What really sucks is Eli will be lucky if is ready for A1 with a 100 percent tear of the rotator cuff. Anyone with this type of injury will tell you that your shoulder will never be the same. 6 moths is the norm for the shoulder to be semi normal I've had both of mine torn and it was really a year before they were going to be as good as they were going to get.

I wish him the best luck on this

The 450 class just got a lot less interesting for me Sad
Why?... we HAD 3 top tier riders... now we got 2... No Tomac... No Canard... No Poto... No Stewart... No RavIoli... No Nagl...
No Paulin... No Desalle... No Ferris... No Bobryshev...

Someone else might win a moto if something freaky happens... IMO...Pinch

Bad, bad deal for Tomac. Hope he takes the time to heal up right but that it happens in a short period as well.

Kind of reminds me of the year it looked like Alessi might get it done and then kaboom, over just like that.

Downhills. gravity, hard ground, and sudden stops off the rubber make for a bad deal.

Worst part is he had really turned it up and was showing everyone that dominating speed that we only got to see on a few occasions this year indoors. He had Dungey doing some serious searching for answers concerning what it was going to take to run with him or should he even try to.

Hopefully when he is healed and ready he can come back just as strong or stronger.

The rougher the track, the larger the risk. I don't understand how people can't understand this. You would think people would take notice given all the riders that have been dropping like flies. Watch the GP's practice, the tracks aren't being plowed 2ft deep before hand. So far the GP's are faster, safer, and making for way closer racing. No matter how you want to spin It, this is mainly do to track prep. Sure, someone can wreck on a smooth track, but chances go way up when the tracks look like a endurocross. I'm sorry If I'd rather see the top contenders stay In the fight for more than 4 weeks while going more than 30mph, but that's Just me. There is no better way to decrease viewership than to lose your top talents.
You've obviously missed all the GP riders complaining about how dangerous the last track was...they hated it because it was sketchy, rutted narrow and one lined...people seem to confuse riders getting stacked up behind slower riders because they can't pass on a one lined blue grooved supermoto style track as close racing...

God I feel so bad for Eli, I have watched that crash over and over and I can only think he was just going too fast for his shock settings, because he didn't seem to do anything else to get the bike to go sideways.

2016 supercross is going to be tough for him to make at this point, I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I know first hand that kind of rehab takes 9 months before he can even think about riding.
Now I have heard everything Whistling " I can only think he was just going too fast for his shock settings" Laughing Laughing Laughing

If you go faster than your skills or the bike will allow you won't finish in first place. Metering this is part of race craft. ET3 was hauling A$$, but it bit him again.

FWIW ET3 is breaking new ground here, bike technology and rider skill level will catch up.

Leave the tracks out of this, what other rider is out for the season because of Thunder Valley?

Exactly! If the goal is to be rougher like GP tracks..it seems they need to be dryer so more square edge stuff forms instead of what we've seen so far. Granted, this weekend with 20+ days of rain, probably inevitable but still could have brought out the dozer during the day. Yes, the GP sand tracks get crazy rough but Eli might have escaped this bad an injury hitting the sand as opposed to that conrcrete this past weekend. Somewhere, maybe here, someone said many of the guys were 100% focused on the ruts, trying to stay in them and not even focused on the other riders. That doesn't seem to make for the best racing IMO.

Dudes, it isn't the track. JS7 effed himself up on a supermoto track. Think about it for a second: Supermoto, not a single rut in sight.
And ask RV if the GP tracks are safer...

The worst news ET and the entire MX world could have gotten for the 2015 season.

Tomac is by far the fastest in the 450s and Webb is the only one who could have challenged Martin IMO.

No Tomac, Canard, Villo, Stewart, etc. No series!

250s Martin will crush unless he wads it up!

I have to think that this was a business decision though period. I am just guessing and I certainly don't know the complete doctors findings, but I'm sure that he has signed his Kawi deal!
If you had ever torn your rotator you would understand. They said he had a complete tear. You cannot even raise your effected arm. Business decision? Come on man.......

Damn 450's and big jumps. If he was on a 2 stroke that would have never happened.

