How to make SX better.

1. Less rounds maybe 14. the less rounds end a boring series quicker and less points to fight over making a tight season harder.

2. upgrade the 250 class to a national series.
2a. add a third class. 125 regionals again. perhaps this runs during the day after qualifying and before the night show which is for National series so as not to make the night show longer. OR run it in the night show in between the endless minutes in between each race. Seriously Am racing can do twice as many motos in the time it takes a supercross.

3. two moto format, maybe 10min +2 laps long. this gives us more racing to watch(that matters unlike heats and semis, not that i have a problem with them) with olympic scoring 2-2 beats a 1-3. points are awarded to overall not moto finish.

4. Better track.:New minds need to be brought in to think up tracks. Seriously no track is an original idea, . Honestly some of the best tracks were ones designed by riders. 2009 had a handful and they were all great

Make the main event riders pit inside the stadium as they qualify and the riders stay there with 1 mechanic.

Require a 8oz Red Bull can as the fuel cell which would mean a pit stop to refuel. (only 1/2 kidding) or shorten each race.

Make every one run bikes closer to stock
I see no reason to give the faster guys
an advantage with better bikes
Factory bikes
/guico/pc bikes.

run stock motors and suspension
would
1 slow things down
2 make it more affordable for every one
3 make it fair

if this happened it wouldn't be a surprise to see a privateer get an occasional win

Facepalm, you don't think Dungey on a stock bike is going to beat partridge on a stock bike?
Yes I do think Dungey would still win
..I have no doubt that the top guys have talent
But perhaps the racing would be closer
And less lapping etc
.. I'm just saying why take the already Faster
Riders and give them the unfair advantage
.. I'd like to see a Trans am like series with everyone on equal equipment .
As it stands now
It's like going to a Nascar Race with a stock
Impala ..

I go the other way, nobody is running stock anyways. I say take the gloves off.

Longer LCQ's
No semi's
125/250 replaces 250/450
No production rule, allow 2strokes
2 15 lap mains for each class, 2nd motos run the track reversed
10-12 rounds max. We don't need 3 anaheims or 2 atlantas.
more by-weeks, longer break before the nationals start

Longer LCQ's? Please explain.

I like the run the track backwards idea.

Lightning can strike twice. First turn pileup in the heat? Probably going to the LCQ. First turn pileup in the LCQ? You're done! Give them a few more laps, a top rider can come from half a lap down and get into a transfer position in a LCQ field if they had a little more time, but not the way it is now.

NASCAR has shown that a playoff system will not make the championship closer this is why they have had to reset points multable times in the chase to keep it close. Who cares how close the championship is as long as the racing is close. This year we have had some of the best racing is years.

Ban the ghost software factory teams use to figure out the best/fastest lines.

Allow equal displacement between 2 and 4 strokes.

Most if not all tracks need 2 whoop sections, one of which has to be the super deep gnarly style whoops we all love.

Add more technical sections like the walls before a sand section or something along those lines. Anything that slows a rider down is pretty much considered a good add.

Tighten the tracks up (shorter straight sections), harder to figure out layouts but would add more corners inside each stadium which will slow the tracks down and possibly add to the racing.

We need to always keep the above in mind.

Supercross came after motocross and the concept was to put on a show. Keep in mind motocross is the root of racing and its hardcore racing but for SX I will suggest the following.

1. Slow the tracks down for safety.

2. Make the tracks super easy so everyone can go as quick as each other. This will eliminate some of the advantages of factory suspension thus closing the gap a little between the factory elite and the privateer.

3. Throw aways - over a 15 round series I would allow each rider to throw away their three worst rounds. Dungey would still win it and deservingly so but the points will tighten up big time.

Any thought and opinions from the professionals here?
There is nothing wrong with SX or MX.
Men and women will still get together and race like they always have and they have done it without the exposure and live TV and were still able to have sponsorship and great racing. You do it because you love it bottom line.
We don't need to Nascarize or pussify the sport with mandatory yellows and Joker lanes. They were racing motorsports, both 2 and 4 wheel way before TV and it was good, and people still came together and raced and they still had spectators and fans.

2 rounds drawn at random.... where the mechanic is the rider and the rider turns the wrenches...
Drug testing during opening ceremonies...with results back by the time the mains are over...to see who gets to keep their points...
1 round ... at random...where the rider is penalized a lap....

if the spirit of throwing out odd ideas. how about elimination qualifying

everyone starts in the heats but you have to qualify to make it to the semit, then the LCQ then the main. so say only top 15 move on from heats, the 5 who didnt make it are eliminated and go home early. so instead of the top guys getting a break they have to stay out longer.

the ideal would be this would create LCQ panic which makes everyone fight over transfer spots like Michael Jackson and a Priest with a little boy in between them

Ghost software to find the best lines? Are you talking about the riders mind? stick to turbos on 200cc wonder bikes.

