I just hope that we get to see the 2013 Villopoto for most of the year. I don't doubt for a second he came here to win the championship, but maybe he just isn't training as hard or motivated as much. Maybe he's still acclimating to the travel and the format. Maybe his fitness isn't up to par yet. I'm not sure. I hope something changes. What he's doing right now isn't working. I know he still got 4th, but anyone who has watched him the past 5 years knows he just doesn't look the same. I'll use 2014 SX as an example. Many people were saying something wasn't right. It was obvious. He was getting caught from behind and playing the consistency game a lot. Then it finally surfaces around Vegas that he rode the majority of the year with a torn ACL. He still dominated the series, but he just seemed off. This GP series is the toughest challenge of his entire career, and anything less than a 2013 Villopoto won't win this championship. His competition is the toughest he's ever had. Some people say he's doing good and that expectations are too high. I disagree. Anyone who has watched him the last 5 years knows that by his standards, this championship has been a disaster so far.

I'm not anti RV, far from it. I admire the fact that he is giving mxgp a very good effort, I just enjoy the banter with the US fans who don't rate the GPs or the riders. It's all good fun, great racing and not meant to offend. Bring on the 2nd motos!!!!!
Is that a pic of you taking your boyfriend for a ride?

Where do you see combined points standings for both classes for the GPs?

He pretty much admitted that in Thailand, he went too hard in the qualifying race, and it left him with nothing much in the tank for the second moto. You'd think the lesson might have been learnt, but maybe not.

(Although obviously, the man has still forgotten more about how to win elite level motocross races than I will ever know, and he doesn't need to be taking pointers of Joe Sixpacks like me)

Great race though, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Cairoli come out and dominate the second moto. Be fun finding out.
I was thinking the same. Just an outsiders opinion but I think he needs to chill in the qualy race. Even with good gate picks his starts haven't been that great so maybe take it a little easier the first day.

These guys have mastered rolling the throttle on choppy nasty sand tracks. In RV's case less will be more.
Yup I agree, RV seemed to be fighting the bike a bit and getting out of shape a lot more. Could be a set-up issue but on certain tracks I think he may have to smoothen up his style a bit to beat these guys.

True. Strange, because he rode so awesome yesterday. Cairoli's riding awesome, though. Could just be his day.
It was smooth yesterday! Smile
Hmm, I don't think it's that simple. Despite what GP regulars think, he's raced rough tracks his entire life and this track isn't exactly Lommel. Seems more like a bike/setup issue that led to a fatigue issue.

Hmmm... A few beers into the racing...

I, as many, have followed/watched RV2 for years. GP fan as well.

Most times, an "off" day for RV2 will yield him a decent result - not 20 seconds off the leader. Settings? Who knows. I don't. 4th ain't the end of the world.

The plain facts are the competition is tough in GP as all get out.

Cairoli has gonads the size of grapefruit for going for the win. Desalle was incredibly fast and that is it. Max ran well.

Assholes bashing RV2 are losers...As are those who denigrate the "Euros". They are all racers, regardless of "Country of Origin". All cool folk in any book. I hope Herlings can show well in moto 2... He is an awesome force!

All in all, great racing. Here's hoping for more great racing!

And hell yes, GO RV2!

Dude STFU RV started 10th and ran AC ass down yesterday. You really think RV was not having a bike set up?

RV is fine... he is very fast like he always is when the track is smooth and suits his USA style - wide open.

But this is the world championship... every track is different and you are going to different countries every week and it's rougher. Being wide open doesn't always work... you have to be versatile, that's what makes you the best in the world. That's why AC is currently the best... he has all the pieces of the puzzle.

You can never claim a guy winning his own national championship is the best in the world until he does it in the World Championship - it's the toughest outdoor series in the world.

RV can still win this title but he needs to become more versatile with his riding and quickly, his one dimensional style works in the USA or on tracks that suit him but this GP series is the a different ballgame. He is good enough to figure it out and it will make him a better rider but he is 25 points down to Desalle already, he needs to come out swinging next moto!

Please, educate us how a 'being the best' handles it. But start with posting your championship results in the nationals or GP's so you have some credibility

Villopoto's corner speed looked off to me. Heavy soil, looks to be too far down into it. yesterday he looked to be more on top of the soil with more corner speed.

All the great champions despise losing. Losing and the hate of losing inspires them to push harder and farther than their competition. If you don't know that already, well you apparently don't study the champions much. And if you think I or anyone else need to be a national champion in motocross to know that in general about them, you are a true idiot and the one with zero credibility.

I dont think ive ever been this excited for a motocross series ever. SX, nationals and previous GPs included.. The racing is awesome! You never know who will win. In the coming moto, paulin can get a good start and win it, van hoorbeek holeshots and wins, RV holeshots and wins, man, even febvre could win if hes lucky. Love it!

Exactly, just like the track changes the riders adjust their intensity as well. Can't compare a qualification to a race.

Noob Laughing Good one.

Wow what a race in the end there. RV needs to step it up, the sparkle he had yesterday was gone in this moto? No excuse, hope he can figure it out of for the second moto. Very impressed by Clement even do he made some mistakes he held it steady! How fast things can change there when AC went down, lucky he didnt get injured. Needs to find some speed now Ryan ! 4th ok but not near what he want !

RV is going to be better 2nd moto, trust me. And all you guys who say he's a 4th to 6th guy, shut your fucking face up. It's his 3rd fucking round of his LIFE in the GP's. And he's getting top 5's. That's enough to make all your Euro racers look like pussies. I'm sad for all you guys when he hits his stride in a few rounds!!

RV got one foot through the retirement door. When you start mentioning retirement you're already retired. RV wanted out and this was his best option. No excuses, but is he committed like he was 2 or 3 years ago? Take nothing away from Tony and the gang they are world class riders for sure.
I just think if RV was serious about winning a world title, he would of signed up for 2 years.
He may still be getting used to the longer weekends, travel etc.and could definetely start winning at any time to
By the way i am pulling for AC to win it all, i have been a fan for many years. For as much winning as he has done, he is the most humble, pleasant awesome champion i have ever seen, just a cool dude and a total badass on a bike
