' barely makes it around the track and is SO STOKED to be racing.
My favorite track: too many...from Mammoth to Millville to Baja Acres to hidden hillside tracks at Hollister.
My favorite bike as of today: Husky FC450 slightly over the 450SXF (actual '15s)...purely ergonomic.
Favorite Race: A-1, Millville or Mammoth Vet Weekend...or plenty of others not recalled...for now.
My opinion of all the "regulars" wearing their Fox shirts & Oakley glasses: look what we've spawned, nice!
My opinion of Web-Warriors claiming to be "Core": priceless Entertainment
My favorite truck: 2017 Ford Raptor Supercrew
My favorite Miss SX: no idea. I certainly don't mind watching DD walk thru the Tunnel.

And I have a blast every single time I ride. If I can't ride well.. at least I'll look good!

I have never tried one of those nasal strips. But just so I know . If I wear one at say the bigger pro am races I should be ok ? Just don't at the normal sat races . There are just so many things to think about now, Haveing to ride 12 20 min Motos what shirt to wear if I can or can not have a sticker can only ride a old clapped out bike and now this nasal strip deal. Fuck it. I am just Gona be a poser

Every single person who is not a professional motorcycle rider, but has mini number board stickers with their number on them is a f*ckn A grade poser in my mind.

Also spoke skins, powder coated alloy twin spar frames, monster branded apparel and pretty much 100% of moto related tattoos.

Last but not least: tattoos that are your last name in large letters. Such bad taste. #WWDD (What would Deegan do)
