This was done with the off road guys in the 80s, though Roeseler used KX80 engines instead of 50cc.

Think they used to have an 80 class in the isde..

Engine I used is an old type derbi engine, there are people using KTM 50cc engines as well. Those are just more expensive to buy separately.

How much time do they get out of those engines before they need rebuilt?

What are they doing extra to keep them cool?

The top bikes have a new piston every race, I can do 2 races with mine..
Crankshaft is roughly 3/4 races we just check it every now and then

This is actually a very innovative approach to racing IMO.

Manual clutches? Last year, Aleix Espargaro was posting pics and vids of some YZ125s of his that had 50cc two stroke motors in them. Would love to see more pictures and videos of these things!

They had a ISDE class that was big bikes with 80cc engines. Team Green would make one off bikes for guys like Roeseler. There were also a lot of 200cc KX125s back then.

Those bikes must be a serious labor of love, both to build and maintain. Looks like a blast! Woohoo

Move along, move along, no fun to be had here...

Gotta have a 250f or 450f or you'll never get a factory ride.

Looks fun, but clearing some of the jumps like they were I'd be afraid one of those little fukkers would lockup at the wrong moment.

When I was a kid my Dad bought a kart (Moss kart frame) for us that had a Yamaha 60cc engine on it that the original builder had just left in second gear with no shifter. Dad fabricated a shift lever and linkage so we could run it through the gears. Damn thing hauled ass but would only last about two hard outings before needing rebuilt especially if you got it off of the pavement and got a little dust involved.

Fun times for us when it was running.

Wow, this might look like the most fun you can have on a moto bike...Like pit bike racing, but bigger.
