He's thinking that this will blow over in a week, just like everything else does on vital. No need to respond.

Nobody wants to stop the gravy train. The only thing I might expect to see are a new class of smaller displacement full size four strokes if that. None of them (kdub, fro, ect) pushed for actual 125s to come back. They just said there was a gap between 85s and 250Fs (and many of us have been saying the exact same thing for years).

I wouldn't expect much change in the way of bikes. Fixing the displacement rules would be a good way to start, and could allow more folks to attempt qualifying on traditional sized two strokes. Even then some manufacturers don't want any part of a two stroke in a night show especially if it has a chance of beating one of their own four strokes.

I'm guessing he's been having conversations with everyone from Kevin Windham to Sean Hibbert and Jerry Masterpool about this topic, which is neither new nor will it "blow over in a week" for me, but thanks for the shout-out here.

Not sure what he can do about it on his own. Loretta's seems to be the safest track out there for the amateurs so he is obviously aware that you have to make a track as safe as possible. Not sure what if anything can be done about the bikes when it is the manufacturers that seem to have all the power

Where is that Newmann?
Cut down the trees or reroute the track. Fine if you fall 3' or lower but you are dead if you fly into those tress a little higher. Also please move the stands back a good 20'

I hope this isn't Loretta's or I need to retract my earlier post Smile

Hey DC, hope you read this.

I posted sometime back that the AMA or an independent group, riders or industry, should go inspect tracks and also have guidelines as to what is safe(kinda stupid word for our sport ) and what is over the line.

Some examples ,

Steep jump faces right after fast whoop section where there is no room to gather up a swapping bike and the rider crashes on the
upslope and is stopped to quickly.

Double tables with no room between with the same result as above example.

Track furniture along the track, trees, posts ,banners.

There are more but you get my point.

Not sure how to one would do this but a rider,a seasoned rider like me knows what is bad,

And this guideline "book" would be supplemented and changed as time goes by and injuries/deaths happen on certain obstacles.

And the group should go out to each death site and evaluate what happened, file it away and learn from it.

If to much hell is raised over this and the outside world gets to poking around we may get regulated by folks that know nothing about us and ruin it forever.

Well....there you have another tragedy waiting to happen. You put 40 amped up 8 year olds buzzing wide open and eventually they will get tangled up and nail a tree. I have a chainsaw if anyone wants to borrow it

I have never been to Loretta's but from watching the streams via computer it looks like a great MX track without the SX influence. Do not recall hearing too much bad news coming out of there considering the thousands that participate. But I still don't like those trees, get them away from the track

Agreed on the track at Lorretta's. They do a great job on that. However...

As stated by posters in other threads, he can kick 250f's out of schoolboy 2 etc... creating a system that promotes the jump from an 85 to a 125 to finally a 250f once a certain age/racing history has been achieved is very doable and well within his means. I understand there are classes for 125s now. But there is only minimal pressure for kids to not just skip over the 125 class and go straight to 250f's. DC has publicly stated that a young kid should not be on a 250 2 stroke as it is unsafe (in previous Vital thread last year). 250f's now produce close to the same hp as a 250 2 stroke with a much wider torque spread. Not only is DC a fan of the sport but his livelihood depends on it continuing to flourish. I can't see him ignoring this anymore regardless of idle threats from OEM's.

If OEM's don't build 125s that is on them, not MXSports. Just like Windham, Emig etc have said in the interview. We need to create classes and have the oems build the bikes for the classes, not cater the classes to what the OEM's want to build.

I have seen so many tracks with old mattresses tied to trees flanking the track in high speed sections. Ranks up there with duck and cover for a nuke detonation. 30 years ago I thought it was funny. Now its just sad.

Why would you even wonder that? DC's life has been dirt bike related from the start. Been pretty damn successful at it too. Been pretty damn humble about it all the while as well. Can't hardly think of a single time I have ever seen him when he wasn't scurrying from one task to the next, t-shirt and jeans, picking up rocks, emptying garbage cans.....you name it. I can't think of anyone else that I would rather have doing his job. He gets a lot of shit no doubt, but some of that just comes with the job.

If you can ever catch up to him at the races, you should make an effort to shake his hand and say thanks for all he does. I do.

Stupid shit on a track, like making a turn at the tree with 2000 acres of land available? Well, just showing a photo may be all that's necessary to clear that up next time. He's a smart man.

my 2 cents

I think that DC and team are always looking at safety at LL's. I would also say that per lap ridden, LL's has to be one of the safest tracks out there. They keep it super rough, there are no major jumps (most people bag on the LL track every year for that) and i am amazed ever year how few people get carted off there every year

Are the trees an issue? yes but I would bet that they have some provisions with the ranch that keep them from cutting down the trees. I would also bet we see some changes at the ranch this year

I also think (not 100% sure) that Mr. Masterpoole has given his feedback on the track as well

I am curious if the poster realizes that this photo was shot days before any bike got out there on the track, that's the inside and outside of a long sweeping corner, and before our extended track walk with the AMA's Kip Bigelow, Jerry Masterpool, Marc Peters, Jeff Russell, Jeff Canfield and more -- there was a wall of hay bales around the Red Bull structure as well as these trees. And the Red Bull structure was moved as well. Please add the context to what you're trying to prove here.

I thought trees were for making O2 for us to breathe, making shade to keep us out of the sun, and to define where the turns are. As a sometime enduro and scrambles rider, I resent all this tree bashing. Wink

I raced that track and that tree could have only been a factor in extrordinary circumstances imho. It is great that suddenly everyone is concerned about safety and we really need to keep the discussion rolling but people have to be realistic in their viewpoints or the only injury we will be risking in the future will be carpal tunnel from doing long motos on the flatscreen in our living rooms.

It would scare me worse if it didn't have Thor bags around it. I fully imagine it's had the bark knocked off of it a few times before those bags were implemented.
