So incredibly bummed to see this. As a MX fan from the outside, I can understand having little empathy because you didn't like the track, but this facility was not a motocross facility. Just for that one race a year (which they put a ton of work into to try and make as awesome as possible.)

The road racing track is absolutely incredible and the groups that run track days and racing for road bikes are some awesome guys. I go out there monthly for sportbike trackdays and it's such a good time.

Really hope they find someone to take it over, otherwise this will be a huge blow to motorsport fans and racers in Utah.

Its a shame , but the 'build it and they will come' ethos can only go so far , a friend of mine went there and said it was an awsome place, but it was just miles from anywhere.. people will only come so far . We are lucky here in the UK, i have had 2 MX GP's , an MXoN, F1 MotoGP and WSB within 40 mins of my house, we have good tracks , for all Tarmac based motorsports, but there will always be somebody who decides building one in the middle of nowhere will work , the British Moto GP is supposed to be moving to an unbuilt track in Wales next year, they have had to pay someone to host the race till then,

Miller was the right idea in the wrong place IMO , COTA just nailed the location better.. and so it wins .

I live near the park, and its had issues right from the start. It was an expensive hobby for Larry H Miller. If he were alive, the place would be staying open. He was a good dude and never had problems losing money for a cause, track, restaurant, or workers within his organization. If Larry liked you, or your company, you could do no wrong, and he had your back. He was a multi-millionaire, content to make "enough".

Once his son took over, all that went away. He came in and cleaned house. I know hes abetter businessman, and you cant fault him for that, but instead of working for a "friend" we all started working for someone all of us call a" dick".

The track wont/cant make money, so its gone.

Utah is closed on Sunday. That means the track needs to operate, all year, on what might amount to 15 saturdays.

I'd like to see them give it back to Freestone, but it feels like the overall attitude from the racers was that it got a bit to hot for their egos.

Just my opinion.

...Their Egos?

YOU go and try to do practice plus 2 35 minute motos in that heat and recover in time for next week.

This thread is full of more stupid than usual.

Thats like putting 10 grand of accessories on a leased rig...........only idiots do that.

What happend? Can't afford the lease? County wants it shut down?

Don't be a douche, MMP was about far more than just MX. It's one of the true great road courses in the world.

Millers pay little to nothing for that land lease. I can't say how much, but you would be shocked.

I work at MMP some weekends, absolutely no one knew this was coming. In fact, the news told everyone before the employers did.

+1. I love mx but the investment in a road course is so much more costly. To lose one of the best in the U.S., boo.

You are 100% right, after Larry Miller died the company turned into just another company full of A holes and back stabbers. Larry Miller made the company great but his Wife and son are not admired, neither are most of the people in the upper part of the corporation, the good parts of the company died when Larry died. Sad

I like the idea of Southwick coming back. I see some people say it's too hard and some say it's too soft. I'm holding off judgment until I ride the new layout next Sunday.
The current Southwick is not the old Southwick, it's more like the really old Southwick.

Damn, that's just sad. Hate to see a park close! Especially under these type of circumstances.

I shouldn't post this, but I will never work for them again, so whatever. The main guy now, in the family, does things like this. You expect him to keep a money losing track open? This happened so fast, it had to be a priority to him.

The family also owns a Movie Theater in Sandy, Ut. Nicest theater in town. At one point I had to back into the snack bar area when working on some equipment. This was about two weeks after Larry died.

I saw this list of names, and immediately recognized most of the names on the list as being "the family". I asked the guy in charge, making 8.50 per hr,whats this? He said this was "THE LIST" of people who get free everything when they visit. "Junior" had just sent this out.

No one on the list wasn't making six figures, and most made much more. I said, "Oh that cool, so you get comped as part of your job?"

"No", he said. Us workers get 10% off.

I thought about how embarrassed I would be demanding my free popcorn from the special needs guy who got 10% off. Especially when the 12.00 spent on food came right back to me?

Where was my integrity? Trying something different and exploring new areas and giving various regions and facilities a chance has long been part of my MO (and so has coming on here and listening to constructive and helpful criticism and feedback, plus the occasional insult. Comes with the territory -- and my integrity.)

These folks tried hard. It wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but they tried really hard and I respect the effort that the whole Miller organization made to build a world-class racing facility and make it work.

Classy as always, much appreciated DC. I wasn't a fan of MMP as a national, like many others, but I don't view trying new things as bad. Even if you go in the 'wrong' direction, at least you have an idea of what might or might not work.

Will be interesting to see what venue shows up in 2016.

Keithsburg, IL. For those that insist on a deep sand track, they don't come much deeper than this.

Was I the only one expecting something much more egregious than the guy comping his family some popcorn and soda when they go to the family owned movie theater?

It may be a new record- even for Vital standards.

You do realize that MMP was only 40 minutes from Salt Lake City (and the international airport), right? It's hardly Miles from anywhere (if your friend came from the Nevada side or from the South it could seem like it's in the middle of nowhere...but if you come from the east, there is no way anyone would say it's miles from anywhere).

But your point is valid, in that people will only travel so far...that track was within an hour and a half of about 2 million people....the problem is, a facility like that needs to be within an hour and a half of 10 million people to be profitable.
