Trace rode the class thinking it was a "Youth" class and not an "Amateur" class.
Guess it was a good thing Trace did not qualify this year in this class as it would have been a MAJOR disappointment for him. Traces B-day is 7-23.
So how does the Schoolboy 12-16 get to run under youth rules and not the 250C 12-16 class?
Bogus I say.. Bogus!
Competition Bulletin 2015-11: Clarification of Age Limitations of 250 C (12-16) Limited Class.

SUBJECT: COMPETITION BULLETIN 2015-11:
Clarification of Age Limitations of 250 C (12-16) Limited Class
It is necessary to set forth the official application of the age rule with regard to the new 250 C (12-16) Limited (Class 6). Section C.2 the 2015 AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship National Supplemental Rules provides:
For Youth classes, the age of the rider on January 1 will determine their age for the reminder of the year. For classes 14-18, the age of the rider is determined by their age as of the first day of National competition (July 28, 2015). For all other classes, the age of the rider is determined as of the date of the event (i.e., Area Qualifier).
The new 250 C (12-16) Limited class is an Amateur class, not a Youth class. Accordingly, the age of the rider is determined as of the date of the event (i.e., Area Qualifier). This provision has been interpreted to mean not only the date of the Area Qualifier, but the Regional and the National. Hence, riders must be between the ages of (12-16) at the time of the Regional in order to be eligible to compete at the Regional, and between the ages of (12-16) as of July 28 - the official date of the National - in order to compete at the National.
This means that riders that turn 17 between the date of the Regional and July 28 may continue to compete at the Regional, but will be prohibited from competing at the National.
We hope this information will alleviate any further confusion or misunderstanding.

My Bday is July 27 and previously the Vet classes were your age as of the first day of the National. So I could always attempt to qualify as a younger age knowing I would turn that age by the National.
Again, it would be an easy mistake to make.

This email that you posted came out because there were several people who: A) did not read the rules correctly to begin with or B ) thought they could beat the system.
C class is and will always be an Amateur class.
This gives the kids coming off mini bikes that are not fast enough to run B a shot at something.. I like the class. But, I have already seen some of the up and coming hot shoes in the Supermini classes switching over to this class to try and win a title.
By creating this class, MX Sports, unfortunately, gave themselves another class that will require heavy policing in the future. Everyone wants to play the "...but..but...but, he was hurt for 2 years!!" card. I say eliminate the C classes all together at LL, no need for them to me, but I do realize they are big money makers for MX Sports, so they will continue to be the joke of the week.
Who these "hotshoes" you talking about?
I remember being young AF but you have some time to ponder life during that week and when watching the C class I saw a few riders better than me. I remember thinking.... that kid is the fastest Novice in the USA. Which means you are already a B rider, apparently.
That was 12 years ago. I'm getting old.
Youth side riders - Age of January 1st
Am side - Age of the rider on the first day of LL's
I can see where the area qualifiers may have been confused since everyone is combined.
Pit Row
If I had known (or understood the age issue for this class) I would have spent the $$ in some other class for the area and regional qualifiers.
Righteous dude!
.
If you've raced your whole adult life in the A and Pro class, even A classes at LL, you should have to race the A class. Just my opinion...
Sportsmen was a way to try eliminate pros from the working man wasn't it ?
If you have an A rider, or past pro you feel is riding in the Sportsman class at LL's just email that name and class to Kip Bigelow at the AMA. If you are uncomfortable with that, send it to me. I'll be sure to get it to the people that can actually do something about it.
We all know sandbagging happens everywhere, but few are willing to point it out to the people that can have a positive impact on the problem. Let's clean it up so there's less to complain about..
(A pro national point)
Post a reply to: This just screwed a few riders at LL's...