I have no clue what your talking about on the wonder bikes so I'll let that be.

The ghost software I'm talking about, and sorry I don't have a name for it, is where they can video overlay 2 riders taking a corner, line or certain section of the track on a computer in order to analyze exactly which line or combo is the fastest. Yes, any great racer can do this naturally but with the overlay software there is no question about whats faster so I believe that is somewhat to blame for all the "one lined" and "hard to pass tracks" because all the top guys know which line is the fastest and they continue to take it for obvious reasons. Sure there are plenty of other reasons for track issues but banning this software sure wouldn't hurt.

Dug this up from page 4 just to make one simple suggestion that I think would make the racing more exciting, because at the core of every business in the product, and the races in SX are the product.

What if they banned video recordings in practice? No dartfish, no reviewing the tape to see which line was .01 faster than another, just good old fashioned observation. I understand there are 100 "yea, but.." things that could be said about this idea, but it's a small change, one that I would be interested to see it's impact on the races.

no banked turns, 250 class and 125 class, bring back the claiming rule(which means you can buy the winning bike for a set price).
Add some variety to the start, has grand prix type starts where you run to your bike then get it started and go. add more sand and water sections. Last but least, a 92db limit.

Design the tracks to look more like the 90's And put them all on 2 strokes

Re write the production bike rule, production suspension,
Less jumps on the track.
Smaller obstacles.

Make it real again.

Why is is that SX is targeted for change but not MX? I would say the format primarily because all the races are for the points.

I do think the big bikes as a support class (250f) is a leftover from an era when there was more cash flowing.

Perhaps a Mini class for the kids that pass all the big bikes anyway's?

This is more for both supercross and Nationals but I believe they need to do away with all of the factory parts and ride production bikes with suspension. Make it even for everyone. No motor work or anything not available to the public

I like some of these ideas, and this is what I'd like to implement (in regards to the suggestions above): Bring back the 125s and make that the Regional SX series; only amateur support in that class, no factory involvment. Make the 250sx class another full fledged title class. Leave the 450sx class as is. Cut it down to 12 rounds so the racers aren't the walking dead when they hit the outdoor nationals. Just my opinion from the cheap seats...

15 plus 2 and 20 plus 2 lap mains...

125 two strokes small class.

250 four strokes big class.

More technical and overall slower tracks.

More dirt.

More sand.

More everything really. Supercross isn't super anymore–arenacross whoops are the biggest in the world now.

Berms–everywhere. Bring some damn catch nets around the stadium wall ala baseball.

Rider designed tracks for 10 rounds.

Over and Under at least 10 rounds.

Introduce points for heat wins–same as current mains, and double points for mains. That way people who don't qualify for mains also garner points and can use them for sponsor applications.

Not sure if having the Monster Chicks laying face down with their tops off at the tops of the jumps will make the actual racing more exciting, but I am sure there will be plenty of people tuning in!

No timed practices to qualify. Everyone races to get in the night show. I don't give a shit who can "Bust out the fastest lap" Yawn.... I want to see a gate drop and racing. And yes some nights a "Star" might have bad luck and not make it, just as some nights a "Nobody" might make the night show. More racing, less qualifying

I think we can all agree that the current SX format has gotten a bit stale. They have made some tweaks that have improved it. Specifically bringing back the semis so we get more racing. That has been a good addition.

We need to rethink the traditional format and do something different. We need more action. More meaningful racing. We need to see more passes. More privateers starting up front and more stars battling through the pack.

All you need to do is these two things.....

1. Invert the start order for main events. Last qualifier gets first gate pick and so on.

I know what you are saying, this will make people sandbag in the qualifiers. See item number two. Item two is important for item one to work.

2. Give out some championship points in the qualifiers as well as for mains. This will eliminate sandbagging completely. Make the points meaningful and you will see epic qualifiers. Everyone knows how important points are and this will insure no one sandbags. Star riders will race to win the qualifiers just as they do now.

If these two things were implemented then the racing would drastically improve. There is nothing better then seeing a star rider come through the pack. We want to see passes and racing, not follow the leader. The start has become too important with the current format.

Inverting the main event start order would make it so privateers start up front more and the star riders might start in the back a bit more. The cream will always rises to the top. We just might be able to see more passes. Everyone always hopes one of the stars gets a bad start so we can see them come through the pack. Why? Because we want to see them skillfully and relentlessly race to the front.

Bad idea to penalize the fastest guys. Merely stop giving them 1st pick and go back to the lotto like it used to be.

So what do you do when it gets popular again and you have 120 riders trying to get in the night show in each class? Not the main event. Races all day long like the Amateur's?

The top 10 in series points are currently exempt and get to ride (practice) on press day.
