Oh man , bummer news! Grew up racing tracks he announced at and he lived near by. As kids riding our 80's through the neighborhood to get to the desert we would always see him outside and stop to chat. He hooked me up with gear a time or 2, 25 years ago. Awesome guy.

Wow - I met Larry first in the mid 80s racing CRC and he was an announcer just starting to to SX stuff. I think he even raced a little back then.
What a mouth on that guy - RIP

I met Larry back in the 80's when he was over at AXO. Great guy.

Like many of you. I met Larry when he was working for AXO, would run into him about once a year when I lived in Mammoth, different places. At the bike shop, at the track. Once at the auto parts store. Always put a smile on your face when you saw him. He touched everyone around him. I remember when he got his RMZ450, one of Ricky's old bikes, he loved that bike. He was so stoked to be riding again. It was great to see him just having fun. He was always super positive and a great person to be around. The world is a little bit less without Larry.

Go fast and take chances. You will be missed.

Hi,

This is Brian Naston, his son. My mom and I just found this video on this forum, and it brought us so much happiness, tears, and joy. I can't thank you enough for posting this, this is exactly as I remember him and shows how fun, full of life, and great he was. I keep rewatching it over and over. The service in his honor will be this Thursday, June 18th at 10 a.m. at Desert Vineyard church on Avenue I and Challenger Way. All are welcome to attend. Thank you so much again, best wishes to you and your family.

I hadn't heard much of him lately. Was he in poor health? I think he announced a Fire and Police mx race in the early 90s and was FPMX first contact guy for event support too.
To the Naston family, so sorry for your loss. RIP.

Brian I am sorry for you and your mother's loss. I hung out with your dad a little in the 90s and he loved going to Elsa's Mexican Restaurant with my buddy Phil Alderton AKA Flipper and his wife when he was in Dayton Ohio.

Here is something from Racerhead March 2008 that speaks to your father's place in this sport. That was a huge deal for Jason AKA Weege to get a shot to work with your father and look at where Jason Weigandt is today.

Totally caught me off guard. Last I talked to him was about a year ago. I think he was at Factory Effex. He sounded great. I announced some Mickey Thompson events in Houston and New Orleans with him in the early 90's. Even worked with him while I was an AXO rep in Texas in the early 90's.

He will be missed by many!!!

Your Dad was a huge influence in my career. His announcing at LACR, Micky Thomson races, supercross, and the radio show was one of the reasons I became popular. I would ride my bicycle down to AXO once or twice a week to talk to Larry & the guys about the last weekends race and he would always give his opinion of how I did. He was not shy about that! I am not on social media at all , but when I heard the news I had to write something about Larry. He was a great mentor to me and a lot of other people to. Sorry for your family's loss. M.K.

The services this morning for Larry were held with a full house of family and friends. An emotional time for all as a celebration of his life and to bid farewell. I was asked if I had brought a camera and was planning on taking photos...no on both accounts, as that's simply not my way, especially today. However, I reluctantly offered to do as I was asked....I was only able to photograph the displays that his family had prepared as well as one with his compadres from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department....and then...I was done...no more today...especially today.

I am somewhat prepared for the major razzing that I well get the next time that I see Larry- "You left all of that equipment at home and shot this with a @* iPhone?!?!...what's that about??? Yeah Brother, I did...sorry. I can hardly wait for this one.

I've posted a few shots on my web site in Larry's gallery. If you would like to have a look just google Announcer Larry Naston and that will bring up the link.

My very best to Larry's family during this time, and to all of his friends, as they are part of his extended family as well.