Everyone is mentioning how the season is less interesting now.. The dude has been smoking everyone by 20+ seconds the last five motos. At least now I can keep watching past lap 3. Heal up Eli, never fun to see a young kid get hurt.

The huge problem I have with a full tear is I can not sleep on the side with the 100% tear and I have no strength when I try to lift things up with the arm extended. For instance getting a gas can out of the back of the pick up. I have adjusted by keeping the load close to my body. in my mid 60's they will be able to do a reverse replacement to ease the night time pain.

I blame this 100% on track Prep. There is no damn need for braking bumps as big as a small child, and ruts 2ft deep. They must rethink how they prepare the track in the mornings. That track had some of the squirrelliest ruts I've ever seen. I don't care to watch 15mph racing around half the damn track. There has been WAY to many Injuries for this early In the season. I'll be watching only the GP's from here on out.

I'm a big fan of both Dungey and Eli. I hate seeing this happen to ET. Was hoping Dungey would pick things up as things headed back east and tighten things up. KR seems to be getting back in a grove so he might still make it interesting. Hope ET gets all healed up and comes back stronger than ever. He is still young and has plenty of time for more titles. Hope he takes as much time as needed and does not push it and come back to soon just to make A1.

Check this out... Dungey came close to a bad one that could of put himself out... What's the difference? sometimes luck...
If you want to see my point go to the link then advance the video to 33:54 seconds of the moto... it's also :27 seconds
left in the moto before 2 laps... very close call... It's 450 moto 1...

That sucks. Eli was looking as confident as I've ever seen anyone really. Hope he's able to come back as strong next year. It never ceases to amaze me how in this sport the course of an entire season can change in a split second

Rougher tracks are better period. Rough tracks do not cause crashes. if rough tracks were the cause of crashes there would not be crashes in Moto GP, NASCAR, horse racing etc. All racing has crashes and "most" crashes can be avoided by the right wrist. Roczen was 20 seconds behind Tomac in 9 laps when Tomac crashed! Why because Roczen was not twisting his right wrist as far as Tomac and guess what Dungey was turning his right even less than Roczen.

This is a real bummer. Get well soon Eli.

The physical aspect will be difficult enough, maybe impossible to make a 100% recovery regardless of time. With that said, what about the philological aspect? Many believe that at this level it's THE factor separating all the front runners. The old adage that the best racers have short (or at least selective) memories is probably very true. That was a violent crash, and by his own admission, he doesn't know what went wrong. If he made a forced error, he could vow never to make that mistake again. But to not know, that instills uncertainty into his mind and that's a killer for confidence.

Maybe that's another virtue for Dungy's speed philosophy. If he never gets badly hurt, he can't play those tapes in the back of his mind. And based on personal experience, those memories can haunt a racer. Before my uncountable broken bones, ruptured liver, torn ACLs, concussions, punctured lungs (you get the point), when I looked at a track I only saw opportunities to go faster. Now, there very few sections where I don't re-live some agonizing incident from my past and self-preservation turns the gas down just a tad. Of course, after 43 years of racing things can pile up!

Eli was riding better than he ever has, his confidence must have been sky high and the outlook very promising. Unless he's mentally strong and able to block the negative and focus on the positive, the long rehab will just give him more time to reflect on the seemly random "act of fate". In the best of circumstances, he'll be off the bike for some time and will need to recalibrate physically and mentally. I wouldn't count on him pushing in SX unless he's 100% in both areas.

Will Eli ever show the same dominating speed like the first 3 rounds? Time will tell, but many extremely talented races have succumbed to lesser circumstances. Trey Canard is the poster boy for injury comebacks and as a result I can't help but feel he's lost that half step, hesitates just a microsecond, and continues to make some bad decisions resulting in directly or indirectly crashing hard and having to retire for the season. I feel bad for him, I don't want to see him (or any rider) maimed for life. I always have my fingers crossed when I watch Trey (or JS7) start to push it.

I Hope Eli sees a sports psychologist while he healing. In the meantime, unless KR can make a charge (consistently), it's going to be a boring 450 outdoor season, unless you're a Dungy fan.
